The Master of Language - T.M.L Chapter 14 (Part 1):
I had moved fire many times before.
But until now, it had never grown larger.
What could have happened?
“Well done!”
When I turned to look at Master Abana, she was already holding a staff in her right hand and a magic book in her left. She quickly read a spell from the book, then pointed her staff at the red-haired mage.
A green light flickered within the purple, then shot towards the red-haired mage. More precisely, towards the ground at her feet. Where the green light touched, something like thorny vines burst up from the earth and bound the red-haired mage’s legs.
Whoosh!
The flames enveloping the red-haired mage’s face lost their fire from the center outwards. A pale, delicate hand was grasping the spark that had been producing the flames.
The red-haired mage looked down at the spark she was holding with a now even cleaner face and muttered:
“Oh? This is Master’s spark. But it’s even better than mine?”
Her silk-like golden eyebrows twitched.
She moved her large eyes to glare at me. Her pupils were also shining brightly with a golden color.
Golden eyes.
I spoke quickly:
“The psychokinesis is cut off!”
“She seized control. If there’s a significant difference in skill level, it’s inevitable. For now, get inside the castle.”
“But the house is…”
“It’s fine. Only the outside is burning.”
Master Abana raised her staff again. Once more, green light rose from within the purple and spread out widely in a fan shape.
When the green light encompassed the entire clearing including the cabin, the wood making up the cabin regained its vitality, then suddenly shook itself.
Surprisingly, all the fires burning inside were flung out in all directions. This caused fires to start in the forest surrounding the clearing, but the wood forming the cabin was lush and green.
Thankfully.
Psyche is safe.
“A plant that absorbs magic power? I’ve never seen that kind of magic before. But the compatibility isn’t good.”
The red-haired mage coldly declared, then brought the tip of her staff to her feet. Yellow flames rose from that spot, reducing the plants binding her feet to ashes.
It seemed the red-haired mage’s spark was at the tip of that staff.
“I’ll handle that mage while you go inside. Hurry! It’s dangerous out here.”
I came to my senses at those words.
As I was about to move, I saw Master preparing another spell behind me.
It seems she’s trying to buy me time to escape.
But during that time, Master will be in just as much danger.
“Don’t be surprised. I’ll carry you.”
“What?”
I swiftly lifted her up in both arms.
As expected, she was light.
“That mage seems to be casting a spell, Master.”
Abana was momentarily flustered, but soon set her face and began reading a spell from her magic book.
At that moment, a flame burning with sunset and ash colors rose up behind the red-haired mage. Soon the sunset colors gathered to form the shape of a bird, while the ash colors formed its beak and talons. When its form was complete, there was a bang and the surrounding trees were engulfed in flames.
Fire magic certainly is impressively flashy.
As I stepped across the boundary and entered, Master Abana on my shoulder stopped reading her spell and raised her staff high.
At that moment, blue light rose from within the purple, the cabin door flew open, and a great stream of water gushed out from inside. That water stream went straight for the red-haired mage and the flame bird she had summoned, completely drenching them.
Swoosh!
The water stream swept over her, then made a large circle to extinguish all the surrounding flames before flowing back into the cabin.
The red-haired mage managed to remain standing despite the water stream, but she was soaked from head to toe.
The flame bird she had summoned had mostly lost its shape and changed into something like a small flame.
The red-haired mage spoke in a trembling voice:
“Th-this isn’t ordinary water?”
Master said as she climbed down from my shoulder:
“Your level may be close to mine, but you lack experience. The castle is a mage’s sanctuary. Just fighting near it gives me an advantage. Now that I’m already inside, you have no chance of defeating me.”
“…”
Master Abana’s declaration sounded like she was announcing victory.
The red-haired mage’s eyes were trembling, and her legs were shaking.
Just then, the spark that had been taken from me flickered slightly.
Somehow, it felt like the spark was calling to me.
I quickly reached out and sent psychic power towards the spark in her grasp. The spark escaped from her hand and flew far off to the other side.
I had reclaimed the control that was taken.
Sudden anger flashed in the red-haired mage’s eyes.
“A mere apprentice! You dare take my fire?”
“You seem to be mistaken, it was originally mine.”
She gritted her teeth and raised her staff high.
Steam rose from her robe, evaporating all the moisture.
At that moment, Master Abana pointed her staff forward and said:
“Drop your staff. If you don’t, I’ll kill your familiar.”
So the flame bird she summoned earlier wasn’t just a simple spell, but her familiar.
Judging by how her expression twisted.
“Go ahead and try!”
