Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 299 (Part 1):
[Huh? Don’t tell me… You’re afraid of heights?]
Igrelle asked suspiciously. Everyone’s gaze fixed on the back of Elaga’s head.
Elaga gritted its teeth and shouted.
[Who… would be afraid of such a thing.]
But its voice lacked strength.
The trembling in Elaga’s body was growing more intense. Now it was almost shaking uncontrollably.
Even a leopard may enjoy climbing high trees, but not flying through the air.
“Come to think of it, Elaga has never flown before.”
Helmut said as if realizing something.
Though Helmut himself didn’t have much experience flying, he had been fearless since childhood.
Sarah chirped reassuringly.
“Elaga, I-I’m scared too.”
Susan was completely pale and speechless. With only the mages as safety measures, they were soaring towards the sky, exposed to the wind.
Fear of heights is an instinct of land animals. Especially since they were at an altitude where survival would be impossible if they fell.
Being in such dizzying heights with strong winds whipping their entire bodies, their legs trembled involuntarily and their heads spun.
Whether they felt it strongly or weakly, everyone was experiencing some degree of acrophobia.
But for Elaga, it was particularly severe. Igrelle screamed.
[Hey, it hurts! Stop digging in your claws! You’re scratching my feathers!]
As if determined not to fall from here, Elaga had automatically extended its claws. It was fortunate that it didn’t have the presence of mind to unleash its demonic energy.
Elaga’s eyes, which had been growing increasingly unfocused, were now trembling. It was in a state of panic.
Alea calmly spoke up.
“Elaga won’t be able to help break through the barrier in this state.”
Helmut nodded. He placed his hand on the hilt of his sword.
Since they hadn’t counted on Elaga’s participation from the start, it wouldn’t be a problem.
They would break through the barrier by combining Igrelle’s demonic energy with the power of the others. Helmut had fully recovered his Vis. He intended to participate with all his might.
Igrelle, who was soaring towards the sky with heavy burdens piled on its back, complained.
[This big useless leopard! What a waste of all that demonic energy in that dull body!]
But it seemed that Elaga could no longer hear anything.
Alea took out a small metal plate from her hand. When she applied force, light emanating from the metal plate pointed to the convex center of the barrier.
“That’s the spot. Slow down. We’ll synchronize, and when I give the signal, accelerate and break through.”
They were getting closer and closer to their target. The opaque peak of the barrier loomed above them.
What lay beyond was the will of Lumen—a force that had sealed off the Forest of Roots from the world, protecting the land beyond.
But today, that will would be broken for the first time. By them!
“Everyone get ready!”
Alea shouted resolutely.

“You lewd and wicked witch!”
The man bound in chains shouted at Heike with a fierce expression.
The spit he hurled into the air arced across before dropping down.
Heike stretched out her hand and struck the man’s head.
Thwack!
The dull sound didn’t seem like something that would come from a slender hand.
The man’s mouth clamped shut at the pain that shook him to his core.
Heike clicked her tongue in annoyance.
“Where do you get off being so impudent, you mere child. Shall I show you what a lewd and wicked witch really does?”
Even though those who attacked her son were all dead, Heike still harbored resentment towards the temple.
Now that she had a justification, she could kill a few people without any qualms, taking advantage of this opportunity.
However, nearby, Antiol watched with narrowed eyes. No matter how much he was at odds with the temple, he wasn’t the type to commit murder so recklessly.
Despite being declared an enemy of the temple, Antiol prided himself on maintaining a sense of justice.
Heike taunted the eighteen captured priests who knelt before her, bound in chains.
“If any of you want to take your own lives, I’ll permit it. Otherwise, keep your mouths shut if you want to live.”
Of course, no one had enough faith and will to bite their tongues and die. And there wasn’t much reason for them to do so yet.
For now, Heike had only restrained them. She hadn’t tortured or hurt them, as they were merely hostages for her plan.
Turning to Antiol, Heike asked.
“Has the temple received the news?”
“Yes. They’ll have to act soon. They can’t ignore this.”
“What if they don’t respond?”
“That’s possible too, I’ll handle things here. You should head to your next destination.”
The temple would also head towards the southern outskirts of the Forest of Roots to check on the state of the sacred barrier. They only needed to defend that area for a few days.
Since Heike was more specialized in combat than Antiol, it made sense for her to go.
Heike nodded in agreement.
“Very well.”
