Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 120 (Part 2):
“Where on earth did these guys hide the alcohol?”
When Helmut returned, Group 9’s table was in chaos. Patricia was grabbing Wesley by the neck, shaking him.
“Te, teacher. I think I’m going to throw up… Ugh!”
With lightning-fast movements, Wesley vomited on the table, simultaneously slamming his head into it.
The guys from the next group, who were watching, grimaced at the disgusting sight.
“That Wesley brought the alcohol. He’s the ringleader who led the group astray.”
Asuka, who had been watching with his chin propped up, grumbled. Being strong against alcohol, he had sobered up after drinking some water.
In contrast, the others were either passed out, staggering, or vomiting.
“You’re an accomplice too!”
Thud! As always, Asuka, who got hit on the head, squinted his eyes and protested.
“No, I just drank the alcohol that was brought!”
“You should have stopped them. Becoming complicit in wrongdoing despite being the swordsmanship department’s second-best?”
Although it’s not a reason for discipline, it was certainly a reason for reprimand. Feeling unjustly treated, Asuka pointed accusingly at Helmut, who was just returning.
“He drank too! Why are you only getting on my case?”
He was a guy who sold the word ‘loyalty’ well. Instructor Patricia was about to raise her hand but flinched.
“Helmut, where have you been?”
“Felt sick, so I went for a bit. Sorry. They said it was Hennessy’s liquor, so I got curious and tried it.”
Helmut spoke plainly, his expression blank. His dark eyes in the dark forest seemed eerily black. Somehow, it was an atmosphere where you couldn’t hit him on the head.
“…Alright, fine. Clean this up. You don’t have any more hidden liquor, do you?”
“No!”
“Better not. If caught again, instead of enjoying group activities, you’ll be training under me.”
“Yes, yes.”
Asuka answered dryly and kicked the sprawled guys to wake them up. He also poured cold water on the face of a guy who couldn’t regain his senses.
Helmut was intrigued.
‘Training? Sounds good.’
With Patricia around, it would be hard for anyone to play tricks. Even if her idea of strenuous training was hardly a challenge for Helmut.
But Helmut was hoping for someone to make a move.
Tomorrow was the hunting competition. It had been a long time since he last hunted. A somewhat dangerous hunt. He looked forward to it.
Hennessy’s liquor is said to be effective against insomnia. That night, Helmut slept sweetly, his first night at the campsite.
The morning of the hunting competition dawned. Breakfast was provided until the morning of the third day, when students were to leave the campsite for group activities. After that, it was mostly self-sufficiency.
The swordsmanship department students, who had woken up at 8 a.m., had breakfast and gathered in one place.
There had been no incidents or desertions overnight. Since it’s a forest even if someone leaves the campsite, there is nothing they can do.
Their robust physical condition meant they were all brimming with energy. Riding horses all day wasn’t exactly an ordeal for swordsmanship department students.
“Is everyone gathered?”
After calling out names one by one for attendance, Alan began the briefing.
“Listen carefully to the explanation about the hunting competition starting now! Everyone will move on foot. Before leaving, bows and arrows, a map of the nearby area, lunch, and drinks will be provided. You can use your personal bow if you have one. Make sure not to shoot arrows at people. Always check your target before shooting. The competition ends at 5 p.m. Only the catch brought back by this time will be recognized. Return early to avoid being late. The forest gets dark quickly, so don’t get lost and make us come searching for you. You can move in groups if you want, but make sure to act in pairs or more so that if someone gets injured, they can be reported. Keep in mind that there are predators in Pedica forest.”
Patricia took over the explanation.
“The catch will be evaluated based on the most valuable catch brought back. Simply catching a lot of rabbits won’t help. The harder or rarer the prey, the higher the score. A fox scores higher than a rabbit, a bear higher than a fox, and a leopard higher than a bear. A white fox scores higher than a grey one, so if luck is on your side, you might score high with an easier catch. Do not hunt animals with offspring. If you’ve caught a deer, don’t bother catching a worthless rabbit. We’re holding a competition, not trying to wipe out the wildlife in Pedica forest.”
With over a hundred students from the swordsmanship department present, it was indeed possible to significantly impact the wildlife. Hence, there were restrictions.
