0.0000001% Demon King - 0DK Chapter 25: Hero Sinclair (4) (Part 2)
“What did you say?”
Irina asked again, overflowing with the hope that she had misheard, but the reply confirmed what she had heard.
“I will take Vain to the holy land.”
“Ah. Yes.”
Irina pressed her forehead. The headache was relentless. She asked, masking her emotions as much as possible.
“Why?”
“Because he is worthy of receiving the will of the god.”
“The will, you say.”
The only will he’d receive would be divine retribution.
She looked at Sinclair with tired eyes.
“Where is he now?”
“Overcome with fatigue, he has fallen asleep.”
Precisely, he had fainted from Sinclair’s strength, but the hero herself was unaware.
“So, I came in his stead. Lord, can you keep silent about the Demon King until I return?”
“That shouldn’t be a problem since it was my suggestion, but…”
Irina trailed off.
“Are you really going to take him to the god’s holy land? The adventurer’s identity isn’t even confirmed.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
Sinclair spoke confidently.
“The Sun God is merciful, and his spirit is pure; the holy land will accept him.”
“We could accept him, but…”
“No. He will go to the holy land.”
“Is that so.”
With no strength left to argue, Irina gave up.
She waved her hand in dismissal.
“He was an adventurer unrelated to us from the start. Let’s proceed as you wish, Lady Sinclair.”
“Hm. Thank you. I will depart today.”
“Understood.”
As Sinclair left the lord’s room, Irina stared blankly at the door through which she had exited, then cradled her head.
“This insane Demon King… what is he doing…!”
A Demon King going to the Sun God’s holy land. It was a story too absurd to even joke about. She vented her frustration in a suppressed voice.
“No. I tried my best to persuade, but how did it end up like this? Why does the outcome involve a Demon King going to the holy land!”
It was over. Everything was over. She had given up. The Demon King would dissolve in the holy land, and she would be executed for collaborating with the Demon King.
“Hehe, hehe.”
Irina laughed like someone who had lost their sanity.
**** ****
Karos thought to himself.
‘Who am I? Where is this place?’
Am I a Demon King? Who am I? Why am I following the hero?
“Hm. Be careful here. The branches are quite tangled and dangerous.”
“Yes, understood.”
Karos responded mechanically, like a puppet. He followed Sinclair, who was clearing away branches and leading the way.
“…No. This can’t be right!’
He suddenly shook his head.
‘I can’t die like this!’
How much hardship had he endured up to this point? He had just established a foundation and seized human power. And now, because of a mad hero, everything was about to end.
‘That cannot happen!’
He awakened his dormant spirit. Karos slapped his face. The sound made Sinclair flinch.
“Vain?”
“Ah. Just gathering my wits. It’s nothing.”
“Hm. If you say so.”
Sinclair, not overly concerned, continued on her way. Karos watched her back with a heavy gaze.
‘I must survive.’
The reason he became a Demon King. For that reason alone, he had to survive at all costs.
‘Sinclair.’
The infamous Slayer of Demon Kings.
She had killed more than a dozen Demon Kings, and combined, their forces would rival the domain of the four Sovereigns. In terms of sheer force, she was undoubtedly the top among heroes.
‘And a devotee of the Sun God.’
To believe in that mad god was an accumulation of evil. Karos bit his lip.
‘I have to escape.’
The holy land is the domain of the god. No matter how well he hid his demonic energy, entering the god’s abode would immediately expose him.
“Hero.”
“Call me Sinclair.”
“What?”
“Just Sinclair is fine. I’m not so grand as to be called a hero, it feels odd.”
“Then… Lady Sinclair.”
“Drop the formalities.”
“Miss Sinclair.”
“…Well, that’s acceptable.”
She seemed slightly displeased but did not correct him further.
“What is it?”
“Why are you taking me with you? I’m grateful, of course, but even for someone like Miss Sinclair, taking an outsider to the holy land must be difficult.”
“Because you are worth that much.”
“Worth, you say.”
He was one of the Demon Kings, so there was worth in executing him. However, Sinclair wasn’t taking him for execution.
“Yes.”
She smiled softly, looking at Karos with dreamy eyes.
“A mere, ordinary adventurer fights for his comrades’ revenge, receives the blessings of the god, and defeats the Demon King. What story could be more beautiful?”
“Is that so.”
Karos scoffed silently, then realized.
‘She’s mad.’
Logical arguments do not work on this hero. Just for the sake of a heroic tale, she intends to bring an outsider into the holy land. Hiding information about the Demon King. For a hero, as a human, and even as a believer, it’s unthinkable.
‘Fanatics are incomprehensible by nature.’
But she was different. It was closer to the madness of a pure human.
