0.0000001% Demon King - 0DK Chapter 40: Crossroads (2) (Part 1)
A pillar of light descends upon the earth. Even the fleeing citizens stop and kneel, overwhelmed by the divinity that begins to crush Sinclair under its weight.
“Ah…”
The divinity she harbored vanishes. Seized as if stolen, it scatters into the sky along the pillar, and the pillar disappears.
“…”
Sinclair stares blankly at her sword.
Her sword, imbued with the divinity of the Sun God, had been a relic in itself.
But now, the divinity within it was gone. The sword was merely an ordinary blade now.
She looked at her hands. The divinity that had resided in her body had vanished without a trace. The watchful eyes that had always been upon her were no longer felt.
“Ha.”
She lifted the corners of her mouth. Emotions began to show on her face.
“Ha ha ha! Hahahaha!”
Her bursting laughter made the Pope flinch involuntarily. He had watched her since she was a baby, but he had never seen her laugh like this.
“Hahahahaha! So it is, my God!”
Pouring out all the emotions welling up inside her, she exclaimed.
“Is this truly Your will!”
For the first time, she felt liberated. Holding the now ordinary sword with a long smile on her lips.
“Then I shall act on my own will!”
Clang, clang, clang!
Her sword drew a line in the air. The sword’s wind dispersed in all directions.
“Come! Ye who believe in a false god!”
The girl who had believed in the Sun God all her life declared.
“I will no longer hesitate! If you wish to kill them, you must defeat me first!”
At her declaration, the soldiers hesitated and stopped in their tracks. The Pope, unable to articulate properly, simply gaped.
“Such, such a thing…”
Sinclair had believed in the Sun God all her life and was raised in the Holy Land. For her to renounce the Sun God was, in essence, to deny her own life. He had thought that despite any rebellion, she would follow his words.
But that was not the case. Sinclair had forsaken the Sun God.
“…Demon King!”
The Pope cried out in a fit of rage!
“Kill the Demon King!”
Everything had crumbled. Not just spilled, but the vessel itself had shattered.
‘But this is not the worst!’
What Sinclair tried to protect were the mercenaries. The Demon King was not her target. So kill the Demon King and somehow manage the aftermath.
“Kill the Demon King!”
“Ah, aaaaaah!”
A priest grabbed a fallen spear and charged at Karos. As he thrust the spear toward Karos’s chest, darkness swooped in.
“Oops.”
Whoooom!
The priest was crushed by the darkness and flung aside. A figure emerged slowly from the formed shadow.
“Hey, Karos.”
Red hair fluttered. A girl who still looked like a child grinned.
“Let’s have a round later?”
*** ***
“Dem, Demon King!”
The priest scrambled up, screaming.
“What are the guards doing! How did the Demon King get here!”
“Do you really think such weaklings could stop me with their so-called ‘divine power’?”
Bathesia taunted. The Pope looked at her incredulously.
Fluttering red hair. Small body. Sharp eyes.
The Pope shouted in denial.
“…Bathesia Concretia!”
“Oh, the Pope? Long time no see?”
Bathesia waved her hand in a friendly manner.
“Last time I saw you was at the Borun battlefield. That’s been four years, hasn’t it?”
“You, why are you here! You’re supposed to be on the battlefield!”
“That’s what I said.”
Bathesia laughed and waved her hand. Karos, released from his chains, massaged his shoulders.
“Ah, stiff all over.”
“Are you hurt?”
“It’s not deep enough to scar. But what about you?”
At Karos’s words, Bathesia snorted.
“Like I would get hurt by those guys?”
As she said, Bathesia’s clothes were slightly disheveled, but no wounds were visible. Even though she had lost her abilities as a Demon King, her own magical power hadn’t gone anywhere.
“So you came all this way. What’s the situation? Don’t tell me you have to fight the Hero too?”
“You’ll see.”
“What should I look at…?”
Bathesia closed her mouth as she felt the gaze on her. She greeted with an awkward face.
“Hello? We meet again.”
“…So it has come to this.”
Sinclair, who had been observing her, muttered as if realizing something.
“So it has.”
Sinclair prepared herself. But she did not charge at
Bathesia. Instead, she gave a wary look to those approaching as if to protect the mercenaries.
“Phew. it’s really something else.”
Bathesia marveled at her non-hostile stance.
“What did you do?”
“Nothing much. But from now on…”
The citizens had all fled, and the dignitaries of various nations had long since evacuated. All that remained were the prince and the old man behind him.
Paladins began to gather at the execution ground. There were certainly over a thousand of them.
“The Hero has betrayed us!”
The Pope screamed furiously.
“Subdue them! Kill the Demon King! Annihilate the traitors!”
The water had been spilled. The vessel had shattered. It couldn’t be refilled.
Then just clear it away.
“Kill them all!”
Erasing all involved would make it as if it never happened. The people of the Holy Land were zealots. They would take his word as truth, so they weren’t an issue. The people of other nations could be dealt with through power and money.
The prince’s reaction was a concern, but the Pope had no time to worry about that.
The Pope shouted with a red face.
“Burn them, tear them apart!”
A thousand paladins, none of them weak. Even for Bathesia, escaping alone was an impossible number.
More importantly, this place was the Holy Land. Inside the god’s domain. The spears of the Sun God’s direct paladins began to glint with a golden light, and Sinclair gripped her sword with both hands.
Tension pulled tautly. And Karos gestured casually.
“Hand it over.”
“…”
“Hand it over quickly.”
“Ah.”
Bathesia sighed with an irritated face.
