Embracing Magic - E.M Chapter 10 (Part 2)
The task didn’t end in one day.
Rodin mainly used the math class in the afternoon to write the words.
The current math lessons were content he had already studied in the library. It was so basic that it didn’t even serve as a review for Rodin.
‘Ah, this is hard.’
Reading over 36,000 words was quick, but writing them by hand was quite labor-intensive. His arms and shoulders ached, making it hard to speed up.
Rodin overcame this by using both hands.
He wrote 30 words with his left hand, then another 30 with his right hand. The hand not in use hung down to rest as much as possible.
“You use your left hand too?”
“What are you talking about? Rodin usually eats with his left hand.”
“No, he eats with his right hand. I’m sure I’ve seen him eat with his right hand.”
On the way to dinner after the afternoon class, Cory and Hedler had an unusual argument. They were so close that such arguments wouldn’t hurt their feelings.
“Enough. I use both hands.”
“Huh? You can do that?”
“The hand you use to eat with is your true hand. Which hand do you use?”
“It depends on where I sit. If someone is on my left, I use my right hand, and if someone is on my right, I use my left hand.”
If someone was on the right, eating with the right hand could cause collisions. The same went for the left. So they usually used the hand farthest from the person next to them.
For Rodin, being ambidextrous was just that useful.
It was a bit more convenient, nothing more significant.
“I want to be ambidextrous too.”
“How do you do it?”
“I’m not sure.”
Rodin had never tried hard to become ambidextrous.
It just happened.
Since childhood, he naturally used the appropriate hand for the situation, and it became second nature. If he had to find a reason, it would be his family environment.
His mother was left-handed, so no one criticized him for using his left hand.
“That’s amazing.”
“Have you finished studying?”
“Ah, no.”
“Don’t forget your notebooks even while eating. Got it?”
“Ah! More nagging. Let’s run away.”
“Where are you running to?”
The atmosphere in the dormitory on the third floor was polar opposite.
The rooms that were still trying to study were filled with intense study heat. On the contrary, the rooms that had given up were in complete play mode.
Room 301, where Rodin was, was clearly the former.
Almost no one let go of their notebooks. Even Hedler, who knew most of the words, was studying, finding the ones he didn’t know.
“I’m going.”
“To the library again?”
“Yes, to study hard…”
Boom!
Just then, a loud noise erupted from behind the building. It was so loud that all the children who were resting after their meal flinched.
“What, what is that?”
“Huh?”
“It’s magic! Definitely magic.”
Hedler, who had seen magic many times due to his noble background, identified the source of the noise. Rodin and the others agreed.
“Find it!”
“You take the east side. We’ll search the west side.”
An instructor spread the assistants in all directions. The startled assistants immediately scattered.
“Hey, trainees! Get back to your dorms. Right now!”
“Yes, sir.”
Following the orders, they returned to the dormitory. Rodin had to give up on reading for the day.
“What’s going on?”
“I don’t know. Did someone escape?”
“No way. Such chaos wouldn’t happen just because a trainee escaped.”
The instructors’ expressions were serious. The assistants were also flustered.
“Someone from outside came in. For sure.”
“A magician invaded?”
“No. The magician is one of ours. The noise just now was probably made by one of the instructors.”
Rodin agreed with Hedler.
The loud noise they heard was significant. It wasn’t something a low-circle magician could make.
High-circle magicians were quite valuable resources.
It didn’t make sense for a high-circle magician to be sent to invade a place like this.
“If it’s an outside invasion, it must be from the Ingram Empire?”
“Ingram Empire…”
Rodin didn’t think so.
The Ingram Empire, much stronger than the Riyaz Kingdom, wouldn’t send just a few people to invade a training center. They would either deploy overwhelming force or send spies to secretly gather information.
‘Then it must be another kingdom?’
That seemed most likely.
The Special Forces Training Center seemed to be a secret facility that even the nobles of their own country didn’t fully understand. Naturally, other countries wouldn’t know of its existence either.
If a country had obtained a small hint and sent people to investigate, today’s commotion could be explained.
‘It must be a country weaker than the Riyaz Kingdom. Maybe… the Beros Kingdom?’
Rodin thought this was the most likely.
The Beros Kingdom was much smaller than the Riyaz Kingdom. Its territory and population were only half as large.
‘As expected, even in an alliance, relations aren’t good.’
This was probably why they had to give back most of the land they had painstakingly conquered twenty years ago.
The subtle rivalry and competition among the 13 allied nations must have led to mutual restraint.
‘The upcoming war will likely be the same.’
It was easy to imagine. If they were winning, they would be blinded by greed, causing problems. If they were losing, they would act selfishly, each trying to survive.
‘Sigh, it’s a problem.’
Rodin was in a situation where he had to participate directly in a war with a high probability of defeat. He couldn’t feel good about it.
“Situation resolved! Situation resolved!”
At that moment, the assistants’ voices were heard outside. They seemed to have caught the intruder. About 50 minutes had passed since they heard the loud noise.
“Can I go to the library now?”
“Of course. As usual.”
“Thank you.”
Rodin smiled brightly and ran to the library. Hedler looked at him like he was crazy, but Rodin didn’t care.
* * *
As the commotion subsided, the six members of the committee gathered in one place. It was the top floor of the central building.
Chairman Kreate was the first to sit, followed by the other committee members.
“Is it over?”
“Yes, we dealt with all 16.”
They had learned about the intruders in the Special Forces Training Center around noon. The report came through an assistant, and a search began under the guidance of the instructors.
Originally, the plan was to find them quietly and capture them quietly, but there was a problem at the last moment. One of the intruders used a defensive artifact that tightly sealed the area.
Kser, a 5-circle magician and committee member, was quickly deployed. Knowing it would get noisy, he shattered the artifact’s shield with powerful magic. The loud noise the children heard occurred at that moment.
The remaining intruders scattered in all directions as soon as the artifact was broken.
“Who’s behind this?”
“It seems to be the Beros Kingdom and the Perry Kingdom.”
“Did they talk easily?”
“Yes. They weren’t properly trained agents but mercenaries. They started talking as soon as they saw the torture tools. Oh, and they had communication orbs.”
