Compared to the downcast Harry, Evan, standing in the stands, felt like his throat was on fire.

He had been forced to cheer loudly for the Gryffindor team at Hermione’s insistence.

Next to him, Hermione was even more enthusiastic with her cheering. Normally calm and composed, she was now shouting herself hoarse.

Perhaps, she wanted to use this method to repair the recent tense relationship with Ginny.

Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw!

The last Quidditch match of the school year, the match that would decide the championship, was exceptionally thrilling and intense. Because of the excitement of the game, the enthusiasm of the students in the stands was far beyond expectations. Cheers and shouts came one after another, filling the entire stadium. It was as if everyone wanted to release all their pent-up energy from the school year.

Although Gryffindor’s strength had taken a big hit due to Captain Harry’s absence, Ginny’s performance was unexpectedly outstanding.

She perfectly replaced Harry’s position as Captain, and at times, even outshone him.

Ginny took effective measures in time against all the tactics of the Ravenclaw team. Under her nearly perfect command, Katie, who had returned to the team, led Coote and Demelza in repeated assaults on Ravenclaw’s goal. Ravenclaw simply couldn’t hold up their defense.

In the end, Ginny once again caught the Golden Snitch right in front of Cho Chang.

Cho seemed to cry again, but no one cared.

The stadium erupted in deafening cheers, and the students began to sing the old song “Weasley is our King” again.

But this time, they sang praises to the new hero: Ginny Weasley.

It was not that Ron didn’t do well. In fact, his performance in this game was also quite remarkable, blocking many attacks.

But compared with Ginny’s performance, he could only be said to have performed above his level, not brilliantly.

The only one who performed poorly in the team was Dean, who took over Ginny’s position as Beater. He seemed to be sleepwalking throughout the game, but with the ever-energetic Elaine, it didn’t matter whether he performed well or not. Anyway, Elaine hadn’t expected help from him.

She could control all the Bludgers on the field by herself, almost making Ravenclaw’s Chasers cry.

Quidditch, in the end, was still a brutal sport. The Ravenclaw team, which placed all its hopes on tactics and planning, was going in the wrong direction. If everything had gone according to their plan, it might’ve been fine. Once any unexpected situation occurred, they would be in trouble, completely lost.

At this moment, Harry still didn’t know that Gryffindor had won a resounding victory.

His mind was on the match, but his body had to be at Snape’s office. He knocked on the door nervously.

It was the unpleasantly familiar office that Snape, despite teaching floors above now, had not vacated. Harry had countless unpleasant memories here, especially last term, during the time he was learning Occlumency.

Snape had entered his mind again and again, barging through without restraint, viewing his past memories with complete disregard. That feeling…

To put it inappropriately, the word would be “played with.”

As soon as the knock on the door fell, Snape’s voice rang out from inside, “Come in, Potter!”

Harry walked in. The room was as dimly lit as ever; he wondered how Snape could even read in such lighting.

Slimy dead objects were suspended in colored potions all around the walls. Ominously, there were many cobwebbed boxes piled on a table where Harry was clearly supposed to sit; they had an aura of tedious, hard, and pointless work about them.

“Mr. Filch has been looking for someone to clear out these old files,” said Snape softly, not moving from his seat. “They are the records of other Hogwarts wrongdoers and their punishments. Where the ink has grown faint, or the cards have suffered damage from mice, we would like you to copy out the crimes and punishments afresh and, making sure that they are in alphabetical order, replace them in the boxes. You will not use magic.”

“Right, Professor,” said Harry, with as much contempt as he could put into the last three syllables. He had expected something like this.

“I thought you could start,” said Snape, a malicious smile on his lips, “with boxes one thousand and twelve to one thousand and fifty-six. You will find some familiar names in there, which should add interest to the task. Here, you see …”

He pulled out a card from one of the topmost boxes with a flourish and read, “ ‘James Potter. Apprehended using an illegal hex upon Bertram Aubrey. Aubrey’s head twice normal size. A week detention.’ ” Snape sneered. “It must be such a comfort to think that, though he is gone, a record of his great achievements remains. …”

Harry felt the familiar boiling sensation in the pit of his stomach. Biting his tongue to prevent himself retaliating, he sat down in front of the boxes and pulled one toward him.

It was, as Harry had anticipated, useless, boring work, punctuated with the regular jolt in the stomach that meant he had just read his father or Sirius’s names, usually coupled together in various petty misdeeds, occasionally accompanied by those of Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. And while he copied out all their various offenses and punishments, he wondered what was going on outside, where the match would have just started … Ginny playing Seeker against Cho …

Harry knew Cho very well, she was very experienced. Could Ginny really be a match for her?

It was not surprising, he was thinking more about Ginny now, hoping that she could beat Cho.

As for Cho… she felt like a familiar stranger to him now. He didn’t have much feeling for her anymore.

It was unbelievable. Just a term ago, he had been so infatuated with her, thinking she was the most beautiful girl at Hogwarts.

Of course, that title now belonged to Ginny.

Time passed slowly, and Harry glanced again and again at the large clock ticking on the wall.

It seemed to be moving half as fast as a regular clock; perhaps Snape had bewitched it to go extra slowly?

He could not have been here for only half an hour … an hour … an hour and a half. …

Harry’s stomach started rumbling when the clock showed half past twelve.

Snape, who had not spoken at all since setting Harry his task, finally looked up at ten past one.

“I think that will do,” he said coldly. “Mark the place you have reached. You will continue at ten o’clock next Saturday.”

“Yes, sir.” Harry obediently stuffed a bent card into the box at random, not bothering to think about why Snape hadn’t asked him anything about the Prince. Maybe Snape hadn’t seen the book in his memory after all.

Anyway, Harry hurried out of the door before Snape could change his mind, racing back up the stone steps, straining his ears to hear a sound from the pitch, but all was quiet. …

It was over, then. …
