Embracing Magic - E.M Chapter 164 (Part 2)
After dinner, their 21-day stay at the inn came to an end. Rodin checked the carriage for the first time in a while and inspected the horses’ condition.
“Let’s go.”
“Yes, sir.”
Just before the castle gates closed, they departed from the Aramia Count’s territory. The carriage quickly reached the Aram River.
“How are we going to cross here?”
“We crossed a river like this before too.”
Rodin was suddenly reminded of Bron’s party. Back when they were in the Western Continent, they had escaped a city and crossed a river.
‘I wonder what happened to the First Group.’
He had already confirmed the raft the First Group had prepared. So, they must have crossed the Ramaton River safely, but there was no way to know what happened after.
“Undine.”
—*Heehee!
Reading Rodin’s intention, Undine created a path through the river. It was the same as when they had crossed the Ramaton River, but this time it was larger and more solid.
Rodin didn’t even need to assist with magic. Undine, drawing from Rodin’s mana, controlled the massive amount of water perfectly.
“Wow!”
“Let’s go.”
“We’ll set off now, young master. Hyah!”
“Hyah!”
When they had crossed the Ramaton River, Bron had to guide the horses. The horses had refused to enter the water, so a rider had been necessary.
But the four horses pulling the carriage now entered the water without hesitation. These were the ones they had swapped for in Oak Tree Village of the Heddens region — they were well-trained.
“If you get tired, just sleep. Don’t force yourself to stay up.”
“Okay, Big Brother Rodin. I’ll study a bit more, then sleep.”
The carriage silently pierced through the darkness. After midnight, Larry and Bianca also fell asleep.
“Young master, aren’t you going to sleep?”
“I’ll sleep a bit later. We’re still going.”
“A magic beast?”
“Yeah. I’ll take care of it quickly and be right back.”
Rodin used the Fly spell to lift himself off the ground and left the road. Five orcs were approaching from the left side of the carriage’s path.
“Silent. Air Drill!”
He blocked the sound from spreading and swiftly took out the five orcs. The orcs screamed as they died, but the sound didn’t reach the carriage.
Returning to the carriage, Rodin sat back in the coachman’s seat.
Karis, who was driving the carriage, glanced back at Rodin.
“There seem to be more magic beasts at night.”
“There’s always a reason why people don’t travel at night.”
Since they’d departed in the evening, this was already the third group of magic beasts. All of them had been goblins or orcs, so taking them down was easy, but dealing with them each time was a bit bothersome.
“Still, I’m glad the weather’s warmed up.”
“Yeah, it was pretty hot today. Seems like summer already.”
By date, it was still spring. Because of the warm weather, flowers had bloomed early, but at times, sudden cold spells still came.
The carriage continued silently. Around 1 a.m., Rodin finally entered the carriage and slept.
*
Morning arrived. The long but uneven road ended, and a vast plain spread out before them.
“Young master, you’re awake?”
“Yeah. Let’s stop over there.”
“Understood.”
They had already arrived at the Kantros Plains. Just a bit further, they would reach the spot where Marquis Richmond had set up his encampment.
“Jito.”
—Kkueng.
Jito returned to his original form and flew into the sky. He leisurely circled the area, enjoying a morning stroll.
Unless something unusual happened, they always sent Jito into the sky at dawn. It was both for light reconnaissance and to give Jito a bit of freedom.
“It really is close.”
“Do you mean Marquis Richmond?”
“Yeah. Just over that slightly elevated area, and you’ll see the camp Marquis Richmond made.”
He had expected it to be nearby, but it was even closer than anticipated. Even a moderately loud noise would carry all the way to Marquis Richmond’s encampment.
“Do you plan to meet Marquis Richmond right away?”
“Wait a sec. Let’s see.”
Through Jito’s eyes, Rodin observed the mountains on both sides of the Kantros Plains.
They had a peculiar shape. They were quite tall but not very wide — like a giant had deliberately heaped up dirt into spiky mounds.
“The distance won’t work. I’ll have to join up with Marquis Richmond after all.”
The distance between the mountain and the camp Marquis Richmond had set up was considerable. If they stayed in the mountains, it would be hard to intervene if Marquis Richmond faced danger.
“I’ll drive the carriage right away.”
“Hold on. Let’s finish our morning routine first, then meet him.”
Keeping Jito airborne, Rodin began his mana training. After completing two cycles inside the carriage, he emerged to see that Larry had just come out as well.
“Brother, you’re awake?”
“Yeah. Let’s exercise.”
“Yes, sir.”
Rodin took his sword and began his exercise, while Larry started his training. Though the morning routines looked the same, their purposes were different.
For Rodin, it was purely to maintain physical health; for Larry, it was to become stronger.
Their hour-long session ended. Around then, Jito finished his flying stroll and returned.
“Big Brother Rodin.”
“Did you sleep well? Was the bed uncomfortable?”
“Yeah, I slept well. But I’m hungry.”
“Alright. Let’s eat first.”
He took food out from the subspace and had breakfast. Since the food had been preserved directly from a high-class inn, the morning meal was satisfying.
After finishing their meal, everyone boarded the carriage. Rodin slowly began driving toward the place where Marquis Richmond was stationed.
