SPLAAAT———!!!!

With a thunderous crash, the Dark Orc’s body froze mid-motion, axe still raised.

“…Huh?”

Gun-woo, who had thought himself dead for sure, timidly lifted his head.

The reason the Dark Orc had stopped moving was obvious.

It no longer had a head to move with.

The monster whose head couldn’t even be scratched unless by a level-30 Hunter had just lost it entirely.

Splat— Splat—

Its blood spurted out sporadically, as if even it couldn’t believe what had just happened.

“W-What… the hell…?”

Gun-woo propped himself up, utterly dumbfounded.

Just then, his subordinates shouted urgently.

“Sergeant! We have to retreat immediately!”

“Orcs are incoming!”

After the Dark Orc fell, orcs began rampaging in anger from all sides.

Many of them charged toward the barricades, but a fair number were coming toward the entry squad.

Ratatat—! Ratatat—!

The support squad fired in haste, but their erratic formation couldn’t hold the orcs back.

However—

Pik— Pik—!

“????”

Somehow, the orcs began dropping one by one.

And this time, there wasn’t even any sound.

One would have blood erupt from its head—dead.

Another. Dead.

Gun-woo, completely out of his mind, was dragged away by his subordinates like a civilian, unable to resist.

The Goblin Bone Rounds were frighteningly effective against orcs.

‘I wanted to finish this using only mana… but the firepower’s gotten too strong.’

Hyun clicked his tongue in mild regret.

The Bone Rounds left physical evidence behind.

He had wanted to avoid leaving any traceable clues.

Still, he’d already used a fair bit of mana to rescue the support squad.

If he was going to stop all the incoming orcs, it would be close.

And with his firepower suddenly spiking, he risked revealing his position.

Hyun smiled faintly as he watched Gun-woo being dragged away, then continued buying time until the support squad retreated safely.

The barricade side should be fine—no way regular orcs could break through that.

Besides, from this angle, he didn’t have good line of sight on that area, and they had their own snipers.

“…This should do it.”

Hyun, having downed about ten orcs in the blink of an eye, left the spot without hesitation.

Luckily, he hadn’t visually confirmed any fatalities.

He stowed the rifle in his inventory and passed the time at a café in the building.

That’s when the Gate completion alert popped up.

「Gate (E) has been closed.
Location: Gaecheon-dong, Seongnae-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Top Contributor ID: ‘One Shot’
Total Participants: 1
Grade: S+」

‘Good.’

Hyun nodded.

Everything had wrapped up flawlessly.

And the S+ rating proved it.

Having his ID marked as Top Contributor did bother him a little.

It was the first time One Shot had formally appeared in the real world.

But he had no regrets.

The fact that no one died was what truly mattered.

Even if those people had once bullied him for no reason.

Soon, another alert followed.

「Top Contributor Reward:
One of your skills has been upgraded in rank.」

Fist clench—!

He couldn’t shout with other people around, so Hyun clenched his fist tight instead.

Skill rank-up.

‘Guess the heavens reward good deeds!’

Good thing he saved Park Gun-woo too!

Technically, it was the system and not the heavens, but still.

Hyun only had one ranked skill:

Soulmate.

「Soulmate (C)
Links 20% of the item’s stats to the bound owner.
Firepower and Range scale with Strength;
Precision and Stability scale with Stamina;
Stealth and Fire Rate scale with Agility.
Applies even when the item is in inventory.」

Everything else was the same.

The sync rate had gone up from 10% to 20%.

Even 10% had been noticeably powerful—20% was on a whole new level.

And as his stats continued to rise, the efficiency would scale exponentially!

While Hyun basked in the rush of power and sharpened senses—

Other people in the café began to cheer one after another.

“The Gate’s closed!”

“Really? Let me see… Wha—?”

“What is it?”

“It… It was One Shot! One Shot was here!!!”

“W-What?!”

But the cheers quickly turned into shock and awe.

On the internet, the news was breaking alongside the Gate closure announcement:

[ Breaking: ID ‘One Shot’ Confirmed as Sole Participant and Top Contributor in Gaecheon-dong Gate! ]

The existence of One Shot was once again spreading like wildfire.

People seemed more thrilled that One Shot had shown up again than they were about being safe.

“…Ahem.”

Listening to all that, One Shot couldn’t help but awkwardly clear his throat.

‘I mean, was it that big a deal?’

All he did was clear an E-rank Gate.

“…The Gate’s already over?”

Meanwhile, as soon as she received the notification, Divine Archer Seo Suyeon had rushed to Gaecheon-dong as fast as possible.

She stood there, internally dumbfounded, as the Special Forces company commander briefed her.

“Yes. I heard Hunter personnel received the alert?”

“Ah, y-yes…”

Of course she had.

Right before she arrived—just barely in time.

A single Hunter had participated and achieved an S+ rank.

Once again, it was One Shot.

She just couldn’t believe it and had asked to confirm.

The company commander was also carefully watching her reaction.

After all, Korea’s #1-ranked Hunter had come in person.

Who could’ve predicted the Gate would close before she even arrived?

It was a relief that Suyeon was known for her good personality.

If it had been another high-ranking Hunter, they might’ve torn the command post apart.

Suyeon mumbled under her breath.

“They said I’d get no leniency if I didn’t show up, so I rushed over…”

But the already-nervous commander took her words seriously and paled.

“P-Pardon? Who said that to Divine Archer-nim?”

Suyeon shook her head.

She figured it was some newbie government worker under pressure from their boss.

Not a big deal, really.

Still, she didn’t have anything left to do here.

The company commander bowed deeply.

“Thank you for coming, Divine Archer-nim.”

“No, I—I didn’t do anything… By the way, One Shot…”

“Ah, we only found out after the notice popped up… We’re very sorry.”

Once again, no one had seen One Shot in person.

According to Gun-woo, the squad leader of the entry team, monsters had simply started dying without warning.

“Still, we were lucky. If not for him, the Dark Orc would’ve caused major casualties—both among the troops and civilians.”

“D-Dark Orc?!”

Suyeon’s eyes went wide.

The mid-boss from the 15th Floor came out of a Gate?

“Then that Dark Orc was…?”

“Yes. One Shot sent it flying with a single blow.”

“Wooow…”

Suyeon couldn’t hide her awe.

Even a Dark Orc—wiped out by One Shot.

Of course, Suyeon could do that too.

Honestly, most Hunters in the 40-Floor range probably could.

Monsters did get slightly weaker outside the Tower.

But One Shot…

‘He’s only cleared what, the 7th Floor? At best, the 10th?’

Official records showed only up to the 7th Floor.

Even if he had secretly cleared the three floors, that only brought him to the 10th.

And in the early floors, every level made a huge difference.

A 10-Floor Hunter casually erasing a Dark Orc in one shot…?

‘Who is this guy, really?’

It was pure admiration.

How could anyone pull that off?

In Suyeon’s heart, the unknown presence of One Shot was steadily growing.

“Is there a problem…?”

The company commander spoke up cautiously when Suyeon stood silently for a while.

She quickly waved her hand.

“Ah, no!”

“Should we escort you, Divine Archer-nim…?”

But before he could finish his sentence, Suyeon was already hurrying out of the command post.

To an average person, it would’ve looked like she vanished in an instant.

“Jeez… I’d heard rumors, but… What just happened?”

Even the commander, who’d merely been observing, felt oddly drained.

As the system’s notice confirmed, a potential catastrophe had been narrowly avoided thanks to One Shot.

Meeting Suyeon was another surreal experience.

He’d only seen her in interviews or on media—but in person, she was…

Definitely kind, especially for someone of such high rank.

‘They say she’s shy—I guess that’s true.’

Maybe she wasn’t just kind—maybe she was something more.

But even she seemed deeply interested in One Shot.

Well, it made sense.

A new rising star threatening the unshakable #1’s position.

Public attention had already shifted squarely to One Shot.

That might’ve made this otherwise minor incident sting a little more.

‘So even Divine Archer-nim is human after all!’

As someone whose job demanded deep interest in Hunters and the Tower, the company commander nodded.

This was definitely one of those rare experiences.
