Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 16 (Part 1):
“Where are the women?”
Erugo asked nervously. Already three women had died. They didn’t go far. They were taken in an instant near the village wall.
Had they ever moved so boldly before? As if knowing Naho would not appear.
Moreover, their numbers had increased.
‘I have a bad feeling about this.’
It seems the demonic beasts instinctively felt Naho’s hibernation was deep this time.
Naho, who had only been in a shallow sleep for the past few years to stabilize the farm, warned Erugo that this hibernation would be deep.
By nature, a snake requires ample hibernation. It was time to replenish since it had slept too little, being preoccupied with the human farm.
There were ways to summon him, but a vicious snake throwing tantrums with magic was too much for even Erugo to handle.
‘If called for a trivial reason, it would swallow me in anger and still remain unsatisfied.’
Minor problems had to be resolved by him.
“The women are now safe. They won’t be able to breach the walls reinforced by Erugo’s magic circle.”
“Lock it up so they can’t even sneak out for a while! We cannot afford to lose more women.”
Erugo commanded.
“If the numbers decrease further, I will reduce the mouths of you useless ones as well! Already breeding is a sin, as no females are born, only males.”
Males were more useful as labor, but Naho preferred human females. There were no women to be given to the monsters.
Erugo clicked his tongue as if tallying livestock.
Then, a giant burst through the door, kneeling before Erugo.
-Thud!
A hoarse voice echoed harshly.
“Lux has been captured! Send a tracking team! Lord Erugo, entrust this to me!”
“If he’s been captured by a monster, he’s already dead. Protect the village, Hans!”
Erugo coldly turned his head.
“But Lux is! My brother!”
The giant stuttered, lifting his head. Flames ignited in his bloodshot eyes.
Lux was his brother. Despite being villainous brothers who committed all sorts of evil deeds, including assault, rape, and murder, enough to be driven into the Forest of Roots, their bond was strong.
After becoming Erugo’s subordinates, the brothers had loyally served him. But to Erugo, that meant nothing.
“So, what do you suggest?”
“I will go and save him!”
Erugo’s eyes narrowed. Every human was used as he saw fit. This was an unacceptable defiance!
Losing Lux was regrettable for Erugo, but removing troops to search for someone already considered dead could lead to more losses. He couldn’t afford such a loss.
“I cannot permit it. Lux was taken. Do you intend to follow and die as well? Along with the others?”
“I’ll go alone if you allow.”
“Hans, you now!”
Anger flared on his experienced face. But Lux was the leader of the warriors. Even if he ordered others to hold him back, would they follow?
He must not give any chance to disobey orders. A small spark could turn into a blaze that engulfs him.
‘This is not good.’
Erugo realized he would lose two of his strongest warriors today. Such misfortune!
‘All because of that useless Lux.’
It was obvious he had been caught off guard. Erugo barely managed a merciful expression, suppressing his rising anger.
“Yes, I’m concerned for you… Well, Lux is your brother, so if you insist, do as you wish.”
Though grinding his teeth internally, Erugo spoke softly and turned away.
“Thank you!”
Hans bowed deeply and then dashed out.
