Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 83 (Part 1):
Helmut stood up from his seat.
“I’m going to practice now.”
Helmut wanted to practice, quite intensely. Since they had become somewhat quite close, wasn’t it enough to chat while they trained together?
As Helmut was about to leave, Asuka promptly followed him.
“I want to practice too.”
Sian muttered to himself.
‘The dog got a new master.’
he was in no position to say anything. He would soon be summoned by Alea, whatever that promise was.
It probably wouldn’t be easy to be free for a while.
Sian let out a deep sigh.
As Helmut headed towards the training grounds, he was consumed by a strong desire to knock out the chatty Asuka and throw him away.
He turned out to be quite talkative, and unlike Sian, who lived a secluded life, Asuka could easily annoy Helmut.
But Helmut knew it was not the right way to go.
‘Is this what it means to adapt to human life?’
Dealing with someone else was annoying and required patience.
Before entering the academy, his life at Kudrow Mansion had been simple and peaceful.
He could practice swordsmanship to his heart’s content and immerse himself in something enough to be obsessed with it. Helmut only had to make decisions about himself.
He was a methodical and disciplined person. In the Forest of Roots, Darien had set his plans, but Helmut had lived that way for a long time.
When he woke up in the morning, he had a mental image of what he would do. Usually, it was about securing personal training time.
In front of others, he could only do basic exercises, but advanced training or demonstrating Darien’s sword techniques could only be done in his personal space.
Although he hadn’t had the opportunity to spar with Ethan because he was always busy, he wanted to try it properly.
He had never had a one-on-one battle with a powerful swordsman before. There hadn’t been much progress, but the path to mastery was gradual.
‘I made some progress at Kudrow Mansion.’
He had felt the well filling up, but once he started attending the academy, that feeling quickly faded.
Contrary to his plans, he was constantly distracted. Friendships, arguments, and many other things irritated Helmut.
Ignoring them wasn’t an option; he hadn’t come to the academy to live like a hermit. It was challenging to strike the right balance within the boundaries of his goals and objectives.
Even though he didn’t have many friends, if rumors had spread that he was a commoner, life would have been even more complicated.
‘Maybe it’s better this way.’
At that moment, Asuka asked.
“I remembered something.”
“What is it?”
“Do you have any history with those Black Hawk guys? You mentioned something about them back then.”
“Ah, I had a bit of a grudge.”
After killing two second-rank mercenaries, the pursuit had ceased.
But now that the escapees had seen him, they would likely realize that he was in Baden with them.
Was there any need to worry? Helmut was within the confines of the Gretta Academy. They couldn’t touch him there.
Making a fuss about escaping from prison, they would probably find it difficult to operate in Baden for a while.
‘They seem like persistent guys, so they won’t give up easily.’
Asuka is a relatively easy target, but they wouldn’t be able to target Helmut for a while. Especially in Baden.
Asuka chuckled. “A grudge? By the way, you’re a mercenary, right? Do you make a lot of money from that?”
“Quite a bit. It depends on the contract.”
“No, you heard, right? That idiot Erun is demanding medical expenses from me. An annoying brat! I should have crushed his nose.”
“He started the argument first, so it can’t be done like that. Besides, we can’t work during the semester.”
“But it shouldn’t be a problem after the semester ends…”
Asuka kept complaining. As they reached the entrance to the training ground, Helmut finally had the opportunity to shake him off.
“Here’s where we split. I’m going this way.”
“Oh, didn’t you say you were going to use Instructor Ethan’s training ground? Can’t I come with you?”
“No, you can’t.”
Helmut cut him off sharply. Training in the same space with someone else was uncomfortable, and he was the only one permitted to use Instructor Ethan’s training ground.
“It would be nice to spar together. What do you think?”
What Asuka said right now caught Helmut’s attention, he liked the idea somehow.
Sparring. While others seemed to lightly exchange sword blows after school, Helmut had never been given such an opportunity.
Even requesting a sparring match for the sake of training was difficult for someone like Sabbat, since they had separate training grounds.
“They said there would be sparring during the upcoming lessons.”
Helmut barely managed to suppress the urge to nod his head.
“Then let’s do it then.”
With a brief statement, Helmut turned away. It was time to fully devote himself to training.
