Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 73 (Part 2):
The next day, Helmut immediately went out to the bustling city with his butler. He purchased the recommended academy books, textbooks, stationery, and notebooks. He even bought a spare pair of leather gloves and got new boots. He also bought three sets of academy uniforms. As the luggage gradually piled up, the butler remarked, “You can take the other things from the manor. If you find anything lacking, you can buy it later.”
Carrying the heavy load of his belongings, Helmut headed to the academy. Being someone with little property, he could carry everything on his own. Two hefty boxes were piled so high on his hands that they obstructed his view. Helmut managed to climb the stairs while avoiding collisions even without looking. When he reached the end of the third floor and knocked on the door, he heard a rustling sound from inside.
‘Is she in there?’
The door opened, and Alea emerged, looking at him with an amused expression. As he stepped aside, Helmut placed the boxes inside the room.
“Have you decided how to use the room?”
“I have.”
Alea gestured towards the inside of the room. There was a noticeable change compared to yesterday. The floor, which was barely half the size of the room, had a line drawn on it, and on top of it hung long curtains.
“Just to make it clear, that’s a boundary marker, so don’t cross it. Your area is even larger.”
The location of the spare bed where Alea had casually placed her belongings had also changed. It was right below the right window. Next to it were a desk and a chest of drawers. The room was divided into two sections, and the entrance was almost in the middle, with the bathroom on the right.
While Alea might cross over into his territory, Helmut had no reason to go to Alea’s side. Unless he lifted the curtains, Helmut wouldn’t be able to see what Alea was doing. He could hear the sounds, but the room was effectively divided by a soft wall. A reasonable compromise.
Alea warned him as she scanned Helmut up and down as if guarding against him. Her face had become calmer compared to yesterday, but she was still as sharp as a wild beast with an intruder in her territory.
“I’ve cast a magic barrier on that curtain. If you try to cross it, the alarm will go off.”
Because of the entrance, Alea’s area seemed to have shrunk slightly. Anyway, it was fortunate to have found a compromise.
“I’ll cast a noise-canceling spell, but don’t make loud noises late at night. Also, don’t let any smells spread, and use the bathroom cleanly. And absolutely do not bring anyone in. I’m sure my space will pique someone’s interest.”
There was no one to bring in anyway. Or was there? Suddenly, he remembered Sian, who had sneaked in unnoticed and roamed around. Considering Alea’s reaction, it seemed fortunate that she didn’t know about it.
“By the way, if you need anything, call me. Even if I can’t hear, I’ll respond if you call multiple times.”
“Sure.”
After saying everything she needed to, Alea pulled back the curtains and went inside. Helmut roughly organized his belongings. It was the first time he had brought so many things. He didn’t know where to put them, but he roughly imagined Alea’s desk and organized accordingly. Until three days before the start of the semester, he planned to focus on training at Kudrow Mansion.
When he descended the dormitory stairs and reached the first floor, Sian approached and asked, “Hey, Helmut. How did it go? Did you have a good talk with Alea?”
There was something he was curious about regarding Sian, who had appeared like a ghost out of nowhere.
“How did you even know I was coming?”
“Look over there, at the shadows.”
Helmut looked towards the shadows. At first, they seemed like ordinary shadows, but upon closer observation, something faintly wriggled within them.
“Shadow spirit?”
“Yeah, I’ve become a little more attuned to them. Don’t approach. You’ll scare them.”
The darkness within the shadow spirit was so faint that it was barely detectable, like insects crawling. As he stared intently, Sian cleared his throat.
“No, it’s not like I’m watching you or anything. Anyway, how did it go?”
“Alea has separated the room nicely. It seems I’ll be using it as is.”
“Surprisingly smooth transition, huh? Alea seems strangely fond of you. Really weird. Is it because you’re good-looking? Does that guy discriminate based on looks? He’s rude to even talented seniors.”
As Sian stared through Helmut with piercing eyes, Helmut became curious as well.
“Am I ugly?”
Sian asked with a slightly shocked expression.
“No.”
It didn’t seem that way. Helmut believed his sense of aesthetics was average. Since everyone said Alea was beautiful, he felt the same.
“If you just categorize Alea differently, isn’t he like a gem among the upperclassmen? Honestly, if rumors didn’t label you as a commoner, everyone would be trying to befriend you.”
Men liked good-looking men. If you were also skilled and handsome, you could gain power in the Swordsmanship Department. But being a commoner was a major drawback. Helmut muttered that word.
“A different category…”
Strictly speaking, Alea did belong to a different category.
“Well, congratulations on becoming the first roommate of the academy’s celebrity, Alea!”
Sian patted his shoulder with a smile.
“But for a while, I recommend not wandering around too much. Unless you want to go through something like last time.”
“I’ve thought of a way for that.”
In the future, if girls approached him, he could simply blame it on Alea and avoid getting into troublesome situations. It didn’t seem like he was willing to endure awkward situations for the sake of his pride. He had come to understand the saying that it’s better to avoid something dirty.
“If it gets tough, just talk to me. I’ll at least listen to your stories. Well, it doesn’t seem like you’ll have a hard time, though.”
He had heard that the discrimination in the Swordsmanship Department among nobles was at an incredibly high level. But if it was Helmut, he would probably manage quite well.
“Above all, the guy who tamed Alea.”
He had succeeded in a challenge that was incredibly difficult in terms of difficulty. The noble martial arts experts would realize that he wasn’t an easy opponent. Sian smiled inwardly.
“Wouldn’t academy life become more interesting with this guy around?”
A new vitality had been injected into the dull academy life. He looked forward to what lay ahead.
