Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 108 (Part 1):
Instructor Patricia was worried.
‘She shouldn’t be too disappointed.’
Charlotte was an excellent and diligent student that the instructors cherished.
Compared to the inhuman genius Helmut or the crazy dog Asuka in front of her, she was very cute and likable.
‘I guess it was too much to pair her with Helmut.’
It couldn’t be helped. Charlotte had to be matched with Helmut to some extent.
“May I go too?”
Instructor Patricia stopped Helmut who was about to leave.
“Come here for a moment.”
Helmut asked indifferently.
“Do you have something to say?”
He was hoping to finish the business quickly. Helmut had to go prepare for the written exam.
While he was undoubtedly confident in his swordsmanship practical, the same couldn’t be said for that side.
Even though Alea had given him a passing score, there could still be unexpected variables during the exam.
The words Patricia brought up were enough to catch Helmut’s attention.
“You are becoming more handsome day by day.”
It was a serious tone for a joke. Her expression was serious too. Helmut felt perplexed. Even when he looked in the mirror, he only checked if there was anything on his face.
Patricia continued her words.
“Your skills proportionally match your appearance, and you are diligent. You are a really good student. I feel proud as an instructor.”
‘What is this sudden compliment?’
“I know how outstanding your skills are. But other grade instructors don’t know. That’s always regrettable. But now, such a good opportunity has come!”
Instructor Patricia clapped her hands as if she was regretful.
“You are really impatient. Don’t you want to show off your excellent skills in front of these instructors properly?”
“Why should I do that?”
“Well, how should I put it? You’ve worked hard during the first semester. Everyone wants to see your swordsmanship properly. Look at those disappointed expressions.”
She pointed to the instructors behind her. The instructors looked more like ‘Why did it end so quickly?’ or ‘How should I evaluate this?’ rather than looking disappointed.
Patricia didn’t want the second-year midterm exams to be conducted through duels. At least, she wanted the second and third years to duel.
But it didn’t go as she wanted. It was a matter decided at a full faculty meeting due to the overall schedule of the department.
Helmut, who glanced at them, asked as if he was curious.
“So, you want to waste time showing off my swordsmanship in front of a weak opponent?”
“…No, it’s not exactly like that.”
‘This guy is too straightforward.’
“I just feel bad. The other instructors haven’t seen your swordsmanship properly.”
Even Patricia rarely saw it properly. Every time she watched, Helmut always concluded the duel overwhelmingly.
Humans often package what they want to say in a plausible way.
The reason why Instructor Patricia couldn’t say it outright was because, no matter what, Helmut’s score was perfect.
What she was saying was ultimately consideration for the opponent. His duel opponent. The pitiful juniors who have to face defeat without even having the chance to show their well-honed swordsmanship. It was a similar intention to the transfer exam.
Helmut decided to go along with her plan.
In this case, he wouldn’t display Darian’s swordsmanship, and using the common swordsmanship would be enough. It might be a bit bothersome, but there’s nothing wrong with it.
“My next duel will probably take a bit longer.”
“Do you know how much I cherish you?”
“…I’ll go now.”
After giving a somewhat awkward glance to Patricia, who seemed to be insisting too much, Helmut bowed and turned away.
With this, even if he gets involved with Asuka or if something happens because of Asuka, Instructor Patricia would turn a blind eye. That was his calculation.
