- H.P.S.T Chapter 1496: How to Get the Twin-Serpent Staff
This was the true form of the evil god’s brain!
Due to the overwhelming darkness below, Evan could only make out a small section at the top of the brain, a semi-elliptical bulge. What he was currently seeing might only be a tiny part of the whole brain, but it was already astonishing enough, with an area as large as two Quidditch fields.
From this, it could be inferred that the evil god’s brain was unimaginably massive, far exceeding what Evan had previously imagined.
However, considering that the evil god’s body was composed of countless creatures, the size of the brain could be imagined proportionally.
Especially since beings like the evil god specialized in illusions and psychic attacks, it made sense that the brain seemed to comprise his entire essence.
In the area Evan could currently see, countless fleshy tubes and tentacles extended outwards from the brain’s bulging surface.
The surface of the brain pulsed at a strange rhythm, sometimes faster and sometimes a few beats slower than the heartbeat of a normal person.
The specific rhythm seemed to be related to the amount of liquid being pumped in through those tubes.
Because there were too many tubes extending outwards, Evan had no way to accurately measure the correlation between the fluid and the pulse.
He looked around but didn’t see the Twin-Serpent Staff.
The place here was different from the previous scene with the eyeball monster and the evil god’s body. There wasn’t even a trace of magical aura here.
The evil god did not attack them again, nor did he make any sound.
After being scared away by Dumbledore’s spell runes, he had gone completely silent, but he was definitely still present; the feeling of being watched was getting stronger and stronger.
In the unknown darkness, in the mysterious and quiet sea, Herpo the Foul’s brain was staring at the three of them.
It was waiting for an opportunity, like a hunter ready to attack at any time, and would not hesitate to attack them if they were the slightest bit relaxed.
It had already assessed the strength of Evan and Dumbledore, so when it attacked again, it would no doubt be fully confident of victory!
As the tentacles retracted back towards the main body, Evan got a closer and clearer view of the evil god’s brain which was getting larger and more distinct.
Or rather, it was this thing similar to the brain. If it wasn’t actually a brain, it had to be some kind of creation of the evil god. To be honest, Evan couldn’t say for sure whether a brain was even supposed to look like this. What he saw before him looked more like some kind of extra-dimensional structure, quietly floating in the depths of the sea.
There was even an entrance on the upper left, near the top.
Dumbledore waved his wand, and under his control, the tentacle carried the three of them directly towards the entrance and stopped beside it.
Then, he motioned for Evan and Harry to go inside…
into the interior of the evil god’s brain!
That’s right, this was what Dumbledore asked Evan and Harry to do. Having regained some of his strength, he led the way inside.
Though the shocks of the night had already been overwhelming, Evan still found this utterly bizarre.
Following Dumbledore into the body of some creature, and this creature was the brain of a wizard who had lived for thousands of years.
No matter how he thought about it, it was just… strange!
As for the fact that it was obviously a brain, but there was an extra hole on it, this kind of thing obviously could not be understood by common sense.
Entering through the opening felt like stepping into a cave, but instead of rough stone, the interior was made of a red-purple, keratinous flesh. The space inside formed a long, dark, narrow tunnel that curved forwards into the distance, its end obscured from view.
The red-purple walls of flesh were not smooth; distinct textures and deep folds could be seen across the surface.
There were some small beige bugs squirming between the creases. They seemed not afraid of water, but when illuminated by the light of Evan’s wand, they quickly retreated into the folds.
Dumbledore approached the cave wall, holding the wand in his left hand, and stroked it with the fingertips of his right hand covered with spells, as if sensing and searching for something. He could see the cave wall beating at his fingertips. He touched the cave wall and groped forwards until he pressed his palm flat on a certain place.
He began to chant an incantation, and for the first time, the runes on his arm activated, glowing with an eerie green light.
Suddenly, the section of flesh he touched pulled back on both sides, revealing the outline of an arched doorway. A thin film of pale yellow slime remained in its place.
Through the film, a dreamy white light radiated from the arch.
It was the light emitted by the liquid formed from those happy emotions. In the haze, Evan saw a large lake with white light. He followed Dumbledore in, and it was sticky as if he entered the paste, but the layer of mucus membrane between the arches did not hinder them, but isolated the sea water outside.
“Professor!” Seeing Dumbledore lift the Bubble-Head Charm, Evan did the same, then looked carefully at the scene in front of him.
The air was filled with a strong sweet scent, the smell of that liquid transformed from happy emotions.
They were being transported here from above by countless fleshy tubes, and finally gathered in the huge lake in front of Evan.
The lake was extremely wide and endless, and the other side could not be seen at all.
The ceiling above was the same fleshy tissue as outside, with many cortical tubes extending from the outside, crisscrossing in a complex structure.
Considering the shape of the brain, they were now in an area close to the top, suggesting just how deep this lake must be.
Far in the distance, near what appeared to be the center of the lake, there was a hazy, green light flickering, very obvious in the white lake waters. It was the Twin-Serpent Staff, floating there quietly.
The end of the Staff was against the surface of the lake, and two green snakes were entangled, motionless.
“Here we are. This is it, the core of Slytherin’s magic seal,” said Dumbledore softly, his voice laced with exhaustion.
“Professor, your condition,” Evan asked with concern, his eyes moving away from the Twin-Serpent Staff.
“It’s nothing,” said Dumbledore weakly. “That’s not what matters right now. What worries me is the growing strength of the evil god. On my previous visits, he never reacted, but just now, he attacked us.”
“Maybe it was because my Patronus provoked him.”
“Maybe, but this reminds us that his power is increasing, and your Patronus Charm gave me an inspiration, Evan,” said Dumbledore.
“What inspiration?”
“An idea that might help us solve our current problem,” Dumbledore replied. “If nothing goes wrong, I believe I have figured out a way to retrieve that Staff.”
“But what exactly is stopping us from getting the Twin-Serpent Staff?” Evan paused, then continued, “Is it the lake water?”
“Not entirely. That’s just one of many obstacles standing in our way.”
“Professor, is there something in the lake?” Harry interjected. He had many unanswered questions.
So much shocking stuff had happened tonight that he didn’t know where to begin, so he simply jumped in on the conversation between Evan and Dumbledore.
“In fact, what we’re seeing here isn’t water in the ordinary sense. It’s a form of energy, the purest energy transformed from positive emotions. The reason it has been gathered here is to restrain the power of that Staff,” Dumbledore explained, his gaze fixed on the Twin-Serpent Staff floating on the lake’s surface. “The evil god is trying to use this method to counteract the sealing magic Slytherin left behind. Of course, Harry, your question isn’t wrong either; there is something beneath the surface of this lake.”
