Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 359 (Part 2):
Ethan Kudrow shook his head slightly.
“The Grand Duke took notice that I was searching for you, who had gone missing in Renosa. He asked why I was so diligently looking for one student. I told him I had been sponsoring you. Then he asked about you. So I…”
Just as new words were about to flow from his mouth, a loud noise echoed from outside. The sound of hooves clattered noisily.
“Sarah! You can slow down! Why are you driving the horse so recklessly?”
“Who’s here? The lights are on in the reception room.”
Following Susan’s scolding, Sarah’s sharp deduction followed. Their voices were vivid even from a distance.
The atmosphere for further conversation was gone.
Ethan stood up first.
“They’re back, it seems. Let’s go meet them first.”
Elaga, who had already jumped off Helmut’s lap, was already running ahead.
Helmut found himself wondering if Elaga saw these humans he once cared for as his own offspring, or as pets.
Regardless, Helmut followed him. In the foyer, Susan and Sarah were taking their baggage off the horse.
Susan could be seen hounding Sarah with complaints.
“Sarah! Put it down gently! You’ll break something!”
“Eh, come on, being careful takes forever. Why won’t this knot come loose?”
Suddenly, Sarah’s gaze turned sharply. Sensing Helmut’s presence, her eyes widened as she turned her head.
“Helmut!”
Susan also noticed him belatedly.
“Helmut! How are you here so soon?”
[Can’t you see me?]
Elaga grumbled at ground level, disgruntled that he was the one who had actually been taking care of them all this time.
He had approached them before Helmut.
“Aah, Elaga! I still can’t get used to that form.”
Sarah reached out and picked up Elaga. It hadn’t been long enough for Helmut to embrace her in a joyful reunion, and they weren’t that close anyway.
Elaga meowed, clearly enjoying it as Sarah scratched his chin.
‘He’s really become a cat now.’
Helmut, thinking this, looked at Susan and spoke.
“You seem to be doing well.”
Both she and Sarah had gained color in their cheeks. They looked healthier than when they were in the dimly lit Forest of Roots.
Of course, Sarah had always been healthy, so the change was more noticeable in Susan.
“Yes, very much so. Instructor Ethan has been taking wonderful care of us. This mansion is truly a pleasant place. Thank you for the letter. I didn’t think we’d see you again this soon,” Susan said, smiling broadly.
“I had some business in Baden,” Helmut replied.
“Sarah’s still training hard. She’s fired up, saying she’ll achieve better results than you at Greta Academy.”
‘That’s impossible.’
At Greta Academy, Helmut was the top of the swordsmanship department.
The top is first place. There’s no better result than first.
Helmut didn’t point that out.
Susan smiled brightly at Helmut.
“Anyway, I’m glad to see you again.”
Then she noticed Alea walking up behind him and flinched slightly.
Alea gave a short greeting.
“Hello.”
“Yes, hello. Alea, you’re as beautiful as ever.”
“Thank you.”
An awkward and brief exchange followed. Alea didn’t seem to mind, but the relationship wasn’t exactly comfortable.
Just then, the horse that had been unloaded shook its head. Whinny!
“Huh? This horse…”
The horse looked familiar. It seemed to recognize Helmut too, huffing out a breath.
Helmut approached the horse and reached out his hand. Suddenly, his mouth opened.
“White?”
Helmut was surprised he remembered the horse’s name.
He’d received it as a reward for a commission when he first came to Baden. Later, when he traveled to Renosa by carriage, he left the horse behind.
During that time, White had been looked after at Ethan Kudrow’s mansion.
“You’re still alive, huh.”
As if understanding, White snorted and shook off Helmut’s hand.
The horse glared at Helmut, its temper still intact.
Alea gave him a mild rebuke.
“A horse’s lifespan isn’t that short. It’s not like you were gone for decades.”
“…Right.”
Among the things Helmut had left behind, some remained just as they were—ready for him to reclaim if he chose. This horse was one of them.
Before he could indulge in any deeper sentimentality, Ethan showed up and interrupted.
“That horse belongs to Sarah now.”
“I even gave it a new name. Its name is Cream now!”
Cream or White, it’s all the same. Helmut thought Sarah had a naming sense similar to his.
He protested briefly.
“But it’s my horse.”
“You left it, and I’ve been feeding and caring for it, so I have the rights.”
“Yes, it’s mine now!”
Sarah strongly protested. Helmut had no choice but to give up the ownership of the horse he thought he had regained.
After all, the horse, now named Cream, seemed to like Sarah more than Helmut.
