0.0000001% Demon King - 0DK Chapter 46: The Masterless (2) (Part 1)
Sinclair recalled.
“The previous Great Demon King… was one of the invaders of the surface world.”
He wasn’t an especially powerful Great Demon King. Stronger than a Demon King but a level below the typical Great Demon Kings.
However, the previous Great Demon King had strategic acumen. He plunged the surface world into chaos with all kinds of information and traps, making his power known.
“He suddenly disappeared, and it was said he fell behind in the struggle. But it turns out he was running an information organization.”
“He voluntarily stepped down. Astrea is a monster. It is said that he didn’t want to occupy the position.”
“Astrea…?”
“You don’t know?”
Bathesia frowned.
“He’s been inactive for a long time. I wish he’d cause a stir soon. No, that’s beside the point.”
Bathesia raised her voice in shock.
“How do you know about his information organization!”
It was said that after stepping down, the previous Great Demon King ran an information organization. However, no one could find where it was, to the point it was believed he had died.
“He did it alone as a hobby, so it wasn’t known.”
“That’s why! How do you know about it!”
“I have connections?”
“Connections? That’s not something connections can explain!”
Bathesia screamed. Her voice echoed loudly, causing Karos to frown.
“Quiet down.”
“You…”
“Understand this. I have to go alone, so wait here.”
“W-wait a minute.”
Bathesia hastily grabbed Karos’s hem.
“Um, hey. Can I meet the Great Demon King too?”
She looked up at Karos with eyes like a dreaming girl. With that earnest look, Karos smiled brightly.
“No.”
*** ***
Leaving Bathesia’s angry gaze behind, Karos entered the alley and opened the door of a small building.
Whoosh.
A candle flame suddenly lit up in the dark building.
“Your tastes haven’t changed. Have you made a lot of money?”
Karos spoke to someone sitting on the floor.
“Not much.”
The blind old woman who had knocked on the wall replied indifferently.
“These days, young people are too cold to a wretched old woman. It’s not profitable.”
“If you’re a wretched old woman, then everyone in this world is a wretched old woman.”
“What. I’ve grown old. An old woman is what I am.”
The old woman’s body began to transform. Her face, body, and bones twisted. Karos grimaced.
“That’s always disgusting to see.”
“If you’re jealous, just say so. Isn’t this the ability you need most?”
“I’m not foolish enough to be obsessed with abilities I can’t have.”
When the transformation was complete, a young man with long white hair and a somewhat empty look stood there. He spoke.
“It’s been a while.”
“I’ve come again, Sir Neviros.”
Karos bowed with perfect etiquette, something he didn’t even do to the Great Demon King.
“Yes, dear child.”
Neviros accepted Karos’s greeting.
“I heard rumors, so it seems things are going well.”
“…You know?”
“Who do you think I am?”
Neviros laughed. It was an old laugh that didn’t match his young face. Karos replied.
“A persistent stalker.”
“Ha, listen to this rascal’s manners toward his benefactor.”
Although it was rude to address the former Great Demon King this way, Neviros didn’t mind, as if he was used to it.
“With all the chaos you’ve caused, how could I not know?”
You toppled the Sun God’s cult and brought Bathesia under your control. The rumors were bound to spread.
“Still, thanks to your servant’s efforts, the detailed information hasn’t spread.”
“…Lillis.”
“She’s doing unsolicited work for her master. A commendable child.”
While a Demon King’s reputation is a source of power, Karos has many enemies. Other Demon Kings who found his fame annoying could attack at any moment.
In that sense, what Lillis did was timely. If their location had been revealed, someone would have surely made a move.
Karos joked.
“I’ll have to buy her a box of apples when I get back.”
“It’s unfortunate for her to end up with someone like you.”
“I know.”
“But I think it’s not bad. Despite her past, she can do normal secretary work thanks to you. She wouldn’t have survived as another Demon King’s secretary.”
“…”
She was from the Gastrea family, a prestigious lineage. But Lillis had a twisted depth inside her.
“You must be curious.”
Neviros laughed heartily.
“But what you want to ask is different, right?”
“Damn old man.”
Karos cursed. Neviros spoke in a tone full of amusement.
“As you know, you can ask only one question. Choose. About your servant, or about your future.”
“Tsk.”
Karos clicked his tongue. What to ask was already decided.
“Bathesia was one of the Sovereign.”
She was a Demon King who controlled one-tenth of the surface world. Her every move had the power to be recorded in history.
“What’s happening with her land?”
“That’s your question?”
Neviros’s laughter deepened.
“Are you choosing your servant over your future? That’s not very Demon King-like.”
“Don’t talk nonsense, damn old man.”
Karos replied indifferently to the mocking words.
“She is my servant. Her problem is my problem to solve. I don’t need an old man’s help.”
“If that’s your will, I respect it.”
The conversation paused. Neviros took a breath and then spoke.
“Bathesia’s land, is that your question?”
“Surely you know, Sir Neviro.”
It was an order directly from the Great Demon King. Information about Bathesia’s territory could not be delivered through any means.
Except for one exception.
“I know. And I can tell you.”
Neviros’s expression twisted.
“But child, everything comes with a price.”
At his distorted smile, Karos clicked his tongue.
“Do as you wish, damn old man.”
*** ***
“Ah, damn it.”
Bathesia crouched just outside the alley, holding her head.
“I want to see Sir Neviros too… Damn it. Should I barge in? Should I force my way in?”
She bit her nails anxiously, ready to run at any moment. Sinclair chuckled wryly.
“It’s better not to. He would probably hate it.”
“Damn it. Damn it.”
Bathesia shook her head to dispel her regrets. She knew too. There must be a reason why Karos went alone.
