The Master of Language - T.M.L Chapter 5 (Part 1):
I quickly erased Master Abana’s words from my mind.
I didn’t want to waste the warm bath time worrying.
Instead, I recalled the dream I had on the ship a week ago.
Since then, whenever I fell into contemplation, my thoughts inevitably led there.
It’s certainly related to magic, but I can’t remember exactly.
And after that, I saw something strange too.
What I remember is just the red sun and an eye.
Clunk.
The door opened and Master Abana came out of the cabin.
She’s probably the only one I can ask about this.
“Master. I had a strange dream.”
“Huh? You slept already?”
“No. It’s one I had before.”
She tilted her head.
“What was it?”
“I don’t remember exactly, but it felt like giving up everything to gain something. That’s it. Right after that dream, I gained an aptitude for magic. I was ordinary before that.”
She answered as if it wasn’t a big deal.
“A mage’s dreams are not ordinary dreams. It can have the power of foresight. Maybe it means you gave up everything else to gain your magic talent?”
“……”
I can interpret that much myself.
The Master casually answered and showed me the black pants and white shirt she was holding.
“Trousers made of buffalo leather and a top made of white fox fur. The inner parts that rub are finished with silk. Truly, I love you humans. How did you make such things?”
Buffalo leather. White fox fur. Silk. These are top-grade materials only nobles deal with, on par with spices, gunpowder, and textiles imported from the New Continent.
She’s giving me something this good?
“Master, will these fit me since they’re your clothes?”
“That doesn’t matter, just come out and try them on. You’ve bathed enough, right?”
“Alright.”
Master Abana slowly approached, placed the clothes beside the bathtub, and turned around.
The Master was wearing a one-piece dress like Psyche. It seems to be the traditional elven attire.
As I got out of the bathtub, strangely, the water didn’t remain on my body but was sucked back into the tub.
Soon, I put on the clothes she gave me. Of course, they were too big.
“I’m dressed. But as expected, they’re too big.”
“Hmm, it’s fine. We can adjust the size with magic.”
The Master raised her right hand. Suddenly, she was holding a long staff.
A large purple rose was blooming at the end of that staff. Purple light flowed out from it and scattered in the air, following a moving trajectory.
Then the clothes shrunk to fit my body perfectly.
“Ta-da. Better now?”
To give me something this precious.
Looking up at the Master smiling brightly, I couldn’t help but acknowledge.
“Thank you, Master. I’ll truly regard you as my Master now.”
“Hehe. So you thought it was a scam? Now you’re clean enough. Come inside. It’s mealtime, and Psyche has prepared food.”
The Master turned around and walked with light steps.
She almost seemed to be floating.
Seeing her, I understood why she had me change clothes.
Human clothes must be quite heavy for elves.
We entered the cabin.
The elf’s house was distinctly different from humans’. The doors, walls, floor, ceiling, and stairs were all made from a single tree.
It’s as if someone grew a tree into the shape of a cabin.
“A fairly skilled biologist in our clan made this for me.”
Master Abana’s expression was full of pride.
She must have wanted to show off a bit.
But why a biologist?
“Ah, so you build houses with living trees.”
“Elves are forbidden to cut down trees, so we can’t build houses like you humans.”
There was a hint of envy in the Master’s words.
I looked at the Master and asked.
“You seem to like human things a lot. The clothes too.”
“Huh? Ah, we can’t kill animals either, so we can only wear clothes like these.”
Master Abana pushed aside a translucent leaf hanging on one side and entered through it.
I looked around several times.
Considering the structure of the cabin from the outside, there shouldn’t be another space there.
Let’s follow her in for now.
Inside was a vast lake.
It was a huge lake, large enough to fit the entire New Continent Trading Company building we saw earlier.
“This is too much.”
The door I passed through was between the roots of a large banyan tree.
I don’t know what kind of magic this is.
There’s nothing magic can’t do, huh.
I followed the Master and sat in a chair by the lakeside.
Various kinds of fruits were placed on the table. There were also fresh vegetables. Some looked like roots, some like leaves.
There were also things I couldn’t identify, but I guess they’re all edible.
“Eat.”
Suddenly, Psyche’s voice was heard from beside me.
I wonder when she came and sat down.
“Is this what elves eat?”
Psyche ignored my question and picked up a fruit.
Then she bit into it with a crisp sound.
The luscious flesh-colored fruit disappeared into her bright red lips.
No matter how long I waited, there was no answer, so I guess she swallowed my words along with the fruit.
