Voldemort combined with an evil god — that kind of fusion, if not handled properly, could easily produce a terrifying synergy where the whole would be greater than the sum of its parts.

Even if the Horcrux only contained fragmented remnants of Voldemort and the evil god, and neither was at full power, it was still terrifying enough.

Just imagine: Voldemort’s cunning and cruelty mixed with the evil god’s ever-shifting, reality-warping mental assaults — what kind of effect would that create?

The evil god lacked understanding of humans and human nature, and he didn’t bother to understand.

The illusions he created stemmed from the deepest fears and thoughts of those he attacked. But because he didn’t understand people, his visions could sometimes feel strangely dissonant.

Unlike the evil god, Voldemort understood human nature very well and knew how to seduce a person step by step until he was controlled or destroyed.

The combination of the two… the scenes and dangers Evan had seen in the Centaur ruins and the Norwegian ruins would reappear, and would even be more terrifying.

And beyond that, he thought of another issue: a Horcrux naturally reinforced the object it was embedded in, making it hard to destroy. And the statue — already the evil god’s anchor to this world — was inherently indestructible. Even the ancient, powerful sorcerers of the past could only seal it away.

In other words, they were facing a Horcrux that could not be destroyed!

An indestructible Horcrux — didn’t that mean Voldemort had already achieved true immortality?

“Sir, have you found a way to destroy the statue?” Evan asked.

“No, all the information we have found so far shows that the statue is indestructible. Not good news, is it? Thinking about it from the side that is unfavorable to us, Voldemort’s Horcrux is very dangerous. It has an offensiveness that other Horcruxes do not have, and it is strong and cannot be destroyed. It is a perfect Horcrux,” Dumbledore paused and continued, “But I believe his choice of the statue as a Horcrux is ill-considered. It is very dangerous to entrust a part of the soul to a thinking thing, especially to a powerful and evil creature. It borders on madness.”

“Madness?”

“Yes. There are many risks. For example, it’s extremely hard for us to destroy the soul fragment from the outside — but from the inside, it might be very easy.”

“You mean… the evil god himself might destroy Voldemort’s soul fragment?” Evan asked.

It was a novel thought. Maybe they wouldn’t need to do anything at all. Maybe Voldemort’s Horcrux would end up self-destructing — consumed by the evil god within the statue.

The more powerful the force, the greater the restrictions on its use, and the greater the price to pay.

If Voldemort truly wanted to borrow the evil god’s power, he had to be prepared to pay the price. But had he really realized this?

“I believe it’s highly possible. That evil creature only allowed Voldemort to use his statue — an object of great importance to him — as a Horcrux, and to borrow his power in that way, because Voldemort can currently be of use to him. Their relationship is one of mutual exploitation. But peaceful coexistence between them won’t last long. That being may very well be plotting to control Voldemort through this connection,” said Dumbledore. “In fact, knowing Voldemort, he is not the kind of person who would willingly submit to control — even if the other’s power surpasses his own. There is bound to be tension between them, and it will only grow. If Voldemort ever fails to meet his demands, he’ll be destroyed. Or, if Voldemort discovers a way to destroy him, he won’t hesitate to do so.”   

According to this analysis, the possibility of the Horcrux exploding by itself was indeed very high, but the timing was uncertain .

No one could predict the evil god’s intentions. Evan suspected that Dumbledore would not wait indefinitely. They didn’t have that much time.

“So you’re saying, sir, we can try to foil Voldemort’s plans and hope that the creature inside the statue loses faith in him or reaches his breaking point and then destroys the soul fragment?” Evan asked. “If that happens, it would be ideal — but won’t it take far too long?”

“Yes, it will. We don’t have enough time to sit back and wait while Voldemort and his Death Eaters wreak havoc on the Wizarding world,” Dumbledore replied. “That’s why we need to shift our thinking. If we can’t destroy the statue from the outside, then we must consider destroying Voldemort’s soul fragment from the inside. If we can’t count on them turning on each other, then we should enter the statue and eliminate the soul fragment ourselves.”

“Enter the statue?!”

What was inside the statue?

Two evil souls and a pile of wood?

And how would one even get inside?

And once inside — how would they destroy Voldemort’s soul?

“We all know that the statue is not an ordinary object. It is a concrete symbol of the evil creature in the real world and a coordinate leading to the realm where he is. If my recent research is correct, the inside of the statue is not made of wood, but a space,” said Dumbledore.

“A space…” Evan thought of things like the Room of Requirement, or the space he’d seen in the swamp ruins, the space where the evil god was.

Then, he thought of his experience of returning to Hogwarts a thousand years ago not long ago. Hufflepuff had borrowed his Book of Abraham, and Ravenclaw had mentioned the concept of space and said that the ancient prophet Abraham was the only human to have visited the realm of the evil god and had described it in the book.

At that level of magic, concepts like space and time were frequently manipulated.

“Yes, a space, a space that exists between our world and the world of that creature, inside the statue,” said Dumbledore again.

“Then sir, how can we get inside?”

“Oh, Salazar Slytherin left us a clue,” said Dumbledore, his expression intent, leaning forward as though this were the most crucial part of the evening. “He mentioned a method for crossing space. It also seems to be connected to the Secret Treasure he left behind.”

“Slytherin left a method to cross space?” said Evan in surprise. “How could he have known we’d encounter this situation?”

Evan was sure that he had only told Slytherin about Voldemort creating multiple Horcruxes. He had never mentioned anything about Voldemort using the evil god statue to make a Horcrux.

In fact, at the time, even Evan hadn’t known about that possibility.

Slytherin did too many mysterious things. First, he’d enchanted the ring to automatically sever a fragment of Voldemort’s soul; then he left behind a horrifying magic that could turn oneself into an evil god, as if hoping Voldemort would become one; and there was also the evil god monster divided into three pieces, and a method to cross space.
