A tremendous vibration shook the floor, accompanied by a deafening noise.

Levina, in the act of standing, staggered for a moment. Regaining her balance, she shouted.

“What’s happening outside?”

An earthquake? But in that moment, she sensed something.

Far off, a massive wave of demonic energy struck the temple’s barrier.

A mountain-like mass of demonic energy. Its malevolent presence sent chills through her body.

From a distance, a priest’s urgent cry echoed.

“Lady Levina, it’s an attack by a demonic beast!”

At such a time, what kind of demonic beast? The timing was too perfect. At this very moment, when the temple’s forces were all but gone!

Levina swiftly grasped the staff planted beside the altar. It was a sacred artifact of Lumen.

Without her, a High Priest, they could not face this demonic beast.

A new trial had begun.

* * *

It had happened just minutes earlier.

“This place will do.”

In a suitable spot near the temple, thick with trees, Alea set Elaga down.

The moment her words fell, Elaga’s form, now on the ground, began to change.

The artifact’s effect faded, and the white cat exploded into growth.

His true form, which had struck terror into the demonic beasts of the Forest of Roots, was nothing short of fearsome.

“Grrrr.”

A leopard the size of a house, with demonic energy surging ominously from its body. Anyone faint-hearted would collapse at the sight of him baring his gleaming white teeth and growling.

Reclaiming his true form after so long, Elaga let out a mighty roar.

“Kraaaang!”

The air trembled, and the surroundings shook with the roar laden with demonic energy. Birds in the trees fled in a frantic flutter.

“Do give a warning before doing that.”

Alea, hastily shielding herself within a barrier, plugged her ears and frowned. The sudden gust nearly blew her away.

But Elaga seemed not to hear.

[What a refreshing feeling. A demonic beast should live as a demonic beast.]

Hiding and deceiving himself was not his nature. What did it matter if humans feared and opposed him? He was a demonic beast.

Elaga, as if stretching, raked the ground with his clawed forepaw, leaving a deep furrow as though dug by a shovel.

Without even testing his strength, he was a being capable of causing calamity with the slightest movement.

The holy power surrounding him, far from purging his demonic energy, was overwhelmed and scattered.

The temple itself was a massive sacred artifact. But it paled in comparison to Lumen’s most powerful sacred barrier.

To Elaga, the temple’s barrier felt like a thin sheet of paper.

No one here could stop him. Not unless Lumen Himself descended.

“Go wild to your heart’s content. After all, only small fry remain here. You can storm the center and wreak havoc if you like.”

Alea stepped back in one swift motion. She would now conceal herself and observe.

Elaga’s assault needed to appear as an inexplicable disaster.

“When I tell you to retreat, just retreat.”

Once word of this reached them, the main force would return.

They would leave before that happened.

But before then, he would make a spectacle of smashing this temple.

As thoroughly as possible.

As a result, the temple would come to a stark realization. They were no longer an absolute authority, and their power and influence were not unassailable.

Clinging to a fading cause, they would feel their strength slowly wane.

And that was just. They could protect the world from demons but not dominate humanity.

It would take time for a new order to be established.

Helmut was not the only one with a reason to seek vengeance against the temple.

Alea, who had lost her parents, harbored more than enough resentment.

No matter how cold-hearted a mage she was, she could not forget those helpless, tragic childhood days.

Thus, this degree of revenge was something they would have to endure.

[Alright, here I go!]

Crouching briefly, Elaga launched himself forward with a powerful leap.

*Kung! Kung! Kung!* Each time he sprang and landed, the ground quaked, and the surroundings trembled.

It was as if an earthquake had struck.

Alea watched the scene with a detached gaze.

*Kwakwang!* With a single body slam, Elaga shattered both the temple’s barrier and its wall, charging inside.

The once-silent temple erupted as if set ablaze. Soon, shouts and screams filled the air.

Even if all the High Priests were present, they could not stop Elaga, but regrettably, only one or two remained in the temple now.

‘There’s probably nothing for me to help with.’

Still, the temple was the temple. There might be other tricks up their sleeve.

Just in case, Alea altered her appearance and stealthily approached the temple.

Climbing over the crumbled wall, she slipped inside.

Elaga’s roars and the chaos he caused grew louder, assaulting her eardrums. It was truly deafening.

“Kraaaaaang!”

Roaring without restraint, Elaga tore through the temple in a straight line.

In the Forest of Roots, the center had been his domain, and now he naturally burrowed toward the temple’s heart.

The temple was a work of art, a historic relic.

Though not ostentatiously grand, it was elegant, with every wall and floor adorned with intricate patterns and carvings crafted by artisans.

But what did a demonic beast care for such things?

The temple, built with wealth that could bankrupt a nation, didn’t even register in his eyes.

All he felt was the irritating holy energy saturating the surroundings!

*Kwagang! Kwang! Kwajangchang!* Elaga gleefully smashed everything his paws touched, laying waste to the temple.

Vast wealth was being obliterated in an instant.

Those foolish enough to charge at him were swatted away with a flick of his tail.

Whether they lived or died, none returned.

Humans weren’t boomerangs, after all.
