Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 308 (Part 2):
Villagers were starting to emerge, glancing curiously at the group.
While the people of Greencana might not be untrustworthy, he was with companions who didn’t want to attract attention. Being a spectacle was not desirable.
“Your mother may be coming, but who are these people?”
“This is Helmut, this is Alea, this is Asuka…”
Sian quickly introduced his companions to Azer, pointing to each one by one and only mentioning their names.
Of course, he omitted Elaga, who was a cat.
Elaga sat on Helmut’s shoulder, mewing discontentedly. He was a perfect cat that no one could suspect.
His fur looked particularly white next to Helmut, whose head and eyes were all dark.
Fortunately for Azer, being with such eye-catching individuals meant he didn’t have the chance to pay attention to that cat.
“This is Igrelle.”
While the others slightly bowed their heads in greeting, Igrelle stepped forward when it was her turn.
She looked down at Azer with arrogant eyes and asked.
“Hello, what’s your name?”
Azer looked at Igrelle, who was confidently addressing him informally despite being his son’s companion, with disbelieving eyes.
“My, what an ill-mannered young lady! You look so young, why are your manners like that?”
Sian quickly added.
“She’s not really a friend.”
“Young?”
Igrelle burst into laughter.
“That’s what I should be saying to you, child.”
“C-Child?”
“Yes, even you mages find it difficult to judge age just by looking, don’t you?”
Azer’s expression hardened as he carefully observed the gorgeous beauty before him.
He was a fairly skilled spirit mage.
Although not skilled enough to see through Heike’s magic, he finally noticed that something was off. Wariness flashed in Azer’s eyes.
“…But you’re not an ordinary mage. Strange, this energy… Who are you?”
“My name is Igrelle. Haven’t you heard of me in the human world?”
Igrelle’s red eyes emitted a strange light. It was a gaze that somehow felt dangerous.
Just as Azer was about to summon a spirit, a voice was heard from behind.
“Step back, Azer.”
“Terra.”
A woman with a gentle impression, looking exactly like Sian, was standing there.
Unlike Azer or Sian, who were also spirit mages, the woman was different.
The vague, enormous, and heavy energy emanating from her. As if some transcendent being was guarding her back.
Some of those present immediately recognized it.
‘So she’s the Rodril who contracted with the earth spirit.’
Azer stood beside her with a stiff face. The Rodril who contracted with the earth spirit is Terra.
Terra made eye contact with Sian. She rebuked him in a low voice.
“Sian, I won’t blame you for disappearing leaving only a letter. But I can’t believe you’ve brought such danger to Greencana! You should have told me in advance, at least!”
Sian scratched his head with a troubled expression.
“Mother, please listen to me.”
Sian had his reasons. He was accompanied by beings beyond common sense.
Seeing was believing—trying to convince her with words alone would be nearly impossible.
After all, the Rodril tended to not tolerate any danger to this Greencana protected by the earth spirit.
Sian decided to act first and explain later. He thought of it with the same mindset as picking up a cat on the street.
Though his thinking was simple, he had his reasons. Reasons why these companions needed to face his mother.
Igrelle shrugged her shoulders.
“Human woman. There’s no need to get unnecessarily excited. I don’t eat humans, after all.”
“A demonic beast in this Greencana. And an intelligent one at that! In all my life, I’ve never seen a demonic beast in human form, speaking human language. Where did this demonic beast come from, and why is it with you?”
Terra pressed with a stern face. She now seemed to be wary of even Sian. Beside her, Azer asked with a tense expression.
“A demonic beast? Not a dark mage?”
“I can sense a distorted essence. That form is not real. Tremendously condensed demonic energy. I’ve never encountered a being like this!”
“It’s the magic of someone called an Archmage, it’s quite impressive. But you see through it well, human woman.”
Energy rose from Terra threateningly. Her suspicion deepened.
“An Archmage helped a demonic beast? If it’s an artifact, is it Heike? What is the Archmage planning with this creature?”
“Igrelle…”
‘You said you wouldn’t cause any trouble!’ Sian looked at Igrelle with eyes that said to keep her mouth shut. He had planned to reveal things gradually, but to create such tension from the start.
‘This bird-brain can’t be trusted.’
Even in the Forest of Roots, hadn’t she pretended to cooperate with them only to exploit them for her own benefit?
One shouldn’t trust a being who doesn’t hesitate to use any means necessary for their own purposes.
Igrelle tilted her head with interest.
“But human woman, it seems only I appear as a demonic beast to your eyes.”
[Indeed.]
Elaga opened his mouth wide and yawned as if bored. Terra’s expression hardened even more upon witnessing the talking cat.
“So, it’s not just one, but two.”
And soon her gaze shifted to Helmut.
“Three? No. You are…”
“Mother, they’re not dangerous people. If they were dangerous, I wouldn’t have brought them. For now, let’s move to a different place.”
Sian nodded towards the gathering villagers.
Terra stared intensely at Sian’s eyes as if trying to read his intentions.
Finally, she spoke.
“Very well.”
