Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 141 (Part 2):
Their bodies trembled from the impact. Helmut, shaping his Vis, looked up. From where he had just come out, the ceiling of a demolished building was collapsing.
Inside, a powerful magical force was felt as if reaching to the sky with the surge of magic.
‘This magic…’
Helmut immediately dashed off, breaking into a run. Through the collapsed wall, a distinct silver light caught his eye, magic rising around it like mist. Silver hair fluttering.
There stood Alea, having demolished one of the exam halls with destructive magic!
The magic rose from her body like steam, not seeming excited or out of control. However, an indescribable chill emanated from Alea, as if she would freeze anyone who approached.
Someone had entered before Helmut. Professor Dwayne, who had been guarding the exit, raised his hand in alarm.
“Alea! You, if you destroy the building.”
As Alea turned her head, Professor Dwayne’s voice halted abruptly. Her purple eyes flashed coldly.
“I’ve passed the 10th level, right?”
Her gaze seemed to question the very nature of such a ridiculous test. Always cold and sarcastic, this side of Alea was unexpected. She felt like a tense beast, bristling with hostility. Professor Dwayne stuttered in response.
“With the building collapsed, it’s hard to tell the criteria.”
“That’s for the crystal to decide, isn’t it? Analyze it. I don’t need the prize.”
Her attitude suggested it was obvious she had passed the 10th level.
“Ah, Alea! How can we deal with the exam hall being destroyed like this!”
“The fault lies with the exam hall. It would be wise to invest more in it. Or, tell the dean to stop testing students with such vile hobbies. It’s his doing, isn’t it?”
“That’s…”
Knowing who Alea’s guardian was, Professor Dwayne coughed awkwardly.
Alea internally vented her frustration at her guardian. Collecting insect specimens might be a rare but not a weird hobby. However, applying it to an academy exam was another matter.
As she advanced through the levels, Alea’s patience reached its limit. At the final stage, she momentarily lost her cool. Before she knew it, this was the result.
‘I’ve become too emotional.’
Yet, humans sometimes act on emotion. Alea decided not to reflect on it. Instead, she calmly suggested leaving the repair costs to the dean. It was the guardian’s job to clean up the mess.
Emerging from the destroyed exam hall, Alea finally noticed Helmut standing beyond the wall.
Surprised, Alea’s expression softened slightly, like a tense string loosening. She spoke up.
“You… Did you also take the exam?”
“Yeah, what happened?”
“Ah, a bit of a mistake. I didn’t realize.”
Alea nodded slightly. The moment she witnessed it, her desire to keep her composure vanished. She poured out as much magic as possible to annihilate it. Completely! That intention alone filled her.
Magic is the power to manifest will. The effects were astonishing. The magic, unconsciously concerned with crossing certain limits, not only shattered the illusion but also the illusion-creating exam hall itself.
Helmut immediately understood.
“The 10th level?”
“Right.”
A brief silence passed between them. Helmut remembered the 10th level monster he had defeated.
A giant cockroach. Moreover, a composite type. Small cockroaches gathering to form a gigantic one. The ultimate disgust, embodied. Seeing it would make some scream and faint from the sheer horror and grotesqueness.
As expected of the final stage, its movements were aggressively disgusting. It assembled and disassembled at will, attacking the test subject. Both small and large forms were horrendously terrible, each assuming a horrifying appearance.
The sight of countless antennae and legs of cockroaches scurrying across the floor was, in a different sense, a spectacle.
There were also flying types. With transparent wings vibrating, they rushed forward.
Helmut’s sharp eyesight captured this scene more vividly than anyone else.
Alea, perhaps recalling the same, darkened in complexion. She asked.
“What did you choose for your prize?”
“Oh, the same as you.”
About to answer carelessly, Helmut stopped himself just in time. It was a good pause. Alea didn’t know Helmut was aware of the magic she maintained. She pressed on.
“The same as me?”
“I wondered if there’s an artifact capable of performing cleaning magic. The vacation is coming up.”
Helmut smoothly answered, impressing himself with his quick thinking. An artifact allowing the use of cleaning magic would be very useful for traveling. Most students leave Baden for the vacation. Helmut would do the same, and likely, so would Alea.
Alea suddenly realized something. After returning, her dorm room would change. As the dean said, she would be using a single room. Alea’s expression hardened momentarily.
“…I see.”
To her surprise, Alea found she didn’t want that. Had she grown that accustomed to this guy? The only friend she had made since entering the academy.
Alea couldn’t deny the word ‘friend.’ But she quickly shook off the thought.
‘No need to think about it now.’
The final exams hadn’t even finished. With the results announcement and the vacation still about ten days away, the immediate concern was the exams ahead.
