The Lord Who Levels Up by Devouring - LLD Chapter 101: Revival (2) (Part 1)
On one side of the vast snowy plains, a mountain of boxes was neatly stacked.
They were piled up as far as the eye could see, seemingly without end.
It was hard to believe so many had been transported here, yet in front of the boxes, soldiers from the House of Whitewolf stood in an orderly line.
Eventually, the boxes were opened, and shining items were revealed.
Thick blankets and sturdy leather boots.
Cold-resistant clothing made of waterproof fabric, and leather armor, among other things.
The recruits’ eyes sparkled as they eyed the supplies.
“Whoa…! Those boots look really warm.”
“Forget the boots—look at those coats. If I had one of those, I wouldn’t have to worry about freezing to death.”
And that wasn’t all.
Neatly arranged bread and fresh meat.
Bottles of warm water.
Other simple provisions like dried jerky.
These were foods they couldn’t even dream of having back in Baoless—.
“All troops, line up! Step forward one by one to receive your share!”
A sudden shout came from one of the House of Whitewolf’s soldiers.
The recruits widened their eyes in disbelief.
“…Huh?”
“What did you just say…?”
“I said come up one by one and take your share.”
Their eyes blinked in confusion.
“You’re really giving this to us…?”
“Get moving. Unless you want Lord Adrian to say something.”
“R-Roger!”
One of the recruits, trembling, stepped forward.
He approached the supply box and reached out to gather the items.
“Next!”
At the call of the Whitewolf soldier, more recruits came forward.
Thus, the supply distribution proceeded smoothly.
Meanwhile, Adrian sat to the side, like a supervisor, with a table unfolded before him.
Each time a recruit received their supplies, Adrian glanced at them and jotted something down on a piece of parchment.
When someone looked older, or had a particularly gentle expression, or appeared to have physical discomfort—
Adrian would respond accordingly.
“You there, step aside to that area.”
He separated and sorted them.
“Leopold. I’m talking to you.”
Adrian even remembered their names.
Amazingly, he knew the names of every single recruit.
Regardless, most of them simply did as instructed, unsure of the reason.
But there’s always someone who can’t contain their curiosity.
“Um… why are we being separated like this…?”
One of the recruits asked boldly.
Yet perhaps because Adrian was so intimidating, the soldier gulped.
Not just that soldier—everyone trembled.
It seemed all the recruits had a kind of ‘engraved fear’ toward Adrian.
Fortunately (?), Adrian didn’t scold the brave recruit.
Without even lifting his eyes from the parchment, he replied,
“You’re the military cooks.”
Military Cooks.
Soldiers responsible for rations.
In short, they were in charge of food within the unit.
To maintain an army, the most essential element was food distribution.
It wasn’t just about handing out meals.
It required strategic judgment to manage supplies, distribute rations, minimize loss during transport, and more.
In that sense, the military cooks were the army’s lifeline.
An absolutely vital role.
But with 2,132 recruits—
There weren’t enough human resources in the County alone to supply military cooks on this scale.
Adrian lifted his crimson eyes from the parchment.
“What are you doing? Get moving already.”
“Y-Yes, sir…!”
The trembling recruit shouldered his supplies and hurried away.
Distributing the supplies took a considerable amount of time.
Adrian eventually returned to the barracks, saying he had something to attend to.
Afterward, Kai finished the rest of the distribution and headed toward Adrian’s tent.
“All recruits have received their supplies.”
“Good work.”
Adrian responded without even looking at Kai.
For some reason, Adrian had his eyes tightly shut.
A mountain of parchments was stacked atop the desk in the tent—
The very same ones Adrian had been writing on earlier.
“What’s all this?”
“…Hm? Oh, I restructured the County’s military administration system.”
“You did it yourself, Lord Adrian?”
“Who else?”
Adrian answered as if it were obvious, and Kai fell silent.
To be honest, he found it hard to trust.
Of course, Adrian was no longer the same delinquent.
But that didn’t mean he had proven himself as a capable lord.
More importantly, military administration was a separate matter entirely.
It dealt with unit organization, chains of command, personnel, facility maintenance, training, and so on.
It was entirely different from territory administration.
One couldn’t meddle in military systems without knowing how they worked.
That’s why military and territorial administrations were operated independently.
Until now, the County’s military system hadn’t been managed by Serapia, but by Kai himself.
Kai picked up one of the parchments from the pile.
It was filled with detailed unit organization plans.
And—
====
[Infantry] – 1,521
[Archers] – 315
[Scouts] – 56
[Medics] – 22
[Military Cooks] – 218
…It was perfect.
Not a single flaw.
“The—this is…?”
The more he read, the more convinced he became.
The distribution accounted for each recruit’s unique traits.
The command structure meshed like clockwork.
There was not a single point to criticize.
On the contrary, Kai knew he couldn’t do this himself.
As the chief knight of the House of Whitewolf, Kai had led roughly 600 troops.
But to perfectly organize a force nearly four times that size?
He wasn’t confident.
Adrian, holding his forehead, now looked like he had a headache.
If he really had done all this alone, a headache would be the least of it.
“The recruits will be organized separately from the Whitewolf soldiers. Kai, finish the training you’ve been doing. After that, use these documents to organize the new unit.”
Once he set the parchment down, Adrian continued.
“Each unit will have a knight-class instructor from the County as its commander. But for the infantry, Kai—you’ll take direct command.”
“…Understood.”
Kai could only nod.
“And for each unit, I assigned sergeant-level officers from those who previously served as unit leaders.”
“By sergeant-level, you mean…?”
“The equivalent of a centurion. From now on, they’ll be called Sergeants.”
“Confirmed.”
“If needed, you can reassign the sergeants as you see fit.”
“Understood.”
Kai gave a sharp nod.
Adrian lowered the hand pressing his forehead.
