- M.L.E Chapter 68: Peaceful Feeling (Part 1)
The term ‘Vanguard’ refers to a knight armed with Force equipment. Force equipment refers to armaments that convert a knight’s aura into emitted energy, and it usually consists of a Force Sword and Force Armor set.
The Force Sword utilizes emitted energy for offensive purposes, while the Force Armor employs emitted energy for defensive purposes. The maximum emission range of the Force Sword is 1.2m, and its power is comparable to the 6th-circle attack spell, Laser Cannon.
The Force Armor is known to have defense equivalent to the 6th circle, but due to the inherent magical defense effects of Force, it is challenging to classify it as standard 6th-circle level, and it is evaluated at around an advanced 7th-circle level.
There is one constraint with Force equipment: no matter how much aura is poured into it, it can only output a predetermined amount. Regardless of being an Aura Master, Aura Expert, or Aura User, the power of the emitted force remains the same.
However, this doesn’t mean that the combat abilities of a Vanguard with an Aura Master and an Aura User are identical. When applying the Aura Blade to the Force Sword and emitting force, the two energies combine to create a more potent strike.
“A kind of Aura Force, perhaps?”
Although the mixed force and Aura Blade discharge rapidly beyond 30m, leaving only standard force, within that range, it exerts a power comparable to a 7th-circle grand spell, completed through an extended casting.
An Aura Master Vanguard is a presence that releases such attacks without the need for casting. Hence, my confident actions might appear reckless to experts and the cast.
“Wouldn’t it be better to release the force equipment and compete? Knights are practically covered in magical gear, and it’s no different for mages to fight bare-handed.”
The national MC, Viscount Jimmy, inquired if I was really okay with it. Although it was our plan, he expressed concern that if I deviated from the script and ended up losing, it would be difficult to shield myself from the embarrassment.
“Well, I don’t mind. If the Marquis wishes, I can face you with conventional armament.”
To Viscount Jimmy’s inquiry, Count Felix already showed a reaction as if he’d be lenient, as if he had already won. I smirked and extended my hand.
“Should I lose to a rookie Aura Master?”
“Well, aren’t you a rookie mage too?”
“Are I and Count Felix the same?”
“Arrogance that ignites enthusiasm. Very well.”
With that, Count Felix and I moved to the center of the arena. The audience erupted with excitement, and attention poured in from the spectators.
“Kyaaaa! Lord Adrian!”
Among them, the most remarkable were the fans cheering and calling my name. I waved to them, displaying a relaxed demeanor. Shortly after, the tactical commander from the Jordy Defense Force, who was invited as a judge among the experts, approached.
“I pondered a lot about the sparring format. Considering the typical battlefield conditions, we should deploy space interference magic, but I questioned whether it’s necessary to restrict a mage in a sparring match.”
Knights are enhanced with Vanguard equipment, and limiting mages with spatial magic interference would nerf their combat capabilities. From a conventional standpoint, it might seem unfair.
However, considering it from a battlefield perspective, one must accept all these conditions. In a war zone, there’s no room for accommodating a mage’s considerations.
Ultimately, the sparring match isn’t intended to mimic real combat.
“So, for the first round, we’ll fight with the option of using teleportation magic. If lord Lawrence wins there, then we’ll proceed with spatial interference magic, just like a regular battlefield.”
In their own way, they were considering my well-being.
Felix showed no sign of displeasure at this policy and chuckled without any ill feelings.
“Well, there won’t be a need to go to the second round anyway.”
Overconfident, this one.
Well, he might be an Aura Master, and I understand self-confidence in one’s strength, but he seemed unaware of how significant the usability of Blink (short-range teleportation) magic is for a mage.
Unless knights these days have experiences with Blink like the knights of the past, it’s unlikely.
“Let’s start.”
“Are you both ready?”
“Yes.”
“Indeed.”
“All right. Then, I’ll start the countdown.”
The judge quickly left the arena and headed for the safety zone.
And as the countdown began, time started decreasing, based on 30 seconds.
“Adrian is fighting!”
“Brother, win!”
For the first 10 seconds, the audience loudly cheered and supported us.
But it was brief. Still, everyone gradually became aware, and as half of the 15 seconds passed, the arena fell silent, as a graveyard.
With 10 seconds remaining, Count Felix wore the Vanguard equipment.
Twisting my neck and stretching, I took out the magic staff from the void when there were 5 seconds left.

As soon as the countdown reached 0, signaling the beginning of the duel.
– Thud!
The fact that mages are weak in close combat is a well-known story.
Is that why?
Count Felix, with an ecstatic expression, lunged toward me the moment it started.
An incredible speed, akin to a predator.
“Die!”
“It’s a duel. You’re not supposed to kill.”
But no matter how fast he was, he couldn’t be faster than teleportation.
Using the short-range teleportation Blink of the 5th circle, which doesn’t require casting, the scenery changed instantly, and Felix appeared beneath my feet.
I casually used a 5th circle Explosion spell.
– Roar!
It was a spell aimed at the head of Count Felix, but it couldn’t penetrate the defense of the Force Armor, as expected.
However, not landing a critical hit didn’t mean there was no impact.
The explosive 5th circle spell at almost point-blank range was different from a typical 5th circle spell.
“Kuk!”
– Splat!
As Felix, with his head seemingly snapped back as if hit by a punch, excitedly swung his Force Sword.
The terrifyingly destructive Aura Blade, combined with the physical abilities of an Aura Master, swung almost like bullets with incredible speed.
‘If you wait to look around and then attack, it’s too late. You fool.’
However, knowing that the enemy would attack, there’s no obligation to wait quietly.
I had already shifted positions with Blink right after the attack, and Count Felix’s attack cut through empty air.
– Roar!
And once again, towards the exposed back of Felix, I used Explosion.
I continued the same action until Felix changed his response.
“Cowardly, dodging around!”
“If that’s the case, without the Force Armor, the count would have died several times by now.”
“Don’t make me laugh!”
Blink, Explosion, Blink, Explosion.
With the 5th circle magic that doesn’t require casting unfolding with just a flicker, the prejudice that mages are slow did not hold true.
Count Felix, bewildered by the speed even hard to capture on camera, attempted a counterattack with a grumble, but it was all in vain as nothing reached me.
He lacked practical experience in real battles with mages.
So, he was caught off guard by the terror of Blink.
– Splat!
But it seemed not entirely bad for him, as his attack pattern changed after about a dozen repetitions of such actions.
Rather than chasing with his eyes, he began to trace the path of magic with the senses of an Aura Master.
Still, was he really an Aura Master?
‘Laser Cannon.’
However, as someone not known for having a good personality, I played with him to my heart’s content. When Count Felix tried to adapt to the battle,
I immediately appeared behind him and used the 6th circle magic, Laser Cannon, which I had never used before.
Magic loses its power as the distance from the caster increases.
However, if magic detonates at almost zero distance, it creates a more powerful blow than generally known.
– Quaaaang!
Typically, with a regular Vanguard, the head would be blown away at this point, but the Aura Master’s enhanced Force Armor protected the user even from this trauma.
“Mm.”
However, it didn’t completely cover the shock, as shown earlier.
If the Explosion of the 5th circle delivered an impact like a punch, the Laser Cannon of the 6th circle brought an impact on the level of a car accident.
