Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 312 (Part 1):
A short period of peaceful and cozy village life began.
It was a simple life, but for some, the daily life of humans remained unfamiliar.
Most of Helmut’s extraordinary companions were not accustomed to this simplicity.
Only Sian, who had returned home, seemed at ease, enjoying his usual life.
Greencana was a small village.
Even though Rodril was a spirit mage and wealthier than most, it was unlikely that such a small village would have a large mansion capable of accommodating many guests—that was the natural assumption.
As expected, Sian’s house was not big. It was a small three-story mansion.
However, neither Sian nor his parents seemed burdened by the number of guests. Soon, the group would understand why.
“Well then, shall we prepare a place for our guests to rest?”
No sooner had Terra said those words than two huts appeared in the wide, empty space next to the house.
No, they grew. Houses sprouted overnight. It was a mystical yet amazing sight.
When Terra planted seeds in the yard and summoned the spirits, vines shot up from the ground.
The sturdy wooden vines grew while intertwining with each other, meeting at the ceiling, and became solid huts without any gaps.
The huts were quite spacious, living huts made of wood.
Though they might not be ideal for long-term living, they would suffice for a month’s stay. The bathroom was attached to Sian’s house, so that could be used as needed.
Alea spoke seriously.
“You could run a lodging business.”
“A mage never starves, especially not a spirit mage!”
Terra, responding cheerfully, winked at the guests.
“I’ve placed everything you need inside. Feel free to divide the huts among yourselves as you see fit. I hope everyone enjoys a comfortable stay. Breakfast is at nine. I’ll leave the food in the kitchen, so if you miss it, help yourselves!”
They would likely gather promptly at nine. After all, everyone here was used to a systematic dormitory lifestyle.
Once she disappeared, Sian waved with a smile.
“Well, I’ll be off too. Don’t worry about anything. I’ll summon a light spirit in front of the house, so call if you need help!”
Now, it was time for the group to allocate rooms.
“I’ll take this one,” Alea said, pointing to the hut farthest from Sian’s house.
“Ah, then me too.”
Naturally, Helmut, who intended to share the hut with Alea, hesitated when Charlotte gave him a strange look. She asked firmly,
“Shouldn’t I, as a woman, share the hut with Senior Alea?”
It seemed that Terra had arranged the two huts with the assumption that they would be used based on gender. Asuka chimed in with a teasing comment.
“Exactly! Helmut, are you still stuck in the past? Back when you shared a room with Alea, she was in her male form.”
“Ah.”
Helmut made a sound as if he’d just realized.
Ever since then, Alea had been firmly embedded in Helmut’s mind as his roommate.
“You sneaky rascal. You shouldn’t try to make a honeymoon house here. It’d be troublesome if you had a baby at your friend’s house, especially when you’re not even married.”
Asuka’s teasing earned him a shock.
“Ow! That hurts!”
Sparks crackled from Alea’s hand. She had cast a magic attack without even a chant.
Her violet eyes glinted coldly. Asuka shouted in protest.
“You ill-mannered witch, using attack magic on people!”
But Alea didn’t even spare him a glance as she entered the hut, as if he wasn’t worth her time. Charlotte responded icily.
“He deserved it.”
“…”
Asuka, feeling deflated, fell silent. Igrelle clicked her tongue and followed Charlotte, who had already turned her back.
“I suppose I belong on this side too, since I’m a woman.”
After all, Igrelle was a demonic beast that couldn’t be left alone. If she shared a hut with Alea, Alea could keep an eye on her.
“The rest of us will take this one then.”
Helmut calmly entered the other hut where the three women had gone. Elaga sat perched on his shoulder as if glued there.
Trying to balance things out, Elaga occasionally switched between Helmut’s left and right shoulder, but his place was always there.
Inside the spacious hut, the floor was covered with a wide carpet, and it smelled of fresh wood. It was so soothing that anyone feeling unwell would feel at peace.
In one corner were thick mats and a few blankets that would serve as beds, along with baskets containing daily necessities.
“The location’s close to the mountains. It feels like we’re in a training ground,” Asuka muttered as he followed Helmut inside. Elaga, who had scanned the room, grumbled.
[This place is the size of a nostril. How could anyone live in such a cramped space?]
“You’re small now too, Elaga.”
[Yes, I’m small. So small I could fit into a basket you couldn’t even dream of entering!]
Ever since Elaga had shrunk, he took every opportunity to boast about his size.
Having spent his entire life as a large, intimidating white leopard, it seemed he now took a strange liking to his newfound cuteness.
Once a magnificent and awe-inspiring white leopard, Elaga was now a fluffy, adorable cat.
And it seemed, unexpectedly, that he preferred the latter.
Helmut responded dryly.
“…I’m not particularly keen on fitting into a basket.”
No matter how cute Elaga had become, Helmut preferred his larger form.
Now, with Elaga constantly riding on his shoulder and making things difficult, he found it quite annoying.
Elaga, in a dismissive tone, said,
[You poor thing, not knowing the comfort of snuggling into a round basket. Anyway, you go ahead and use this leafy hut. I’m going outside to sleep.]
With that, Elaga leapt off Helmut’s shoulder. Being a demonic beast, Elaga liked to roam freely. Staying cooped up in a small hut would have been too stifling for him.
Helmut watched the white cat trot off and called out to him.
“Don’t pick any fights.”
Elaga snorted.
[Fights only happen when both sides are equally matched. Do you really think I’d waste my time on humans?]
And just like that, Elaga disappeared. With almost nothing to worry about in this peaceful place, Elaga planned to enjoy his life as a cat to the fullest.
