Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 483 (Part 1):
Around the same time, the demonic beasts began successfully climbing over the barrier one by one.
Their numbers were steadily increasing. The defensive line would soon be breached.
However, just as they bared their fangs toward the humans, a light flashed.
“Aria of Lightning!”
Boom!
With a deafening roar, several demonic beasts struck directly by the magic were sent flying.
“I’ll borrow your sword for a moment.”
Levant, having taken a sword from a fallen knight, charged straight at the demonic beasts.
Having recovered his strength in the meantime, he was a powerful holy knight even without the holy sword.
Levant’s sword, infused with holy power, mercilessly cut down the enemies.
“Sir Levant, you’ve returned!”
Leaving the priests’ delighted cries behind him.
“Nice timing?”
Asuka then leaped onto the barrier.
Crack!
The demonic beast with its wounds frozen solid fell straight down the barrier.
Luke Yeager, glancing around, charged at a demonic beast while shouting to the fallen knight.
“Are you a member of the Palma Knights? If you’re injured, fall back!”
“Yes, Commander!”
Sian stood below the barrier. As he extended his hand toward the ground, tree vines grew from the soil on the side of the Forest of Roots, wrapping around the damaged barrier and shaking off the climbing demonic beasts.
Alea’s hand, having unleashed attack magic, reached a mercenary who had collapsed with a hole in his abdomen.
The wound healed in an instant. The mercenary bowed his head in gratitude.
“I thought I was done for. Thank you.”
“You.”
Alea narrowed her eyes. It was a fairly famous mercenary who had fought Helmut in the tournament. His name was…
‘Horten.’
Horten let out a hearty laugh. Color returned to his ashen face.
“I came here on a commission from Renosa, and I thought my life would end here. Well, dying in battle suits a mercenary just fine.”
He had accepted the commission knowing it would be tough, but he had confidence in his own experience.
He never dreamed he’d be pushed to such a dire situation and barely survive.
Alea replied coolly.
“Since you survived, it means you’re meant to fight more. Fall back and recover.”
“Yes.”
Now, they had to defend this place. Alea looked toward the other side of the barrier.
Helmut was coming.
‘As soon as we get out, it starts again.’
And he arrived right in the midst of a crisis. Their role wouldn’t be complete until they finished guarding the barrier.
They could enjoy peaceful rest afterward.
Before long, Helmut soared over the barrier and landed beside her.
“Let’s end this quickly.”
Alea nodded at his words.
Having overcome all those hardships and finally returned, there was nothing to fear.
They were together. And they would be from now on.
A month after the sacred barrier disappeared, the demonic beasts’ attacks finally ceased.
Only after countless demonic beasts had perished did they recognize the barrier as an absolute something they couldn’t cross.
Whether this was a temporary lull or if they would surge again was unknown, but for now, it was a state of calm.
With that, the Second Demon King War came to an end, and the human world found stability.
Though the sacred barrier was gone, the lands of demonic beasts and humans were still divided by the barrier as the boundary.
The Forest of Roots remained an unknown land, and it would stay that way for a long time.
Regarding the barrier, an agreement was made for immediate dispatch of troops in emergencies. Each nation would send forces to guard the barrier.
And the heroes who returned alive from the Forest of Roots: Helmut, Alea, Sian, Asuka, Luke Yeager, Levant.
The names of the dead and the living were inscribed separately on the monument. As warriors who defeated the Demon King.
The sight of Archmage Heike’s name next to High Priest Levina’s was peculiar.
Igrelle’s whereabouts were unknown. She was simply believed to be alive somewhere in the Forest of Roots.
The same went for the other two rulers, Kantara and Baharek.
It had been a long and arduous battle. At its end, Helmut’s party scattered and returned to their respective places.
Whether they would face scrutiny in their homelands or be welcomed, their futures were uncertain, but they were heroes.
As heroes who saved the world, it was their turn to return with honor and move forward into their own lives.
As they each traced their paths ahead, surely, at some point, they would intersect once more.
Once, or perhaps more than that.
A new light was descending. A dazzling morning after passing through the pitch-black dawn.
