Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 121 (Part 1):
“Next, the awards will be announced. There are prizes up to fifth place. Fifth place will receive 10 academy meal vouchers, fourth place will get a high-quality quill and ink set, third place will receive a voucher for 10 books from the academy bookstore, second place will get a voucher for the use of a personal training ground, and first place will receive all these benefits. Professor Dwayne will be at the campsite, so don’t go too far and if anyone gets hurt, come back and report immediately, that’s all!”
Instructor Alan declared lastly.
“The hunting contest begins now!”
Everyone started to move. To find better prey, they had to go far from the campsite.
If they were walking, there was a limit, so they needed to manage their time to return before 5 PM.
If the prey was big, they could use Vis to drag it, but it would take a long time. They had to hurry.
The high standards and wealthy students started complaining as soon as they left the campsite.
“The prizes are rather meager.”
“It’s for students, so they can’t put money on it. The 2nd place is a bit tempting though.”
“I want first place.”
“Obviously, first place is the best, right? But having a personal training ground is something else.”
“It’s better to train alone in solitude than with those sweaty ones.”
“If my grades are good this semester, I can use the personal training ground next semester, right?”
“Right. But you’re likely to struggle with grades anyway, why not hope for luck in the hunt?”
“What? This guy! Speaking as if it’s easy.”
“I’m going to be lucky today. I had a good dream. Dreamt of picking up gold in the forest.”
“May you get hit by gold-colored bird droppings instead!”
While some spat out words in a challenging tone, others showed compassion.
“It’s cruel. I don’t want to do it.”
“Acting noble, huh?”
“Acting noble? You’ve never seen the eyes of a fawn that lost its mother. You wouldn’t say that if you knew how pitiful it looks.”
“I haven’t seen it, but I know this. Fawn meat is tender and delicious. Roasted whole is excellent.”
“You beastly bastard!”
Fortunately, there was no disagreement between Helmut and Asuka. Both were keen to participate in the hunting contest.
Especially Asuka was enthusiastic. He exclaimed with shining eyes.
“Alright, at least second place. Secure the personal training ground!”
Asuka immediately asked Helmut.
“Do you know a suitable place to hunt? It seems like the prey will run away due to the number of people around here.”
“There should be prey near the water. They will come to drink.”
“Didn’t we pass a water source on the way here? It’s a bit far, but it’s worth going and coming back. Will it take about two hours round trip?”
“Let’s go there.”
Team 9’s members followed Helmut and Asuka. Although it wasn’t a rule to move in teams, it somehow turned out that way.
The two ran lightly through the forest. Though they ran lightly, they were quite fast. The team members had to grit their teeth to follow.
They couldn’t fall behind, being proud members of the swordsmanship department.
“Ah, this is tough. Haven’t we almost arrived?”
After a while, Asuka stopped, wiping the sweat from his forehead. His nose was also wet.
The arriving team members had long been out of breath. Driven by stubbornness, they either leaned against a tree or collapsed on the ground.
“Huff, huff, didn’t you say we’d take a break once?”
“I thought I was going to die following you.”
Hunting or whatever, they seemed ready to drop. Asuka snorted at the sprawled team members.
“Who asked you to follow?”
Helmut, looking as if he had just taken a leisurely stroll, didn’t have a single drop of sweat on his face, annoyingly.
“The water source is about a 5-minute walk from here. Let’s move quietly from this point on. We’ll start to see prey soon.”
“Let’s get this done quickly!”
As Asuka raised his fist, the expressions of Team 9’s members darkened.
“Are we going right away?”
“Hey, let’s rest a bit first…”
“No, we’ll act separately from here. Too many of us together will hinder the hunt.”
After all, only one person can catch one prey. Everyone here is a competitor, including Asuka, but it doesn’t seem possible to shake him off right now.
‘It would be better to shake him off.’
To allow Black Hawk to approach him, it would be better without Asuka. He could freely engage the opponent alone.
For now, he had to shake off the others.
What Helmut wanted was a battle. A long-awaited battle! He knew he must avoid killing, but he couldn’t help but hope for an unavoidable battle to come his way.
Helmut added.
“You guys should split up too. Too many people moving together will actually hinder the hunt.”
Team 9’s members looked at each other.
“Alright.”
“We’ll move separately in pairs.”
“Splitting into pairs should work.”
“There’s no rush, let’s rest a bit before moving.”
“Let’s do that.”
