Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 86 (Part 1):
Unlike the free-spirited forest of roots, the human world is tight-knit. There are consequences for one’s actions, and Helmut was aware of that.
If you were to ask whether he easily accepted it, well, that was debatable.
In his own office, Instructor Alan, who had seated the two troublemakers, rubbed his temples.
“I don’t know what to do with you two.”
“No need to worry. Opportunities to teach such skilled students don’t come often, ayy!”
Alan let out a sigh after smacking Asuka on the head. He stared at Helmut with a worried look in his eyes.
“Helmut, your situation is different from Asuka’s. Your guardian is Instructor Ethan. You do know that, right?”
“I’m not quite sure. I just had a slightly one-sided sparring match. Within the rules of the duel, I did what I could.”
“That’s right, me too!”
Thunk! Asuka, who was shaking his head, received another blow.
“Why am I the only one getting hit?”
“You stay quiet!”
Even the usually rational Alan found it difficult to deal with Asuka.
Helmut tilted his head and spoke.
“To be honest, I don’t understand why you blame me. Sabbat is weak. He underestimated me in a subject where he was weaker and insulted me. I had to teach him a lesson. It was the only way.”
Shouldn’t they be grateful for the opportunity to learn?
If this weren’t the academy, he might not have had the chance to learn and would have faced death or a situation just as dire.
Helmut didn’t hold back when it came to reaping the consequences. Even if the Seed of darkness became the problem, he would step on it if it crawled up this far.
Alan looked at Helmut with a serious gaze.
He had heard that there were some ethical issues with him. Although he hadn’t caused any problems so far, he turned out to be more sensitive to hierarchy than anyone in the Swordsmanship Department.
“Well, he’s absolutely right. I totally agree! I mean, we had to teach them a lesson, those bastards even hired people to threaten us!”
Excited and adding his input, Asuka fell silent under Instructor Alan’s sharp gaze.
Although he had already covered his head to protect himself, it seemed like that wouldn’t be the end of it.
“There’s no evidence, and even if there were, it wouldn’t be that simple.”
“Is there any progress in chasing down the Black Hawk’s members who fled?”
To Helmut’s question, Alan shook his head.
“No.”
They are skilled at hiding. The Black Hawk’s influence, closely tied to powerful figures from various nations, was formidable.
Even though Grete Academy was impressive, it was not an easy opponent for an academic institution to penetrate deeply.
“The lockers were emptied today! Those guys are definitely up to something!”
“Are you talking about the lockers in the Swordsmanship Department building?”
“Yes. Both Helmut and I found our lockers empty just before class.”
Alan, the instructor, clicked his tongue. Those lockers weren’t easy to open, so if this was true, it meant they were dealing with a serious troublemaker.
“But what will you do if it turns out those guys weren’t responsible?”
“That won’t happen!”
“There’s no way.”
Asuka and Helmut both vehemently denied it. Asuka’s temper was as clear as day, just like the lack of evidence.
However, Alan was firm.
“But even if you’re convinced, there’s no evidence. Just suspicion.”
“There are times when conviction doesn’t need further evidence.”
“And so, you plan to continue beating up anyone you suspect under the guise of sparring? In that case, you have no right to attend this academy. It goes against the spirit of the Swordsmanship Department.”
“Is insulting and provoking commoners, stealing their belongings, and assaulting them part of the Swordsmanship Department’s spirit?”
Helmut wasn’t arguing, he was just questioning because he couldn’t understand.
Asuka, instead of Helmut, eagerly supported him.
“That’s right, that’s right, you’re doing great!”
For Asuka, who had often been scolded by the instructor alone, Helmut was a welcome comrade.
“No, Grete Academy doesn’t allow such behavior.”
“They may not allow it, but it’s happening. Instructor, you can’t do anything about what happens outside your sight.”
Helmut, who had just cut off the conversation, continued.
“It’s about solving problems that the instructor can’t solve, doing it on our own. That’s what it means to be a Swordsmanship Department student. Becoming self-reliant. I didn’t break any rules.”
He had only exploited the gray areas of the rules.
“That’s a dangerous way of thinking. The end doesn’t justify the means. You, as a strong person, simply oppressed the weak. Likewise, if the other party believed themselves to be strong and oppressed you, that would also be an inexcusable mistake. Just because someone is doing something wrong doesn’t mean you respond with another wrong. If beating someone into submission under the guise of sparring becomes prevalent, the academy will turn into a place ruled by the strong.”
“………….”
“You are commoners. Grete Academy does not divide students by their social status. It provides fair education to all. That’s the policy of Grete Academy.
In other words, because you are within this academy, you can stand on the same level as nobles. Nobles can’t oppress commoners here by flaunting their status.
If nobles couldn’t oppress commoners just because they were nobles, it was only natural that strong individuals couldn’t oppress the weak for being strong. Alan, the instructor, was speaking in principle.
“The reason for this is that Grete Academy is a place of learning. It was created with the purpose of nurturing outstanding talent regardless of status or background. You are victims now, but at the same time, you are also perpetrators. You contribute to the deterioration of a healthy academic atmosphere. Do you understand what I mean?”
“Yes.”
“Yes.”
Asuka and Helmut both replied, pretending to agree. It was only natural for the instructor to speak that way from his standpoint. Avoiding trouble was the students’ responsibility.
“I won’t tell you to get along. However, I will prohibit you both from sparring for the time being. You two, who use sparring as a means of violence rather than improving your skills, are not qualified to spar. However, I will allow you to spar with each other.”
