Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 471 (Part 1):
Dawn broke. Even in the Forest of Roots, thick with demonic energy, day and night existed.
In the faint light filtering in, they rose from their spots one by one.
Clear eyes that hadn’t lost their strength. They had come to the Forest of Roots risking their lives.
Now that their goal was right before them, their will had only grown stronger.
Levina let out a deep sigh.
For her, a noble high priest, this was the first time experiencing such camping, pulling out a sleeping bag and lying on the bare ground.
But having expended her holy power once the previous day, she had collapsed into sleep last night and slept sweetly despite the uncomfortable bed.
As she tried to get up, Levant extended his hand toward her.
“Levina, how is your body faring?”
“I’m fine, Levant. Thank you for your concern.”
Rising with his support, Levina quietly observed Levant’s condition.
Lumen might have foreseen this incident and chosen the owner of the holy sword.
Levant was Lumen’s first sword. Possessing talent and skill worthy of selection. As a holy knight, he was unparalleled.
‘Though he’s a bit stubborn and principled, that’s a flaw.’
With time, he would soften.
And he would grow into a talent supporting the temple, shining Lumen’s name.
But that was after surviving.
Levina’s eyes shone clearly.
“Levant, are you mentally prepared?”
“Of course. I will assist you, Levina, with my life.”
From the answering Levant, only strong will was felt.
The cause of fighting in accordance with Lumen’s will instilled in him a fearless resolve.
That simplicity was his great advantage.
Levina shook her head.
“No. In the upcoming battles, you need to focus on confronting the enemy rather than me. There might come moments when you can’t look back at me. That means don’t overdo it then.”
“Levina.”
Levina’s clear voice rang out.
“You must focus on surviving yourself and achieving our goal rather than protecting me. Your life is too young to perish here. Your life is more valuable than my old one.”
Though she appeared as a young woman, Levina was over 80 years old.
Because high priests can maintain youth until the moment of death.
Levant spoke solemnly, as if taking a test.
“Dying in battle facing the holy war is a holy knight’s glory.”
“However, there are duties that only young holy knights can bear. Anyway…… I hope you stay safe.”
“Yes, Levina. I understand what you mean. I will strive not to cause you worry.”
That overly sincere answer was not what Levina wanted. It seemed her intention wasn’t getting through.
For the first time, Levina was gripped by a sensation similar to what others felt about temple people.
Probably the first and last sensation in her life.
Cutting through the warm atmosphere, Elaga’s voice flew in.
[Stop chattering boring stuff and let’s prepare to go slowly.]
[Humans have weak stamina. Haven’t you rested enough? I want to fight quickly.]
Baharek grumbled as if forgetting when he had hesitated.
“Leave them be. Humans apparently have to say what they want to leave behind when it’s time to die.”
Statements from demonic beasts lacking empathy followed one after another.
Anyway, it was clear they didn’t care if these temple people lived or died.
In any case, it was time to depart.
Everyone finished a hearty breakfast, and the demonic beasts in particular took the Root of Rosetta to the point of showing addiction symptoms.
Helmut was the same. With incense burning around, they wouldn’t lose their minds easily.
If worst comes to worst, Levant would stab them with his holy sword or Levina would sear them with sacred magic to snap them out of it.
Both were willing to do so to the demonic beasts.
After full preparations, the party boarded the carriage again. Today, they would reach the central region.
The Forest of Roots wasn’t likely flat, but since Baharek went ahead clearing the path, it became flat naturally.
“This carriage, I wish it was for sale. It’s incredibly comfortable?”
Asuka tapped the carriage with his fingertips. The shape-shifting golem carriage.
But it wasn’t originally made as a means of transportation.
Yet it absorbed vibrations and shakes itself. It was comfortably tempting.
Alea replied indifferently.
“Only kings could ride it. The production cost is high.”
“It’s fine, I’m royalty.”
If he returns alive, Grand Duke Farnese would buy him this much.
Asuka confidently boasted his wealth. It seemed he had completely given up on claiming to be a commoner.
“This really isn’t the war I imagined.”
Unfamiliar with riding a carriage into enemy territory without much hardship, Luke Yeager stroked his chin.
Because they were so well-prepared, they could handle it smoothly. At least so far.
[Soon the central region. Prepare.]
Baharek, pulling the carriage, warned at some point. Everyone tensed up. Even though they had almost reached the central region, nothing was felt.
It was deathly quiet. Where had all those demonic beasts heading to the central region gone? Ominousness surged.
Unless soaring into the sky, the sacred barrier isn’t visible.
Also, there’s no guarantee that going by sky is safer than by land.
Those here were accustomed to fighting with their feet on the ground.
They would reach the center by land and confirm the entrance to the demon world. As decided, they steadily advanced.
