The key point was that it was already suspicious enough for Malfoy to be seen with an unfamiliar girl. Wasn’t his girlfriend Pansy Parkinson? Given his current position, was it really appropriate for him to be interacting so much with younger girls? And to even take one of them to the Room of Requirement — was that really okay?

The more Evan thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong.

Watching Harry and Ron discussing the matter, he could only wish them good luck!

At breakfast the next morning, Harry told them that he and Ron had discussed a plan overnight last night. He planned to try to enter the Room of Requirement in the free time before the Defense Against the Dark Arts class.

Besides that, he and Ron also needed to figure out who the two younger girls around Malfoy were, and hopefully get some of their hair or something similar. That way, they could use Polyjuice Potion to turn into the girls and try to get information out of Malfoy.

Transforming into a girl, the Polyjuice Potion not only changed the appearance, but also included a complete change in the body structure, which was completely different from becoming Goyle and Crabbe.

Evan had transformed into Gabrielle before, so he knew exactly what it felt like and had a say in this.

Anyway, it was very strange and different. It was as if the body was no longer his own. He had completely turned into a girl, but the soul and thoughts inside were still his own.

Before going to bed last night, he had talked about this with Harry and Ron, asking them to think carefully before proceeding with the plan.

Seeing Harry talking so eloquently, he should have been mentally prepared.

“Harry, this is turning into a girl!” Evan interrupted him mid-plan.

“I know. It’s no big deal, right?” said Harry, completely unfazed by the question.

Ron on the side didn’t refute it, and tacitly agreed to this detail. When Harry told him about the plan, his expression was inexplicably tangled with a hint of excitement and embarrassment. It was hard to describe, but it was definitely not opposition. Who knows what he was thinking…

On the other hand, Hermione exaggeratedly expressed that she was not interested in the plan Harry had whispered.

She was against the idea and didn’t want Evan involved, because she believed Harry’s plan wasn’t just pointless, it was outright ridiculous. The most ridiculous part being the use of Polyjuice Potion to become girls…

She couldn’t stop Harry and Ron from doing such a crazy thing, but she could stop Evan from doing it, which was what Evan hoped for.

Harry was a little annoyed by Hermione’s approach, because he thought Evan and Hermione could help a lot if they were willing.

“I suggest you not waste too much time on the Room of Requirement or that crazy plan. If you have this energy, you might as well think about how to persuade Slughorn,” she said, unfolding the newspaper just delivered by the owl. “I think Evan’s method is good. What you two really need to do is get closer to Slughorn, talk to him more, build a rapport, try to win him over.”

“I haven’t forgotten about Slughorn. I was planning to give him that box of Chocolate Frogs,” Harry mumbled under his breath. He didn’t sound confident at all. After all, turning into a girl to get information from Malfoy wasn’t exactly something to be proud of.

Or rather… it had no bottom line at all!

“Hermione, did the Ministry catch anyone again? Anyone we know?” Evan asked, frowning as he looked at the front-page headline.

“Yes!” said Hermione, and her answer instantly drew everyone’s attention. “Not a Death Eater — it’s Mundungus, he’s been arrested and sent to Azkaban! Something to do with impersonating an Inferius during an attempted burglary … and someone called Octavius Pepper has vanished. … Oh, and how horrible, a nine-year-old boy has been arrested for trying to kill his grandparents, they think he was under the Imperius Curse. …”

“Mundungus was arrested?!”

“What’s so surprising about that? He’s always been up to illegal stuff — it was just a matter of time.”

“Let’s hope this doesn’t affect the Order of the Phoenix,” Harry added. He still didn’t know that Mundungus had been stealing from the Black family’s old house.   

Sirius, however, did know — and his response was that if Mundungus needed it, he might as well take that pile of junk away already.

Not every homeowner treated their family property like trash, ready to be thrown out at will. So the fact that Mundungus broke in again and disguised himself as an Inferius made things especially bad — public perception was terrible!

Speaking of which, with all the stuff Mundungus had collected, he should be quite wealthy. At least in his dealings with Evan, he’d made a decent profit. But no one had seen him spend much — where had all the money gone? Did he just stash it all away?

Mundungus’s arrest affected Dumbledore the most — his intelligence network took a hit. Evan was affected too, since getting things like house-elf corpses wouldn’t be so easy anymore.

But in general, no one cared much about Mundungus. What did stir up talk at school was the newspaper’s report on the Inferius.

After breakfast, Harry and Ron eagerly went off with the Invisibility Cloak to carry out their plan, while Evan and Hermione headed to Ancient Runes class with thick textbooks in their arms.

One minute after the second Defense Against the Dark Arts class started, Harry ran into the classroom panting, carrying his schoolbag.

Looking at his appearance, it was clear that he had gained nothing.

“Late again, Potter,” said Snape coldly. “Ten points from Gryffindor.”

Harry scowled at Snape as he flung himself into the seat beside Evan.

Facing Evan and Hermione’s inquiring eyes, he shook his head gently. He and Ron had been struggling on the seventh floor for a long time, and the door had not appeared.

Obviously, unless you knew exactly what you wanted, following Malfoy into the Room of Requirement wouldn’t work.

Snape waved his wand carelessly, so that dozens of scrolls of parchment soared into the air and landed in a neat pile on his desk.

“Very well. It seems you’ve all submitted your essays on how to defend against Dementors,” he said. “I hope for your sakes they are better than the tripe I had to endure on resisting the Imperius Curse. Now, if you will all open your books to page — what is it, Mr. Finnigan?”

“Sir,” said Seamus, “I’ve been wondering, how do you tell the difference between an Inferius and a ghost? Because there was something in the paper about an Inferius —”

“No, there wasn’t,” said Snape in a bored voice. “There are no Inferi.”

“But sir, I heard people talking —”

“If you had actually read the article in question, Mr. Finnigan, you would have known that the so-called Inferius was nothing but a smelly sneak thief by the name of Mundungus Fletcher.”

“Strange, I thought Snape and Mundungus were on the same side,” muttered Harry to Evan and Hermione. “Shouldn’t he be upset Mundungus has been arrest —”

Before anyone could answer, Snape had already noticed.

“But Potter seems to have a lot to say on the subject,” he said, pointing suddenly at the back of the room, his black eyes fixed on Harry. “Let us ask Potter how we would tell the difference between an Inferius and a ghost.”

The whole class looked around at Harry, who instantly recalled the Inferi that filled a whole lake in the cave a few years ago.
