Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 307 (Part 1): Greencana
Rodril’s Greencana, Greencana’s Rodril. Without distinguishing which came first, these two proper names have long been known as inseparable.
Greencana is a small village located at the foot of the mountain range. It may appear ordinary at first glance, but among mages who study elemental magic, it was quite well-known as the Village of Spirits.
The most powerful earth spirit in existence resided there. The spirit, possessing its own will, lent power to the elemental mage, in exchange for the mage residing near the mountains, the source of its power. The mage agreed, and settled there.
Greencana was a village inhabited by the descendants of this elemental mage, whose name was Rodril. Rodril became the surname of his descendants.
The Rodril family. A household secretly known as distinguished, even among mages.
It wasn’t because of the honor or influence held as nobles, but because of the unique elemental magic inherited through their bloodline.
Sian, who was explaining this briefly on the way, winked.
“So, my name is Sian Rodril. The earth spirit contracted by our family is said to have the power to destroy nations. That’s why, to avoid being targeted by any particular nation or temple, we Rodril folks keep our identities hidden. Now that I’ve graduated, I can share it.”
“And yet you acted like you were ordinary.”
Asuka grumbled, having been attached to Sian throughout their academy days, and only learning about him today.
It was an unspoken rule among them not to ask each other about their backgrounds.
To hear someone else’s secret, you must also be prepared to share your own. Neither of them had been ready for that until now.
“Pretending to be ordinary, huh? Being an elemental mage is anything but ordinary. What about you?”
“What about me?”
Asuka felt a twinge. Now, he was the only one among them still holding onto a secret.
But he still didn’t want to talk about it. Unlike Sian, he had no sense of belonging or attachment to his family.
‘I’ve graduated from the academy. It’s time I start living my own life.’
He could still visit his mother occasionally to spend some time with her. He seemed to have adapted to his current life somewhat.
“I hid things too, but so did you, Helmut, and Alea. We all kept our secrets, didn’t we? Charlotte being the Grand Duke’s daughter of Renosa is the only thing that got out, right?”
Charlotte opened her eyes wide as if she had no idea.
“Did I become known?”
“Yeah, you participated in the academy competition and all. People aren’t as tight-lipped as you think. The news spread here and there through the Renosa folks. That’s why no one dared approach you. You were quite popular, but you’ve hardly received any confessions, right?”
“That’s true. About two or three per semester?”
“…That’s more than I thought.”
“There are more royals and high-ranking nobles in Greta Academy than one would expect.”
Only those who considered themselves on her level dared approach her. Asuka, overhearing, frowned slightly.
“What’s so great about a girl with such stiff and boring speech? If she had a boyfriend or whatever, she’d beat him up in a sparring match.”
Sian answered simply.
“They must have the same eyes as you.”
“What nonsense is that!”
“Why would I beat up my boyfriend? I’d treat him well.”
Charlotte responded earnestly, causing Asuka, who was fuming, to suddenly fall silent.
‘Even though he’s grown physically, his mind is still like a child’s. How’s he ever going to progress in a relationship like this?’
Sian sighed, and as if doing them all a favor, changed the subject.
“By the way, Charlotte, what about the academy? You still have a year left, right?”
“I’ve taken a leave of absence. I only need one more semester to graduate early, whenever that may be. I don’t really need to graduate. For me, an environment to continually compete and improve myself is what matters, not a diploma.”
It was a statement befitting the Duchess of Renosa.
Indeed, the swordsmanship department valued skill over anything else. If you had the skills, an academy diploma meant nothing.
That’s why quite a few people dropped out before finishing.
“Well, in your case, sure.”
Sian glanced briefly at Helmut.
“Anyway, we hardly knew anything about each other. It was the same with Helmut. That’s why I decided I should share my story.”
Despite not knowing much about each other, they still managed to maintain their friendship. It was, in its own way, a peculiar and special relationship.
But one thing was certain. Even though four years had passed, they all still felt the same about each other as when they attended the academy.
Seemingly shallow, yet deep. Seemingly light, yet heavy. As if bound by threads of fate.
The bonds formed at Greta Academy—no one knew how they would develop in the future.
But even if it was a rough path, they all knew none of them would stray from it.
“My story is going to be a bit special, too.”
Sian smiled as he looked ahead. It was a gentle yet mischievous smile.
They’d soon find out, but Greencana wasn’t just an ordinary village.
