“Harry, Harry, and dear Miss Slytherin and Miss Weasley, just the people I was hoping to see!” Professor Slughorn boomed genially, twiddling the ends of his walrus mustache and puffing out his enormous belly. “So delighted to see you all — I was hoping to catch you before dinner! What do you say to a spot of supper tonight in my rooms instead? We’re having a little party, just a few rising stars…”

As he spoke, he looked around, directly passing over Ron who was next to Harry, as if he didn’t exist at all.

“Ah, I don’t see Evan or Miss Granger. Does anyone know where they have gone?” he continued. “It would be wonderful if they could join us for tonight’s party too!”

Judging from his expression, he seemed to hope Harry or Elaine would lead him to Evan and Hermione.

“Professor, we don’t know where they are!”

“They’ve been doing this a lot lately, disappearing at any time,” Elaine added, “and they don’t even take me with them!”

Evan and Hermione could both transform into cats. They could go to many places that ordinary people couldn’t go to and do many things that ordinary people couldn’t do.

“Ah, the energy of youth — how nostalgic,” Professor Slughorn said with a knowing smile. “Young couples in love are like that. “He’s got no chance of persuading Snape,” said Harry, the moment Slughorn was out of earshot. “This detention’s already been postponed once; Snape did it for Dumbledore, but he won’t do it for anyone else.”

“Sounds like you’d rather serve detention with Snape than go to the party,” Ron muttered gloomily, still clearly upset about being ignored by Slughorn. “You’ve all turned him down, but I think it’s a rare opportunity…”

“To be honest, I don’t want to go to either of them!” Harry said honestly.

If he had to choose between Slughorn’s party and Snape’s detention, he’d choose the party.

But his reasoning came true, and half an hour later, Snape sent a message to Harry.

He asked him to go to his office on time at eight p.m. for detention, no matter how many party invitations he’d received. Snape also asked Harry to bring protective gloves, because his detention tonight was to sort out rotten Flobberworms from good ones to use in the Potions class.

Potions shops never sold rotten Flobberworms, and it was unknown where Snape got them.

Evan and Hermione also returned very late, around half past eleven p.m.

When they entered the Gryffindor common room, there was no one inside. Evan felt very happy this weekend. He had perfectly avoided Slughorn’s invitation to the party. There was no Elaine or others to disturb him. There were only him and Hermione. In the closed and quiet Room of Requirement, they could do whatever they liked and spend the whole weekend leisurely, doing what they loved. It was a perfect two days…

The two of them hadn’t had this kind of leisure time for a long time since Voldemort’s return.

If possible, Evan hoped to spend next weekend in the same way.
