Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 11 (Part 1):
-Don’t get angry. I’m a pacifist.
Naho, with his eyes slightly open, pulled his head back as if he had just seen something extraordinary.
-Just because you accidentally entered my territory for a moment doesn’t mean we’re going to fight outright. We’ve been on good terms for quite a while.
The corners of the snake’s mouth stretched long as if recalling a welcoming smile. Yet, it was a vicious grin.
Elaga also eased her momentum a bit. She knew he could attack at any moment. Without completely relaxing, she continued.
-Well, fine. I apologize for freely entering your territory. I admit that.
Naho slithered his body away. As the distance grew, his scaly body was again hidden in the fog. Only the eerie pair of eyes shone light from within the fog.
A cold voice echoed as if he had never acted kindly before.
-now, get your smelly body out of my territory… I hope you never set foot in my territory again… The fact that your dirty fur is falling in my territory is really, Unpleasant.
The pair of snake eyes flashed coldly. Naho was notorious for being fierce and cruel. Monsters that rule the area usually do not monopolize their territory alone.
They tolerate the ones who come and go as long as they acknowledge his rule, although they sometimes eat them.
But Naho was different. If a monster mistakenly entered his territory and caught his eye, he immediately chased it and swallowed it whole. He melted both their flesh and magical cores inside his stomach. He was a greedy predator.
The reason Naho let Elaga go was because Elaga was that strong.
Sharp claws and fangs, swift movements—Elaga was an opponent you couldn’t crush or devour in one piece.
Unless Elaga starts a fight first, it’s best to avoid a collision.
Even monsters from other territories, while acknowledging his strength, disliked Naho. This sinister snake was a subject of aversion to everyone.
Naho, who decided to back down for now against Elaga’s momentum, sharpened his gaze.
‘I can’t help it. I don’t have time for this.’
Letting Elaga, who clearly invaded his territory, go like this was humiliating.
If Elaga shows a little gap, Naho would gladly swallow him with a smile.
The tense air loosened. Elaga, Confirming Naho’s retreat, hooked Helmut with her tail.
Helmut, who had fallen pale, was carried away by the tail.
Reaching Darien’s doorstep, Elaga let Helmut down.
Thud. Helmut lay sprawled on the ground. He had no strength to crawl up to Darien’s house. Elaga, sitting beside him, tapped Helmut with her tail.
-You Weakling, is this all it took for you to collapse?
If he was an ordinary boy who did not have a seed of darkness and was not trained, Helmut would have already suffocated in the power struggle between the two monsters. So Elaga’s evaluation was unfair.
Helmut chose to lie down and catch his breath. The sensation of impending death that penetrated deep into his heart, the overwhelming pressure of the dark magic emanating from Naho’s body, and the formidable force—all had subsided.
-What are you doing?
Elaga’s tail tapped Helmut’s cheek. Helmut squinted his eyes.
-Since Naho saw you, don’t wander around alone in the future, stick to that Darien or whatever.
Helmut turned around to avoid the tail. Elaga spoke in a gruff voice.
-He probably won’t come this far. But, you know, if there’s a possibility. Be smart. He might send someone to kidnap you, being a human marked with Darien’s scent.
“…Alright.”
Elaga noticed Helmut’s lackluster response and nudged his side with her tail.
Rolling in a circle, Helmut looked up at the sky again. When facing Naho, Helmut felt fear. It was an instinctive fear.
The unsettling feeling still lingered in his gut. But Helmut decided not to lose his strength.
-Listen carefully, Naho is persistent. He’s the most cunning and foul-tempered creature in the Forest. Even if he pretended to back off, deep down, he’d harbor suspicions. Being under my protection and having the scent of Darien, he’ll be attracted.
“So I should be careful? Got it.”
If Naho openly targets him, Helmut will not be able to resist and will just die.
Helmut looked at the sky. When he faced Naho, Helmut felt fear. It was an instinctive fear.
No matter how brave a person can be, it’s hard to be calm in the face of death that cannot be resisted.
Ironically, his entire body was trembling. It wasn’t shameful to be weak. Helmut was never the strong one in the Forest of Roots.
But what was this emotion welling up from deep within his bones?
-I was powerless. I just trembled behind Elaga.
