At first, Lavender had been very annoyed that nobody had thought to tell her that Ron was in the hospital wing.

She only found out the day after it happened, and by then, she had already spent an entire day being angry at Ron for rejecting her.

“I am his girlfriend!”

“I can’t believe none of you told me right away!”

“I really don’t know what you were thinking — don’t you realize Ron especially needs me right now?”

She kept repeating these complaints to Evan, Harry, and Hermione, scolding them for not informing her about Ron’s hospitalization in a timely manner.

But soon, she decided to forgive Evan and the others this lapse of memory, and began to have in-depth chats with them about her relationship with Ron, from the time she paid attention to Ron when she entered school, to their first date, to every quarrel they had, and their first kiss…

To be honest, no one wanted to hear this, and no one cared about how Lavender and Ron kissed.

But the problem now was that Evan, Harry, Hermione and the others had no way to refuse Lavender. After all, the current situation was very delicate. “Is he?” said Harry, surprised, for he had found Ron perfectly alert every time they had been up to the hospital wing, both highly interested in the news of Dumbledore and Snape’s row and the news that Malfoy was the culprit, and keen to abuse McLaggen as much as possible.

Sleeping, that was something that had never happened.

Ron had even said that he was suffering from insomnia because he had been lying down too much recently.

“Yeah, poor Won-Won, he must be so weak, I should get him something to help him recover,” Lavender continued. “Parvati told me I’d better keep a close eye on Ron, because he’s all interesting now…”

“Would you call getting poisoned being interesting?” said Harry, shocked.

“It’s not a good thing, obviously, but you can’t deny it’s kind of cool, right?” Lavender sighed. “Not everyone has the chance to be poisoned. Because of this incident, many girls in the school have started to pay attention to Ron. By the way, when will he wake up?”

Evan and Hermione, listening nearby, exchanged a look. It seemed like there might really be something wrong between Ron and Lavender.

Ron was in good spirits now, having fully recovered from the poisoning, but he pretended to sleep every time Lavender came to visit him, which only meant that he found her annoying and didn’t want to chat with her or maintain a relationship with her.

Maybe Ron had realized that the poisoning incident had made him quite popular with the girls at school, and he was thinking about getting a new girlfriend.

That night during their visit, Hermione brought it up bluntly.

“So what are you planning to do about Lavender? If you don’t want to be with her anymore, then you need to tell her — soon.”

“Yeah … well … it’s not that easy, is it?” Ron paused for a moment and said, “I haven’t really figured it out yet.”

“So what have you figured out?”

“I just think … being on my own isn’t so bad. She’s always talking about stuff like what I think of her robes or her outfits — exhausting,” said Ron uncertainly. “Well, and, you know, sometimes she’s way too forward. She jumps on me and snogs me in front of so many people. It puts a lot of pressure on me.”

“Really?” Evan raised an eyebrow — Ron had seemed to enjoy all that before and had even bragged about it.

There really weren’t many girls at Hogwarts as bold and passionate as Lavender. She’d play-wrestle Ron, kiss him, and hug him in public like it was nothing.

“Yeah!” Ron nodded. “It’s a lot of pressure.”

“I don’t care what you think. If you don’t make a decision soon, we’ll be the ones under pressure. Lavender talks to us about you every single day. I don’t want to hear about how you two snog and exchange saliva with each other anymore,” said Hermione bluntly. “Either continue the relationship or end it — but make up your mind.”

“I know!” said Ron perfunctorily.

“If you can’t do that, then at least don’t pretend to sleep the next time she comes to see you. Otherwise, I’ll expose you.”

“Alright, alright, Hermione. You’ve made your point. I promise I’ll talk to her next time,” said Ron a bit awkwardly, clearly startled by Hermione’s words. He quickly changed the subject, “By the way, Harry, there’s a Quidditch match tomorrow, How’s practice been?”

“Not bad, Ginny and Elaine are in great shape,” Harry replied. “We have a big advantage.”

“What about McLaggen? How’s he doing?” Ron looked at Harry nervously. This was the fourth time he had asked this question this week. He seemed to be more concerned about his position on the Quidditch team than his relationship with Lavender.

“Listen, Ron, I’ve told you,” said Harry patiently, “he could be world-class and I wouldn’t want to keep him. He keeps trying to tell everyone what to do, he thinks he could play every position better than the rest of us. I can’t wait to be shot of him. The Keeper position has always been yours.”

“I knew you were the best. In fact, I can play in the game right now. I’m well now, but Madam Pomfrey told me not to do any strenuous exercise. She even forbade me to watch tomorrow’s game because it would overexcite me,” said Ron. “But I will definitely recover in the next game against Ravenclaw. After this game, you should quickly get rid of that annoying McLaggen, Harry. Good luck. Hope you hammer McLag — I mean Smith.”

In fact, there was no need for Ron to say anything — nor for Harry to take action.

After the next day’s match, McLaggen likely wouldn’t dare set foot on a Quidditch pitch ever again.

Evan had always thought that becoming a Quidditch player depended mainly on skills. McLaggen’s skills and performance stability were better than Ron’s, so he should be able to be the Keeper. However, after the match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, he found that his previous idea was wrong, very wrong.

Character was really more important than raw talent. Compared to McLaggen, Ron was actually more suitable for the Gryffindor team.

How to describe that match? Well, Gryffindor had seen its fair share of tough times over the years. There had been plenty of messy games and disappointing performances in the past. But this match, played during the current school year against Hufflepuff was definitely a disaster among disasters…
