Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 37 (Part 2):
Emotions like fear, anger, and sorrow gave strength to the demonic beast.
Grinning, the monkey demonic beast grabbed a human flailing against the wall.
A pitiful creature that couldn’t resist and had to watch death approach.
Sympathy? The beast felt none. The monkey demonic beast shoved the trembling human body into its mouth, starting with the head.
The pulsing heartbeat was felt on its tongue. Crunching down, rich blood burst forth, moistening its mouth.
Crunch, munch. The fragile bones mixed with the flesh under its powerful jaw, creating a satisfying blend.
This harmony inside its mouth brought deep satisfaction to the monkey demonic beast.
The two humans left in the carriage were stupefied by the tragedy unfolding in the air.
Now only two were left. The monkey demonic beast regretted the meat it had thrown to its subordinates.
Human flesh was an uncommon delicacy. After tasting human flesh once, it could not forget the flavor.
The forest it lived in was isolated from the human world, but occasionally, it welcomed guests like these.
This time, it encountered numerous and formidable guests, but in return, it feasted to its fill.
Chewing on the contents of its mouth, the monkey demonic beast spit out a foreign object.
A bloody, tattered mix of clothing and shoes.
Swallowing a human, the monkey demonic beast quietly observed the inside of the box.
The most unimpressive, feeble human meat remained inside. This one seemed tastier than the others.
Reaching for a younger human, it was careful not to let it die before being eaten.
What would be the best way to eat this one? It pondered for a moment.
“Put that down.”
Chills ran down its spine. The monkey demonic beast immediately screamed.
-Kieeeeeek!
“Quiet.”
Helmut, who had approached right next to the demonic beast, frowned. Although he blocked the magical waves, his eardrums still buzzed.
‘Suppressing my presence and approaching works.’
Such a demonic beast could not detect his approach. Pleased with the outcome, Helmut felt good.
No, his mood began to improve from the moment he drew his sword. A smile formed on Helmut’s lips.
He had come here first just in case. Members of the Pace Mercenary Corps would arrive soon as well.
But their help wasn’t needed. He could finish this before they even got here.
‘Five minutes? That should be enough.’
Helmut commanded the monkey demonic beast arrogantly while looking at it.
“I told you to put it down.”
There was no reason to show mercy to the one who had stolen from him. After all, Phien had mentioned that the corpse of a demonic beast of this size could be worth a fortune.
There were countless reasons to kill it and no reason not to.
-Kieeee.
The monkey demonic beast sensed Helmut’s intent to kill.
A strong human. Having witnessed the scenes of his subordinates being slaughtered by the grayish Vis emanating from him, the demonic beast realized it should not provoke him.
So it chose to flee and prey on other humans.
But the monkey demonic beast was now intoxicated with human flesh, in a weak state of excitement that robbed it of its judgment.
Slightly squeezing the human it held, it exerted force in its arm.
Whoosh! The human body was hurled directly at Helmut. Helmut easily sidestepped, avoiding it.
Crash! The human body collided with the ground, rolling several times before coming to a stop. Whether it was dead or alive was anyone’s guess.
Dodging the attack, Helmut drew his sword.
A grayish Vis covered the sword’s blade.
Before, he had been too eager to show off his skills, resulting in an excessive discharge.
Fighting efficiently. Without unnecessarily extending his Vis, he wrapped a single layer around the blade to maximize its sharpness.
Darien’s sword had the effect of tearing through magic on its own.
With Vis added, there was no way for the demonic beast in front of him to block Helmut’s sword with its bare body.
Flesh would be torn, and bones would be cut. Helmut’s eyes flashed coldly.
“If you wanted to live, you shouldn’t have shown yourself again.”
It wasn’t like he had the leisure to chase down and kill every one of them. He would have left them be otherwise.
The monkey demonic beast bared its teeth, igniting magic in its blunt nails.
The tables had turned completely. The reaper’s blade had changed direction.
Humans and demonic beasts, demonic beasts and humans.
The one who had been devouring humans until moments ago was now the prey, and Helmut was the hunter. This was an unchangeable absolute truth.
‘Let’s enjoy this a bit.’
It would take only a minute to end its life. Four minutes remained.
This was the strongest opponent he had faced in the human world so far. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to warm up a bit?
Humming to himself, Helmut swung his sword.
Clang! Clang! Each time the black nails charged with magic collided with the sword, they were chipped away, eventually bleeding.
Despite bleeding from the fingertips, the demonic beast swung its arms with terrifying strength.
This small human, why wasn’t he being overpowered? It didn’t make sense. The outburst of energy wasn’t even that great!
Vis granted transcendent power. Despite the vast difference in strength, Helmut wasn’t pushed back at all.
-Kieeee!
Feeling the crisis, the demonic beast raised its voice. It seemed ready to fight alongside its minions, as those tearing apart the corpses of the Tariq Mercenary Corps members gathered, eyes ablaze.
Helmut casually surveyed his surroundings.
‘Cleaning up all the ones here should tidy things up nicely.’
For a while, this forest would be peaceful. It wasn’t far from the Forest of Roots and was a topography conducive to gathering magic, so it would likely be reconquered by demonic beasts eventually.
‘This time, let’s kill them without leaving any marks.’
Damaging them would reduce their value. It seemed he could harvest quite a number of demonic beast corpses.
Facing the demonic beasts charging at him with bared teeth, Helmut moved as if dancing.
He tread lightly on the ground, smoothly moving left, right, forwards, or backwards. His movements were so swift that his figure appeared to overlap with itself.
Large, rough movements were inefficient. Attacks were dodged, and lives were taken in the openings found.
Good swordsmanship achieves the greatest efficiency with the least effort.
The swordsmanship that Helmut had honed over four years was fully displayed here.
Snap! Squeal! Screech! One by one, each that leaped at him died.
Targeting the neck was the most effective way to end a life, Helmut had realized. He strictly aimed for the neck.
Hitting elsewhere would enlarge the wound, reducing the value of the corpse.
