Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 76 (Part 1):
Helmut’s situation was in stark contrast.
Of course, Helmut was a transfer student with a weak position, while Asuka was a verified skilled student and a current student, but the reactions towards the two were quite different.
Helmut received constant attention, whether it was provocation or not. In contrast, no one paid any attention to Asuka.
No, it seemed like they were afraid to even glance at him. As if they might get caught.
“Because he’s not a crazy dog for nothing. He’s the kind of guy who could turn violent at any moment, so we don’t mess with him. He was no joke last year. Ugh, just hearing about it gave me the creeps.”
“What happened last year?”
“Well, he got into fights regularly. Asuka would take down several opponents by himself as a basic. If there was a fight, the opponents would end up with broken arms and teeth knocked out, completely wrecked.
In the end, he bit off the ear of some noble guy, and blood was dripping from the torn flesh. Those who got beaten up by him withdrew due to the psychological trauma. That’s why there are more transfer spots this year.”
As Helmut listened, he found it quite appealing, this fiery retaliation. It was what Helmut wanted to do right now.
“Even though the other side was the one who drew a sword and attacked first, and the opponent was skilled, they say if the instructor hadn’t intervened, it wouldn’t have ended with just biting off the ear.
Rumor has it that he’s the top student in the swordsmanship department based on practical exams.”
“Is that so?”
Unless Helmut got into a fight worse than Asuka, it seemed challenging to brush off provocations.
Of course, Helmut could do more than that, but Ethan wouldn’t want his protege to become the second crazy dog in the swordsmanship department.
“I know what you’re thinking, but there’ll be a duel soon. Show him what you’ve got then.”
Before, it meant to endure. But Helmut had little patience for this kind of thing.
“Sure.”
Sian, who sensed Helmut’s chilling gaze, didn’t say anything more.
He just felt pity for the swordsmanship department students who had turned Helmut into their enemy.
***
The next day, Helmut picked up his wooden sword and headed to the new instructor Patricia for his first class.
The class location was deserted. Even as class time approached, no one had shown up.
Occasionally, passing students would give him a fleeting glance.
‘Why isn’t anyone coming?’
Lost in his thoughts about something else, Helmut belatedly realized something was amiss.
There might have been some changes he didn’t know about. He had paid close attention to the instructor’s words, but there was nothing he could recall.
‘Should I go look for them?’
As he pondered whether to leave or stay, someone approached him with a familiar face, a fellow second-year student from the swordsmanship department.
“What are you doing here? The class location has changed. Why are you making it difficult by searching around?”
“I haven’t heard anything about that.”
“What are you talking about? We’ve all received notifications from Instructor Patricia…”
As if realizing something, the student blinked. But he wasn’t on Helmut’s side either.
“You probably forgot. Anyway, hurry up.”
Following the student who walked ahead, Helmut’s mood plummeted rapidly.
This was the first time something like this had happened to him. It was not only interesting but also quite exhilarating.
‘Very interesting indeed.’
If you’ve been wronged, you must repay. Suddenly, he wanted to see blood. He had the urge to slaughter everyone in the swordsmanship department, including the person in front of him.
Darkness twisted and impelled Helmut.
‘Yes, that’s a good idea! Kill them all! Slaughter them all, and make sure no one can ignore you!’
Helmut suppressed the urge through his breath.
The guy who had been leading the way turned back and met Helmut’s eyes, feeling a shiver down his spine.
“Eek!”
‘Why is his gaze so eerie?’
Even though he thought he might have seen wrong, the guy who was caught in a strange feeling shut his mouth and guided Helmut to his destination.
“I’ve come to find you. I heard the class location has changed.”
“Good, you’ve arrived.”
A beautiful woman in black leather greeted the students in front of her. She had striking red lips and was known as a witch to the swordsmanship department students.
Instructor Patricia. She tilted her head towards Helmut.
“Helmut, the student recommended by Instructor Ethan, right?”
And the guy who showed tremendous skill in the transfer exam. Helmut had high expectations for him. But having high expectations didn’t mean she would overlook any mistakes.
She placed her hand on her hip and asked sternly.
“Soldier, why didn’t you come to the changed class location? Did you forget?”
“I didn’t receive any notice.”
Patricia immediately understood the meaning of those words. But she asked anyway.
“Did you ever think there was something strange? You didn’t want to check?”
“I did find it strange, but I thought if I waited there, someone would come to get me. I didn’t know how to check.”
Helmut was a transfer student, and he had no friends to inform him. It was a more reasonable response to follow someone when they came to find him, rather than wandering around the correctional facility.
Instructor Patricia raised an eyebrow.
“The messenger, step forward!”
One person stood out from the crowd and respectfully bowed towards the instructor.
“The messenger is Jerome.”
“What happened? Was it a mistake?”
“I definitely delivered the message. I didn’t leave anyone out.”
“But this guy says he didn’t receive it.”
Jerome shrugged unapologetically.
“Maybe he forgot even though he received it.”
“Tell me when and where you delivered it. I need to know if this was an intentional omission.”
Instructor Patricia showed a stern attitude. She understood that because she was a noble, she couldn’t easily get along with commoners or force them to be her friends.
