Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 326 (Part 1):
‘The day of reckoning has come.’
Teresa, dressed in royal mage attire, had a gleam in her eyes.
Although the king’s lukewarm response worried her, he didn’t oppose what she intended to do. It would all be over soon.
Before Teresa’s visit, a letter had arrived in Greencana.
A soldier from the Kingdom of Veneta rode in to deliver it.
When he visited Rodril, the villagers were filled with wariness.
A letter stating she would visit in the afternoon – in other words, it was a noble’s way of announcing that they should prepare to receive the king’s envoy.
Greencana prepared for her arrival. There wasn’t much to arrange.
Alea and Helmut finally learned the identity of the Fidelis mage who was visiting. Alea laughed in disbelief.
“Teresa. That senior was a Fidelis? No wonder she kept trying to avoid me.”
Her gaze toward Sian was as cold as ice, as if just mentioning that name was unpleasant. Sian waved his hands dismissively.
“Don’t get too excited and kill her or anything. It’s ancient history, right?”
Helmut, who had attended Greta Academy long ago, just tilted his head.
“I’ve heard that name somewhere… Was she in the magic department?”
His attitude strangely calmed Alea’s mood.
“Well, yeah. It’s old history. She probably won’t even recognize me.”
As long as she maintained her transformation magic, there was no way Teresa Fidelis could recognize her. Alea’s magic skills far surpassed Teresa’s.
Just then, Igrelle, who had been resting her chin on her hand, spoke up.
“Well, well, now things are getting interesting, aren’t they?”
She had been tormenting Sian for days but had grown bored again. Since Sian was sticking close to Terra, it wasn’t easy to mess with him.
Terra firmly told Igrelle:
‘Sian has refused, and you should respect his decision.’
It was clear that neither Terra nor Azer wanted a demonic beast as a daughter-in-law. Igrelle, only teasing out of boredom, could easily let it go now.
After pondering this new situation for a moment, she spoke as if finding something strange.
“But aren’t you guys being too soft about this? This Teresa Fidelis or whatever is the king of Veneta’s subordinate, right? Since they took one of your villagers hostage, we should take her hostage too. Simple!”
Igrelle clapped her hands together as if she’d just had the most brilliant idea. There was some logic to her words in a way.
Sian shook his head.
“That’s just asking for a fight.”
“But wouldn’t she have more value as a hostage? We’re talking about just one villager on your side, but on theirs, it’s the daughter of some high-ranking duke, isn’t it? They wouldn’t have any choice but to negotiate.”
Igrelle was quite clever when it came to these kinds of schemes. Elaga agreed.
[Hearing it now, it makes sense. When she comes, just take her hostage!]
“That would only escalate things. Even if we did exchange hostages, the Kingdom of Veneta would become completely hostile toward us. They’re a kingdom – they can harass this small village in all sorts of underhanded ways. Just because they acted dishonorably doesn’t mean we should do the same. There must be a better solution.”
Igrelle crossed her arms.
“I don’t understand why the stronger side has to show restraint.”
[True.]
Elaga nodded in agreement.
If someone weaker dared to rise against you, you should crush them so they never dared again. Make them regret it deeply.
But a nation’s power was different from individual power, and they had the weakness that they couldn’t afford to lose even a single person here.
“Please, just stay quiet. If all goes well, we might even get to visit the royal palace.”
Sian sighed deeply as he tried to calm the group.
As long as Igrelle didn’t do anything rash, there wasn’t anyone likely to cause trouble. Finally, Igrelle nodded.
“Fine, whatever.”
Helmut and Alea decided to watch quietly while maintaining their transformed appearances. For now, it was right to follow the opinion of Sian, the owner of the house.
