Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 137 (Part 1):
-The End of the First Semester-
After leaving the Pedica Forest, uneventful days followed one after another. Helmut had adapted well to academy life, hiding his claws and being an outstanding and exemplary student—not ordinary, yet not excessively sharp like a rock.
It was a day before the final exams.
‘Do you know a woman named Margret Irene?’
‘That name is…’
Sitting by the window cooling his head, Helmut suddenly recalled an event from a few weeks ago.
Charlotte’s eyes, widened in surprise, and her subsequent answer, as well as the cryptic conversation he had with Alea afterward, flashed through his mind. For some reason, his memory of Alea was particularly vivid.
‘Didn’t you have a duel with that first-year girl?’
Her expression was usual, but her gaze was sharp.
‘Yeah, she asked me to.’
‘So, you do everything you’re asked?’
‘Not really.’
‘Then you’re close enough to do such favors?’
‘Close enough?’
‘You’re asking because you don’t know?’
After a tiresome conversation, Helmut gave a noncommittal answer. There were things he couldn’t disclose to her.
‘She was a decent opponent, just sparring for practice. Asuka would get mad if I fought with him. Obviously, I’d win.’
‘Ah, I see.’
Alea finally seemed convinced. She must have realized she had been prying too much. Turning away, she left him with one last piece of advice.
‘Anyway, be careful!’
Was she warning him to beware of her followers? In Helmut’s view, Charlotte didn’t seem like the type to tire Alea out.
But that was his judgment. Alea might not appreciate hearing it. Perhaps it meant something else, but Helmut didn’t dwell on puzzles he couldn’t solve.
‘Do I feel like I’m being overly attached, or is it my imagination?’
Alea’s friend was practically only Helmut. He had heard that in limited social circles, it’s common to focus too much on the only friend you have. From that perspective, it wasn’t incomprehensible.
In truth, Helmut had wondered if Alea’s secrecy hid something else. However, he was completely oblivious in that regard.
In some ways, he was so indifferent that he seemed unbothered. If he was being overly attached to, so be it.
Helmut closed his book. This time, he was using the library in a new way. Now that he knew how to study, he no longer needed tutoring sessions and didn’t have to look for a study room.
Asuka, finding the library stifling, rented a study room with Sian. Helmut could naturally distance himself from them.
Helmut realized that new experiences, in any form, influenced his achievements. He was contemplating how to expand these new experiences. Using the overcrowded library during exam periods was part of this plan.
In the library, everyone sat in a long table format, lined up on both sides.
They buried their noses in piles of books. The room was so quiet that only the sound of pens moving and paper rustling could be heard.
There, Helmut was an anomaly. The entrance of a ridiculously handsome swordsmanship department male student drew everyone’s attention.
Though they quickly returned their gaze to their books, some were bold enough to approach him.
“Drink this while you study.”
A beautiful girl, exuding a seductive charm, placed a bottle of lemon juice at his spot. Helmut looked at it suspiciously and replied coldly.
“I don’t drink things from others.”
He wasn’t particularly picky about food, but he felt uneasy accepting something from this senior. She was a third-year magic department top student and one of Alea’s followers. Even if she wasn’t, Helmut perceived her as one.
“Do you remember my name? We’ve met before.”
“I don’t know. This is a library, and we shouldn’t be talking.”
Though whispered, the library was filled with study-enthusiasts. They were all sensitive. Teresa flinched under their scowling eyes and whispered to Helmut.
“Then, could we step outside for a moment? I have something to tell you.”
She was attractive enough to appeal to anyone, exuding confidence with her proactive demeanor. His eyes returned to his book.
“No.”
Helmut was firm.
“I have to study for exams.”
‘What kind of person is this!’
Teresa’s pride was hurt. She enjoyed high popularity on campus. It was the first time someone had rebuffed her so haughtily. But she hadn’t expected it to be easy from the start. She forced a smile.
“Alright, I won’t disturb you. See you next time.”
Though he didn’t want to see her again, Helmut responded lightly.
“Okay.”
Because causing trouble with a mage would be troublesome.
