Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 79 (Part 2):
Kind-hearted Sian stepped forward, partly because he thought it would be fun.
The men who had noticed someone accompanying Asuka approached cautiously but changed their expressions when they got closer.
“What’s this? Kids.”
“Hey, kids. Leave that guy and get lost.”
“We have some business with that guy.”
Facing a group of people, Asuka had put up quite a resistance, and they weren’t in great shape either compared to his condition.
However, Asuka had overexerted himself. Sian asked in a serious tone.
“Who are you guys who attacked Greta Academy students in Baden?”
Asuka muttered beside him.
“That’s not gonna work.”
“Greita Academy students, huh?”
“Are academy students in Baden a big deal? They talk big.”
The men retorted snidely.
“Guess talking won’t get us anywhere.”
Sian nodded his head. Helmut observed them closely.
The atmosphere was familiar. They weren’t without skill, but they were rougher and more unruly than mercenaries. They were low-quality individuals.
There was no way regular mercenaries would take on a mission to attack academy students in an alley.
Helmut had encountered such individuals before.
“Black Hawk?”
The men furrowed their brows, sensing that their cover might be blown.
“What, you know us?”
“Then step back. Our business is with that guy over there.”
Touching three academy students was a potential problem. If they could make the guy they were hired to deal with unable to use his arms or legs, that would be enough.
The opponent was a commoner, and even at the academy, they wouldn’t go after the attacker with a vengeance. They would understand that he got into a scuffle and got a bit hurt.
Black Hawk had ties to noble families and earned money by taking on illegal contracts.
They specialized in secret missions different from those of the mercenary guilds. This was one such contract, and it paid quite well.
They could finish the job in Baden and leave without any issues. Although the resistance from their target was unexpectedly strong, they wouldn’t have the strength to escape anymore.
But just before they could achieve their goal, they encountered an unexpected obstacle.
“That won’t work. I have business with you guys.”
Helmut drew his sword. Until a moment ago, he had been inclined to watch, but his mood had changed.
Black Hawk were active even in Baden. Black Hawk were his enemies. Lately, there hadn’t been much fighting, so he had been a bit restless.
They were opponents he could easily handle.
The sensation of cutting through flesh and bone. The familiar smell of blood rising from deep within the abdomen.
Helmut had lived like a herbivore for a while now. It was a life that didn’t suit him.
Before coming to Baden, it had been more comfortable in the old days, whether he fought demons or humans.
Sian, noticing the unsettling atmosphere around Helmut, whispered to him in confusion.
“Murder is troublesome!”
“Don’t worry; I don’t intend to kill.”
Growing the roots of darkness further would be troublesome, so he had no intention of killing even if he had to cut off a limb.
A sinister gleam passed through Helmut’s eyes as he brandished his sword. The corners of his mouth deepened slightly.
He enjoyed combat. When facing several opponents, it might not be as straightforward as a practice spar, but it wouldn’t be boring either.
“Kid, are you also from the Swordsmanship Department?”
The men laughed. There were five of them in total. However, Asuka had managed to keep up with them to some extent. Helmut gestured with his chin.
“Take him and retreat.”
Sian grabbed Asuka firmly and led him away. It was best for the injured to stay out of it. Considering the situation, he had to intervene as well.
Helmut tapped his sword lightly.
“Come at me.”
And the battle began.
***
“Amazing!”
Sian clapped enthusiastically from behind, his eyes filled with admiration.
“As expected, he’s skilled.”
Asuka muttered in embarrassment. The men who had crossed the line and taunted Helmut rushed at him, cursing and shouting.
They were armed with five swords, but the outcome was overwhelmingly in favor of Helmut.
The men who had stubbornly pursued Asuka fell one by one, helpless, whenever flashes of darkness flickered.
There were sounds of limbs being severed, and legs being cut.
Helmut had made an effort not to cut their throats.
In less than three minutes, the men writhed on the ground like toys. Their appearance, with blood flowing profusely, made it seem difficult for them to escape.
Even if Asuka had been familiar with wielding a sword, it seemed unlikely that he could have taken them down so neatly.
‘Scary kid.’
Sian stuck out his tongue. He knew that Helmut was strong, but seeing it with his own eyes felt different.
It was somewhat intimidating, horrifying, and it made him realize that Helmut had quite a formidable personality.
Although he might have been conceited with such skills, Helmut neither boasted nor belittled anyone.
‘No, he does seem conceited sometimes.’
However, despite his somewhat unsociable nature, Helmut put up with Sian, who followed him around, and treated him relatively well.
If he had originally had an arrogant personality, it would have been impossible for him to get along with Alea as his roommate.
‘Maybe it’s because he’s a commoner.’
Sian didn’t know about Helmut’s experience of establishing an equal relationship with someone like Finn, who was useless except for cooking.
But one thing was certain, Helmut had a ruthless personality towards enemies.
Just as Helmut was about to kick away a man lying on the ground, bleeding profusely, the man’s ribs snapped with a powerful kick. His eyes rolled back in pain.
Helmut glanced at him indifferently and asked, “I wonder if there’s a bounty on these guys?”
Black Hawk was like a criminal organization, right? Since it had come to this, it would be good to earn some pocket money.
Sian stared at him in bewilderment.
“Uh, well? Anyway, since they attacked students from the Greta Academy, I think the soldiers will take care of them.”
“We need to find out who’s behind this.”
