- H.P.S.T Chapter 1698: Magical Transformation
Evan truly didn’t notice Dalian waving at him. He was now concentrating all his energy on controlling the spell, and didn’t even realize he had begun to float off the ground. All he felt was the wand in his hand growing heavier and heavier.
Yes — what had once been a light, almost weightless wand was steadily gaining weight.
Evan was almost unable to keep hold of his wand; the burden weighing upon it was nothing but magic itself.
As a form of energy, magic also has weight, and when it accumulates to a certain degree, that weight becomes perceptible.
Now, every swing of Evan’s wand was extremely difficult, as though he were stirring a pot of rice porridge that was gradually thickening and congealing. He had to constantly pour his own magic into the wand to counterbalance it; otherwise, the wand might be crushed by the magic converging from outside.
And that was not all. At the same time, he had to ceaselessly repeat Dalian’s words, maintaining the spell’s continuation.
Throughout the process, he increasingly relied on his physical instincts, as his energy was entirely focused on controlling the spell. Now, whatever he heard, Evan instinctively repeated it, completely oblivious to the abnormality in Dalian’s voice.
His current state was strange; under the influence of magic, he seemed on the verge of detaching from reality itself, dissolving into magic.
What would happen if a wizard were infused with a large amount of magic?
Evan had experienced this once during the Quidditch World Cup. Back then, he had overused the power of the Gryffindor Philosopher’s Stone, and the powerful, frenzied magic had nearly torn his body apart. However, with the help of The Book of Abraham, he absorbed the excess magic from the Philosopher’s Stone, transforming a portion of it into his own power.
Now, he was facing the same situation again — and The Book of Abraham showed no reaction at all.
Worse still, Evan had no choice but to rely on the Philosopher’s Stone to increase the infusion of magic.
Relying on his own strength alone, he was already close to losing control of the magic converging from all directions.
Once he lost control, the half-released spell would fail, all previous effort wasted.
Without further thought, Evan swung his wand horizontally, and his Slytherin locket flew up, floating in front of him. The lid opened, and the Gryffindor Philosopher’s Stone slowly drifted out.
Orange-red light was embedded in blue radiance as boundless power surged forth from the Philosopher’s Stone.
Magic flooded into Evan’s body, and he frantically funneled it into his wand.
With the influx of magic, excruciating pain struck. Evan felt as though he were a balloon being crushed from within by magic, on the verge of bursting. All his veins bulged, filled not with blood, but with magic, alternating between pale blue and orange-red.
Even faster than before, his body began to convert rapidly into magic, gradually merging with the surrounding currents of power.
Below, in the hall, Dalian watched in horror as Evan’s body visibly faded, dissolving into magic before his eyes.
He stopped in terror and shouted Evan’s name, but the magic did not cease.
In the blink of an eye, Evan’s body vanished completely, leaving only a deep blue mass near the dome.
The library trembled slightly, while the magic of the entire castle continued to stream towards that place without end.
Even though the incantation had already been interrupted, the magic itself did not stop.
Dalian was filled with anxiety, at a complete loss as to what he should do; the records left by their ancestors had never mentioned anything like this.
At this moment, amidst excruciating pain, Evan gritted his teeth and endured!
His voice grew louder and louder as he chanted, every syllable shouted out at the top of his lungs.
Suddenly, Dalian’s voice disappeared!
Only the trembling sound of magic remained in Evan’s ears; he no longer heard Dalian reciting ancient runes.
“Damn it, something’s gone wrong!”
Evan’s heart skipped a beat. He looked up abruptly and found that the surrounding scenery had changed drastically. The library was gone, replaced by the view outside the castle. He was standing very high above the castle, with everything below laid bare before his eyes.
Beneath the castle lay a bustling medieval town. Rows of elegant, old-fashioned buildings stretched into the distance. It looked somewhat like Hogsmeade, but far grander. This was the Ravenclaw family’s domain from a thousand years ago.
The town was teeming with people, both wizards and Muggles.
In addition, there were many warriors and knights clad in armor, all dressed in unmistakably medieval style.
None of them seemed aware that danger was descending upon them; life went on as usual.
Evan’s gaze continued forward. At the edge of the town lay a vast lake that stretched as far as the eye could see, its waters as blue as sapphire.
But deep beneath the lake’s surface, a single wash of green burned with a distinctly unnatural brightness.
It was the mark of Dark Magic — the sign that the Ravenclaw family was opening the Veil of Death, the omen of an evil god’s descent.
Because of the surrounding structures, Evan couldn’t see the specific situation in front of the Veil of Death.
He could only see the green magical glow growing brighter and brighter. He stared at it for a while before realizing how strange his current position was. He seemed to be observing everything from the perspective of the Valkyrie statue atop the castle.
Then Evan noticed something else equally unsettling about his own state.
“Where’s Dalian? What’s going on with this magic?” Evan wasn’t sure if he had failed. He found himself completely immobilized, fixed in place. He tried to look down at his body.
His body was gone; what he saw was the magnificent Valkyrie statue. This, it seemed, was now his body.
Or more accurately, Evan was now attached to the Valkyrie statue in a bizarre state.
Magic surrounded him on all sides!
Motes of magic shimmered with a pale blue glow, countless streams gathering into a single wash of blue light.
The magic energy adhered to the Valkyrie statue, making the entire statue seem to glow.
The statue, too, was transforming into magic!
Before long, the townspeople below noticed something was wrong. Evan saw many of them stop and point in his direction.
Soldiers were rapidly gathering, and several powerful wizards flew towards the castle.
But they soon halted, no longer paying attention to the imagery of the Valkyrie statue, but turning in horror to look at the Veil of Death in the lake. When Evan lifted his gaze once more, he saw a mass of black mist rising from the Veil of Death at the center of the lake.
The sky-covering black mist flew towards the castle and the town below at an astonishing speed.
He immediately realized that it wasn’t black mist, but countless black flies.
Only the most vile and forbidden Dark Magic could summon black flies from hell.
That meant that the Veil of Death had already been opened, and the evil god within was about to descend!
Evan watched helplessly as the witches and wizards below, along with warriors, knights, and Muggles, came into contact with the black flies. In the blink of an eye, their lives were torn away. Not even bodies were left behind; their souls were seized by the flies and dragged towards the Veil of Death.
