Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 12 (Part 2):
By the time a month had passed, learning while being beaten to the point of having a lump on his head, Helmut was able to perfectly follow the action shown by Darien. It was a surprisingly fast pace for Darien.
He immediately threw the next task.
“It starts with how you hold the sword.”
“Humans learn something called swordsmanship. This is the same as the hunting method of beasts. It is a way to wield a sword, knock down an enemy, and seize victory.”
Helmuth was busy listening to the pouring words.
Darien wasn’t usually talkative, but when he started lecturing, it was like a storm of words.
Darien hated explaining twice. If he confirmed whether it was understood and sensed any confusion, he would strike. He believed violence was the best way.
“If you understand, say it.”
Helmut repeated what he said verbatim. Concentration was improving day by day. Not only when swinging the sword but also when listening to lectures.
Vis didn’t directly affect intelligence. However, as Vis accumulated, the influence of the seed of darkness increased. As cognition developed, memory and learning abilities improved.
Helmut managed to avoid Darien’s violently mixed scolding.
Darien, noticing that Helmut properly understood the teachings, opened his mouth with a stern expression.
“There’s something you need to keep in mind.”
His tone was seriously laid out. Helmut asked casually.
“What is it?”
“The swordsmanship you’re going to learn belongs to me. And displaying my swordsmanship means announcing that you are my disciple. Didn’t I mention before why I came to the Forest of Roots?”
Helmut nodded. Darien was thrown into the Forest of Roots by his enemies. He didn’t know how it happened.
But Darien’s strength seemed intact, so he could probably assume he fell victim to cunning tactics.
“I got trapped in the Forest of Roots by those who opposed me. Whether they couldn’t kill me because they still had a trace of conscience, or because there was a lack of reason, I don’t know.”
“Who are they?”
“That’s…”
Darien, who closed his eyes, briefly spoke.
“…I’ll let you know later. After all of this is over.”
It sounded like it wasn’t far away. At the moment when he was captivated by a strange sensation, Darien said.
“Remember. By learning swordsmanship from me, when you go to the human world, you may inherit all my enemies. No, it might be inevitable.”
“Do they want to kill me because I’m your disciple?”
“Yeah, they probably think you’ve come for revenge. Even if you say you won’t, they won’t believe it.”
“Do you want me to seek revenge for you?”
Helmut asked cheerfully. Their gazes met. Darien’s deep pupils flickered intensely.
It might not be easy, but if he wanted revenge, Helmut would stand in for him. He could accept that much.
However, Darien cut it off without hesitation.
“No, they’re not to be underestimated. If you rush, there’s a high chance of exposing your identity, and with the seed of darkness, you’ll become a public enemy of humanity. Teaching you the sword wasn’t intended for you to go out and die.”
Before Helmut could say more, Darian spoke firmly.
“What I’m telling you is not to reveal your swordsmanship as much as possible. It doesn’t mean saving your skills even when facing a strong opponent. If you encounter a strong opponent, do your best, swiftly take down the enemy. That way, naturally, you’ll have fewer chances to reveal your swordsmanship. Understood?”
Helmut nodded silently.
“When you’ve sufficiently mastered my swordsmanship, I’ll also teach you about common swordsmanship. With that alone, you should be able to deal with most small fry. But remember. Never use a clumsy disguise swordsmanship against a strong opponent. A moment of carelessness could bring death upon you.”
His words instilled a sense of crisis.
Darien has been implying the human world as a very dangerous and brutal world since before.
It was strange. Wasn’t this the Forest of Roots? And Helmut had survived even in the Forest of Roots.
“Is the outside world really so full of enemies and danger?”
Darian affirmed decisively.
“Yes, don’t think that the human world is any different from this Forest. The monsters here may have a sinister appearance, automatically arousing vigilance. However, humans are different. With a weak and insignificant shell, they will deceive and manipulate you, pushing you into death before you know it.”
Darien genuinely believed so. The crucial point here was that Darian’s last experience had been betrayal.
Since then, he has been thrown into the Forest of Roots, experienced the human farms, and lived in isolation, so there was no way to wash away his distrust of humans.
Helmut, who was unaware of this fact, pondered for a moment.
‘Is returning to the supposedly dangerous human world a good choice?’
But now, having learned from Darien, even if it felt unjust, it seemed he couldn’t stop. Helmut solemnly vowed,
‘In order to survive in the human world, I must become as strong as possible here.’
If a monster like Elaga approaches with a weak appearance like the women he saw in Naho’s territory at that time, he might let his guard down.
‘No matter who the opponent is, I must never let my guard down. A flower vine may seem beautiful, but it harbors powerful poison, doesn’t it?’
Once again, he made a determined decision with a slightly off-kilter determination. Firmly regaining his composure, Helmut went back into training.
The intensified sense of purpose had taken deep root in him, stronger than before.
