I Got A Legendary Sniper Rifle - GLSR Chapter 7 (Part 1)
5th Floor.
The floor where the infamous mid-boss, the Goblin Warlord, appears.
But what made this floor different wasn’t only the Goblin Warlord.
‘…A forest, huh.’
Lee Hyun moved by crawling as usual, thinking to himself.
The number of goblins had increased dramatically on the 5th Floor to 25, and they were currently camping.
There were three tents in total.
The largest one clearly belonged to the Warlord, so identifying its location wasn’t difficult.
The real problem was the large forest that spread out directly behind the campsite.
If a Hunter was deemed too strong, the goblins were said to retreat into the forest to fight—a situation that would be troublesome.
Humans unfamiliar with forest terrain would inevitably face a geographical disadvantage.
‘This needs to end in one shot again.’
Even for a sniper like Lee Hyun, the forest trees weren’t exactly welcome obstacles.
Now, there was another reason—besides achieving S+—to end this quickly.
Ssshh— ssshh—
‘Still, these stat effects are better than I thought.’
Meanwhile, Hyun was clearly feeling the benefits of the stat boost from Soulmate.
By the numbers, it was barely a +1, hardly worth noting.
But that alone had made crawling smoother, faster, and quieter.
Even the rustling against the grass and the scuffing of his combat boots made almost no sound.
Stealth seemed to influence Hyun himself, not just the rifle, even without direct investment.
Which made sense—what use was a quiet gun if the person holding it made noise?
At this level, the enemies wouldn’t detect him even if he crawled right up to them.
‘…Okay.’
Hyun reached the spot he had scoped out during simulations.
It was just slightly east of the camp.
The sun was behind Hyun.
Not the highest ground, but from here, he had a clear field of view, and the enemies would be blinded by the sun if they looked his way.
The distance to the camp was about 400 meters.
A standard sniping range for practice drills.
‘Shame I can’t bring binoculars.’
One of the Tower’s few inconveniences: no binoculars.
While it allowed clothes and similar gear, special-function items like binoculars weren’t permitted.
Phones were, of course, strictly banned.
Weirdly enough, once outside the Tower, such items were always found in their original place—untouched.
Still, without them, he’d make do with his scope and eyes.
Hyun scanned the area below.
Some goblins were out of the tents, eating or messing around.
The numbers didn’t match his data—meaning others were still inside the tents.
The Warlord hadn’t shown himself either, which confirmed it.
With no better option, Hyun adjusted his scope to low magnification and began surveilling the camp.
Even after a long time, the Warlord didn’t come out.
‘…Don’t tell me he doesn’t appear unless a Hunter shows themselves?’
Hyun had studied the 5th Floor thoroughly.
When a Hunter approached, the goblin camp would grow noisy, and the Warlord would naturally appear.
But no Hunter had ever waited as long as Hyun did without being spotted.
Still, he didn’t rush.
A sniper lives in two flows of time.
One is the long, drawn-out time—the time spent waiting, breathing slowly, until the target reaches its most vulnerable position.
The other is the instantaneous time—the few seconds during which all variables are controlled to make the shot.
Though the appearance of monsters had blurred the meaning of the former, Hyun was well-trained in waiting.
Wait—and wait some more.
Few things can outlast a sniper in patience.
Hyun smiled quietly.
‘Yeah, let’s see how long you can stay in hiding with that massive body.’
And finally, a huge, armor-clad goblin appeared.
If regular Goblin Warriors wore armor made by hammering scrap metal together,
then the Warlord’s armor gleamed, as if stolen from a human—well-crafted and of high quality.
But Hyun was confident.
With a Firepower stat of 13, his sniper rifle would tear through that tin can like paper.
Ssshh—
The barrel of his rifle moved ever so slightly.
The Warlord’s appearance had drawn a crowd of goblins around him, making it hard to get a clean shot.
He had to wait for him to step away.
The Warlord brushed the goblins aside roughly, annoyed, and began walking.
‘Just a little more.’
Just a few more steps, and the Warlord would be in the exact position Hyun had visualized.
Those few steps would mark the goblin’s final march.
And then—
Suddenly—
“?”
The Warlord stopped.
Why?
‘…Don’t tell me…’
A bad premonition flashed through Hyun’s mind.
Back on the 2nd Floor, a gust of wind had carried his scent to the goblins, giving away his position.
‘But I accounted for that already.’
He had checked—no wind this time.
So there was no way the Warlord sensed him by smell.
Then how?
“!”
The Warlord was looking directly at him.
Their eyes met through Hyun’s scope.
No—maybe the Warlord wasn’t truly seeing him.
But the shock of such a possibility sent a shiver down Hyun’s spine.
A reaction driven purely by instinct—what else could it be?
——!!
The Warlord let out a thunderous roar.
The Goblin Warriors, startled, immediately moved to shield him.
This made sniping impossible.
Sure, Hyun could shoot through a warrior and still hit the Warlord—but what if the shot failed?
Worse than being detected was what the Warlord did next.
The monsters Hyun had seen outside the Tower would mindlessly charge forward once they saw a human.
But this one?
Turned and fled—right into the forest.
Didn’t even look back.
“What kind of freak is that?”
Clicking his tongue, Hyun tracked him with his eyes and then his scope.
Even if he tried to hide, that massive body couldn’t be fully concealed unless he went deep into the woods.
And sure enough—behind a thick tree trunk, Hyun spotted the glint of his armor.
‘Fine. I admit it.’
The Warlord had higher intelligence than the average monster.
But so what?
No matter how thick that tree trunk was, it still offered less protection than a Goblin Warrior.
And standing so close behind it meant the bullet would likely pierce both.
Hyun decided to finish the 5th Floor before the rest of the goblins approached.
With practiced ease, he placed his finger—already resting on the mana injector—onto the trigger.
And then—
‘What the—!’
Through the scope, Hyun saw something terrifying.
He’d assumed the Warlord was just hiding to avoid long-range attacks.
But no.
Fwshhh—!
The Warlord had initiated a sniper duel.
Peeking out from behind the tree, the Warlord threw a javelin—a massive one strapped to his back.
The weapon hurtled toward Hyun with terrifying speed.
You’d never believe it was thrown by hand.
Or that something not a gun could cover 400 meters.
Could he dodge it?
Hyun’s instincts screamed:
No time to think—MOVE!
“Tch!”
Cradling the rifle, Hyun rolled sideways.
There was no time to think about his sniping point.
Survival came first.
After rolling twice—
BOOM—!
