Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 81( Part 2):
The swordsmanship department had a gloomy atmosphere since morning. The individuals who had clashed with Asuka were each summoned and interrogated separately in isolation rooms.
Second-year swordsmanship students sensed that something was amiss in the atmosphere and engaged in conversations with each other.
“What’s going on? What’s happening? Where did they take those guys?”
“They said someone attacked Asuka during the holiday. That’s why they’re being interrogated.”
“Really? Who would be crazy enough to attack Asuka? Is his ears still intact?”
“I heard they didn’t personally attack him but hired someone to do it.”
“So those guys are being interrogated. Their relationship with Asuka wasn’t good, after all.”
“Even if you don’t like Asuka, hiring someone to attack is a bit extreme.”
“It’s a despicable act. Who on earth would do that?”
“One of the guys who were summoned might be involved? Or maybe it’s someone who dropped out last year.”
“Regardless of who did it, it’s a shameful situation.”
“An attack on a Greta Academy swordsmanship department student in Baden. This is unacceptable.”
“Yeah, anyway, he’s one of our department members. Whoever the culprit is, they’ll have to pay.”
Greta Academy was one of the most prestigious institutions. Although it had relatively conservative aspects, it wasn’t necessarily hostile to Asuka.
Asuka was a skilled swordsman. Despite his dirty personality as a commoner, his skills were widely acknowledged.
Some students even had a subtle fondness for his attitude despite his harsh words.
The guys who had grown up as well-mannered nobles, in particular, felt that way.
However, strictly speaking, they considered themselves no different from other commoners, so they knew they couldn’t mix with Asuka.
They didn’t intend to mingle with commoners, but there was a significant difference between treating them with respect and looking down on them.
While attending Greta Academy, they generally leaned toward the former and reduced the latter.
Of course, disdain based on social status and disdain based on personality were different issues.
Anyway, even though Asuka was hated, the atmosphere had changed since he was attacked.
Some of the guys who had silently sympathized with the Sabbat gang’s actions, which disregarded commoners and looked down on them, were beginning to think differently.
It happened to be the moment when Helmut and Asuka returned to the courtyard where the swordsmanship department gathered.
Due to the ongoing investigation, classes were mostly canceled, and the instructors were absent. Someone murmured.
“These guys are usually together, right? Surprising.”
Even though they were classified under the term “commoners,” Helmut and Asuka were as different in appearance as they were in personality.
While Helmut’s personality seemed somewhat modest but composed and diligent, Asuka was like a crazy dog constantly looking for trouble.
Just as the saying goes, “reason and emotion,” it seemed as if the calm Helmut and the emotional Asuka couldn’t possibly get along.
But when the two of them were together, they didn’t appear as awkward as one might expect.
“Helmut, they say he helped Asuka who was being chased?”
“Is that so?”
Several gazes were fixed on the two of them. Asuka, who had been emitting a bad mood since earlier, suddenly rolled his eyes for no apparent reason.
“What are you looking at?”
The gazes quickly shifted away. Helmut stared back at Asuka.
There was not a single day when they didn’t argue. This guy might even die from getting stabbed on the street with a knife.
“Why?”
Helmut also wanted to ask Asuka, who was enthusiastically staring in this direction, ‘why?’
For some reason, Asuka was inexplicably following Helmut around. He had thought it would be fun to tame him, but being followed like this was unexpected.
Whether it was because Helmut had saved him or because Helmut knew he was stronger, the reason remained unclear.
“It’s your freedom to pick fights, but I have no intention of getting involved.”
There was no need for Asuka to join in a fight for no reason.
Being rescued and healed by him was more than enough.
With the role of being his guardian, he couldn’t act recklessly. Getting involved in a commotion with Asuka was poison to him.
“You’re no fun. So, are you aiming to be a model student?”
Helmut responded affirmatively.
“I am aiming to be an honor student.”
He wanted to become the top student in the swordsmanship department. “The best” was always a good word.
His influence also came from having Alea as his roommate, who aimed for excellence.
Even Sian, who was second place, looked down on all the guys below him, excluding himself.
In a sense, it was the personality that discriminated the most.
“What’s this?”
“Your problem, handle it yourself from now on.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. We’re both commoners.”
“Don’t pretend to be close just because we’re both commoners.”
Startled by his own words being thrown back at him, Asuka snorted.
“You’re more timid than I thought. Remember that.”
“Fix your bad habits. Don’t talk to me like that.”
Helmut’s dark eyes flashed as a warning.
It wasn’t because he was a commoner. Asuka’s speech habits were messier than even a mercenary like Finn.
It seemed like every sentence would end with “yo.”
He could tolerate crawling, but this was beyond the tolerance limit.
Asuka muttered.
“Alright, alright. You’re not even an instructor, damn it.”
Such a remark indicated that Asuka was a guy who would go all out, to the point that instructors would raise their eyebrows. It was fortunate that his skills backed him up.
“Why act so arrogant? You don’t even have any friends. It’d be good for you if you stuck with me.”
So, was this an invitation to become friends? Understanding his words, Helmut laid down a condition.
“I’ll see if you actually do it.”
Alea helped with tutoring, and Sian was helpful.
But this guy was useless and weaker than himself. For now, he was just a burden.
He didn’t seem to need friends in his academy life, even if he looked at Alea.
But Asuka, despite his displeased expression, obediently complied.
“What am I supposed to do?”
“That’s something you need to figure out.”
With those words, Helmut gripped his wooden sword and took a position on one side.
Due to this guy’s actions, he had neglected his training yesterday. Today, he had to make up for it, even yesterday’s share.
