Embracing Magic - E.M Chapter 33 (Part 2)
Keline was indeed a knight who had been active on the battlefield for quite a long time. He had participated in the war with the Ingram Empire and fought numerous battles against beasts crossing from the Talereh Kingdom.
But those were all in the past. The last time he saw an enemy’s blood was 20 years ago. It had been even longer since he saw his own blood.
“Even so, considering your age, we should treat it quickly.”
“With age, blood does seem more precious.”
Elrov handed the potion in his cup to Kelain.
Kelain applied a small amount of the potion to his forearm wound and spread it evenly with his hand.
The wound began to heal visibly as he applied it. The torn flesh reattached, and new tissue grew inside.
After about 10 minutes, the wound healed, leaving only a faint scar. After a few days, the faint scar would naturally disappear.
“The effect is good.”
“Indeed. This is the best potion I’ve used.”
“It’s comparable to the potion made by the Marshal Magic Tower.”
The Marshal Magic Tower was renowned for potion production.
Although their potions were a bit pricey, they were effective and had no defective products.
“The potion from the Marshal Magic Tower was 11 golds, right?”
“Recently, it’s gone up a bit. Due to the war, it’s traded for up to 13 golds.”
The efficacy of the product was confirmed, and the price was roughly estimated. The remaining issue was the cost.
“How much did it cost to make the potion?”
“I’ve written down the cost and production time here.”
Committee Member Kser first examined the potion recipe Rodin handed over. After checking the materials and prices, he smiled brightly.
“It’s under 2,000 gold.”
“Under 2,000 gold? That’s a loss, isn’t it?”
“Ah! This is the price for 10 liters. We can make 400 bottles of potion. Isn’t that right, Number 108?”
“Yes, that’s correct. The 400-bottle production cost is exactly 1,911 gold according to the herb prices given by Committee Member Kser.”
Even if each bottle sold for just 10 gold, that would be 4,000 gold. With a cost of 1,911 gold, the profit would be over 2,000 gold.
“How long does it take to produce?”
“It’s written there. It takes about 30 days if I work 10 hours a day.”
In reality, it took less than 20 days. With more experience, he could finish in less than 10 days.
However, he didn’t bother telling the committee that. He planned to use the remaining time for leisure and reading.
“Can’t you make more? 10 liters seems insufficient.”
“As noted in the recipe, I need to infuse magic for 10 hours a day. I can’t manage more than that.”
“What if we deploy instructors? Can you produce more?”
They seemed desperate to make money. In the end, they were just as materialistic as anyone else.
“The quantity won’t change, but the production time can be shortened. It could be reduced by about 4 to 5 days.”
“Only 4 days? Instructor Serion is a 4th-circle mage! Just 4 days?”
“Due to the qualitative difference in magic, there’s no other way. If Committee Member Elrov or Committee Member Kser assists, the production time could be cut in half…”
“Stop. Enough. We’re busy people.”
Kser interrupted Rodin. Elrov also frowned.
They were willing to occasionally help to shorten the potion production time if it meant gaining extra income. After all, 2,000 gold monthly was a significant income.
However, the recipe stated that they needed to infuse magic for 10 hours a day. They didn’t want to be cooped up in a small place, working hard for a few coins.
“According to your logic, low-circle mages can’t make potions? The magic towers also employ 5th-circle mages for potion making? Does that make sense?”
“It’s explained on the back page. 3rd-circle and 4th-circle mages can also make potions. However, it takes longer, and there is a slight drop in quality.”
Kser flipped to the back page. After confirming the contents, he clicked his tongue.
“It takes a year.”
“That’s too long.”
“Would Instructor Serion do it?”
“I doubt it. He’d probably demand more than half the profits.”
Rodin’s situation was different. He was a trainee and a slave. It was only natural for a slave’s production to belong to the slave’s owner.
But Instructor Serion was a hired mage. If asked to work, he would need to be compensated.
How much should they pay a 4th-circle mage to work 10 hours a day in a confined space?
At least half of the profit was the minimum. Moreover, while making potions, he would inevitably learn the recipe. Would Instructor Serion be satisfied with a modest profit? It was more advantageous for him to go independent and make potions alone.
“How does the Marshal Magic Tower manage their mages? What do they offer to make them produce potions?”
“They have many mages. They don’t need one person to work 10 hours a day. If 10 people share the work, it’s not difficult.”
“Indeed. I didn’t consider the number of mages.”
“Alright, let’s summarize. Number 108, is this all the potion you made?”
“No. I made a total of 10 liters. The rest is in the library, so you can take it anytime.”
At Rodin’s answer, Kser shook the container with the potion. About 800 ml of the red potion swirled and created small waves.
“We can get the rest later. From now on, we’ll provide you with a fixed amount of herbs every month. You will make the potion.”
“Understood.”
“Do you have any requests?”
“I need someone to divide the potion into 25 ml bottles.”
“It doesn’t have to be a mage, right?”
“Yes. It’s simple work, so an assistant or someone hired from a nearby village would do.”
It was simple work to divide 10 liters of potion into 25 ml bottles. With only 400 bottles per month, it would only require one person for one day.
One person would suffice.
“We’ll assign an assistant.”
“Understood.”
Rodin bowed and left.
After Rodin left, the committee members began calculating in earnest.
“Excluding the cost of materials, we’ll earn over 2,000 gold each month.”
“Yes. 24,000 gold a year. That’s great. This is enough to cover the training center’s operating expenses and more.”
“The issue is selling it. We can’t go around selling potions ourselves, can we?”
“Sales… Let’s contact the capital first. The magic corps often get injured, don’t they? Even if we sell it for 9 gold, it’ll fly off the shelves. Potion prices have risen lately, so we can get even more.”
The war between the Ingram Empire and the 13 Nations Alliance was a given. No one thought peace would continue.
With a total of 14 nations preparing for war, the price of war supplies had skyrocketed.
“Will they buy 400 a month?”
“Probably not. There are only about 100 members in the magic corps. We’ll have to sell around 300 elsewhere.”
“We need to find a market. It’s better to find a suitable merchant.”
“I’ll take care of that.”
Advanced knight Habinon stepped forward.
Habinon’s family originally ran a merchant guild. Although the guild had closed due to business failure, connections in the business world remained.
“That’s reassuring. We can trust Habinon.”
“Alright, now the last issue.”
While the sales issue was resolved, the meeting wasn’t over. The most important matter of profit distribution remained.
They didn’t intend to spend the entire 2,000 gold on the training center’s operating expenses. They decided to pocket 300 gold each and use about 500 gold for the training center.
