- LLD Chapter 59: I Object to This Marriage! (2) (Part 1)
Altheron had already closed the distance to Kai.
With a sneer full of malice, Altheron smirked.
“Didn’t I say our family’s elixirs could heal your master?”
Elixir.
The darling of alchemy, this miracle drug produced various effects depending on its type—ranging from breaking through physical and mental limits to healing even fatal wounds and diseases in an instant.
A rare and revered panacea, it was often called a cure-all.
However—
“We haven’t confirmed whether it can heal Lady Serapia.”
Even if it was an elixir, they couldn’t be sure it could treat Serapia’s condition.
There were simply too many kinds, with vastly differing effects.
“So, you’re just going to let your master die?”
Altheron continued mockingly.
“I mean, my wife—”
Clang!
A sharp metallic ring rang out.
Kai’s sword was already drawn, now pointed directly at Altheron’s throat.
“If you say that word one more time, I won’t stand for it.”
Kai’s voice dripped with killing intent.
But Altheron didn’t back down.
“What’s wrong with calling my wife what she is?”
“I said I won’t let it slide—”
“Serapia already agreed to the marriage proposal.”
Kai’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“What… what do you mean?”
“Exactly what I said. She accepted the proposal last time.”
Kai instinctively turned to Bernard.
But Bernard looked just as shocked—clearly hearing this for the first time.
Which meant Altheron was lying.
“That’s just a lie—”
“Here’s the marriage contract.”
Altheron pulled out a neatly folded paper.
“A… marriage contract?”
“Read it.”
Kai took the paper reflexively and read through it.
“This…!”
It confirmed everything Altheron said.
It stated, word for word, a promise of marriage between Altheron and Serapia.
Kai wanted to believe it was forged, but the seal at the bottom…
It was unmistakably Serapia’s.
“As you can see, Serapia is my fiancée.”
Altheron snatched the paper back from Kai.
“So fulfill your knightly duty. Don’t talk back to your master.”
He gently pushed Kai’s sword aside.
Then, arrogantly tapped Kai’s chest with his index finger.
“You’ll be my knight soon enough. Even the dumbest mutt should know who their master is.”
Altheron’s eyes brimmed with greed as he stared at Kai.
His crooked smile oozed mockery and cruelty.
But—
Kai couldn’t do anything.
His fists clenched so tightly, they seemed about to shatter.
…It was agonizing.
This feeling of helplessness was unbearable.
He seethed in despair and fury at his own uselessness—when suddenly—
“What the hell is going on here?”
A voice pierced Kai’s ears.
In front of Serapia’s room, people were gathered.
Kai stood there with clenched fists, brimming with frustration.
Bernard looked like his world had ended.
And then, a smug-looking punk Kai had never seen before.
“What the hell is going on here?”
Seriously, what kind of mess was this?
As I approached, the punk was the first to speak.
“And who the hell are you?”
“I should be asking you. I’ve never seen you around the County.”
“You little—do you even know who I am—?!”
“Would I be asking if I did?”
The punk gritted his teeth.
“I’m Altheron de Benneron, eldest son of Viscount Benneron!”
“…So it’s you.”
The bastard who kept showing up in the County, acting like he was Ian.
The root of this whole mess.
“You’re the guy trying to marry Serapia, huh?”
“Guy?! What the hell—you dare call a noble ‘guy’?! Who even are you—”
“I’m Serapia’s older brother.”
In other words, I’m your future brother-in-law.
And the firstborn son of the House of Whitewolf—higher in rank than you.
“…What?”
Altheron’s face went blank.
He couldn’t believe it, probably because I looked nothing like Serapia.
Well, of course—we’re not blood-related.
But even so, family is family.
“So let me be clear—this marriage isn’t happening.”
As her family, I had every right to speak up.
Especially now, with Father gone.
Of course, I wasn’t planning on playing the big brother role.
Who Serapia married was none of my business.
But—
“The awakening of the Monarch of Frost must not happen.”
That was the one thing I couldn’t allow.
Even if Serapia loved Altheron, this marriage couldn’t go through.
Altheron hesitated at the word “brother.”
His tone softened slightly.
“You object all you want, Serapia already agreed to the contract.”
Still a jackass, though.
“Contract?”
Altheron handed me the paper.
It was like a formal agreement—terms of marriage in exchange for compensation.
As I read through it—
Rip!
I tore it up.
“Wh-what are you doing?!”
“Bullshit has its limits.”
“…What did you say?”
“Did you really think I’d fall for this forged crap?”
True, the seal at the end was real.
It matched the one Serapia gave me before.
So it was a real contract.
But I knew it was forged.
If she’d agreed to the marriage, a quest should’ve triggered immediately.
Since it didn’t, that meant Serapia never stamped it herself.
My guess?
“You stole Serapia’s seal and used it yourself, didn’t you?”
Altheron flinched hard.
Bullseye.
Kai’s eyes filled with hatred and rage.
He looked ready to kill Altheron right there, noble or not.
Altheron, trembling with fear, clearly didn’t believe Kai would go that far.
But here’s the thing—
Kai wasn’t just a loyal knight.
He was a lunatic willing to make anyone an enemy if it meant protecting Serapia.
Crack…!
Even so, he held himself back with terrifying willpower.
