Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 315 (Part 2):
“But Rodril has never been subservient to any king. Unless they want to bring a massive disaster upon their nation, provoking a Spirit Mage wouldn’t benefit Veneta. And there’s no pressing reason for Veneta to need the power of a Spirit Mage, is there? As far as I know, the kingdom’s climate is stable; there haven’t been any large-scale droughts or floods in recent years.”
“Perhaps it’s the overreaching ambition of the newly crowned King of Veneta, who wants to place even Rodril beneath him. Or… it’s frustrating. We know so little about their internal affairs or recent developments in Veneta.”
Sian clicked his tongue and shook his head:
“Who asked you to help? Just think about eating and relaxing here and leave it at that. With the demonic beasts, the Temple’s enemies, the Duchess of Renosa, and everything else, you know things could get even more complicated, right?”
“Even talking with you gets tiresome.”
“It might be better if you don’t get involved. Honestly, the real problem here is you. You’d be the first to step in and provoke that cunning King of Veneta to the point where he loses his mind.”
“What did you say, you…!”
Asuka raised his fist. As they bickered, Helmut stood beside Alea. His low voice reached her ears.
“I have a card I can play regarding Veneta.”
Alea immediately looked at Helmut. Her violet eyes shone brightly.
“Are you talking about Hawk Eye?”
Talon of Hawk Eye had promised to provide him with information three times. Helmut had used two of those opportunities. But he still had one left. His last chance to utilize Hawk Eye’s information network.
Alea immediately dismissed the idea.
“It’s too dangerous.”
To obtain information, he would have to contact Hawk Eye. And right here in Greencana, no less!
If Hawk Eye discovered Helmut’s survival, if that information somehow leaked and reached Renosa or the Temple… She couldn’t imagine anything good coming of it.
Hawk Eye wasn’t a friendly organization to begin with. If anything, they were his enemies.
“Hawk Eye doesn’t know about my connection to Renosa yet. They don’t know who I am.”
“They could’ve figured it out by now. Since you disappeared, if they’ve inquired around Greta Academy, they’d have learned that Helmut, the top second-year student in swordsmanship, vanished without a trace—and that his trail was last seen in Renosa. You’re already a person of interest to them.”
Why did Helmut disappear in Renosa? What was the meaning of the two pieces of information he took?
Information about Basor and Renosa. The clues were too scarce to connect those seemingly isolated pieces of information.
But it wasn’t impossible for Hawk Eye to make a deduction close to the truth.
At the very least, they would likely know who Helmut’s enemies were.
“Information organizations aren’t scary because they possess a lot of information. They’re scary because they can compile that information and derive new information. There’s no need to reveal your location to those who aren’t on your side. Especially when you have so many enemies.”
“We’ll hold off on Hawk Eye. But we can’t just stay here doing nothing.”
Now that a hostage had been taken, if the situation continued as it was, Greencana would soon face significant trouble. Terra and Azer didn’t seem like pushovers. The idea of simply relaxing here and leaving was wrong.
He couldn’t simply ignore this and leave; Sian, too, wouldn’t be free from this situation as well as Rodril. Helmut owed Sian a debt. Helping him was the right thing to do.
Helmut spoke again.
“They seem to know something about us, but we know nothing about them. We need information, whether it’s through Hawk Eye or some other means.”
Alea suggested,
“How about telling Sian’s mother that we’ll investigate King Veneta and go there ourselves?”
In a large city, they should be able to pick up some news. They could learn about the political situation in the Kingdom of Veneta.
The capital, where the King resided, was quite far from Greencana, but he remembered a decent-sized city about halfway there. Helmut nodded.
“Let’s go there.”
“We’d be grateful if you could do that.”
Terra and Azer agreed immediately once Helmut brought it up.
They hadn’t expected Helmut and his companions to directly confront and defeat the Kingdom of Veneta.
The offer to assess the situation and gather information was a burden they could bear.
Now they had to decide on the personnel. Helmut and Alea naturally wanted to go alone…
“Just the two of you? Leaving us stuck in this boring countryside village!”
Asuka protested vehemently.
“I would be a helpful addition.”
Charlotte’s unsubstantiated claim resulted in their group growing larger.
Now the two demonic beasts were the problem. Leaving them behind or bringing them along both seemed risky.
They had been relatively quiet, but the problem was that they could cause trouble at any moment. Demonic beasts were inherently unreliable.
However, he couldn’t force them to come along, so the choice was theirs.
Igrelle made an unexpected decision.
“I’ll stay. I’ll protect Greencana.”
She seemed more interested in the potential events that might unfold in Greencana. On the other hand, Elaga promptly hopped onto Helmut’s shoulder.
[Of course I’m going with you. Where do you think you’re going, weakling?]
“Elaga. You can’t reveal your true form in the city.”
[Like I would? I’m not a dimwitted human like you, am I?]
“…”
Helmut felt the urge to fling the cat off his shoulder.
But in any case, the group was decided.
