Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 80 (Part 1):
Sian, looking genuinely curious, asked Asuka, who had risen from the ground, “The mastermind? Do you have any suspicions about who it might be? You don’t have any close friends at the Academy, and it’s hard to figure out who among them might be responsible.”
“Shut up! Strawhead!”
Truth could be a painful thing. Asuka’s short temper flared at Sian, who had light brown hair.
“I think I might know who the client is,” Helmut spoke up.
“I’m not sure if he’ll confess willingly, but if you really want to be sure, taking him and using torture might be…”
As Darien had once told him, humans were easy to break in front of torture. When you tied them up, burned them with fire, ripped out their fingernails, or broke their arms and legs, most people would eventually spill the truth.
If he had been alone, he would have gladly done it, but unfortunately, Helmut wasn’t alone.
Surprisingly, Asuka, who had a reputation for being ruthless, was shocked and opposed the idea.
“Hey, you crazy guy! You’re saying that a student from the Greta Academy is… becoming like that…”
“Are you, who bit off someone’s ear and got expelled from the Military Academy, in any position to talk?”
Sian retorted as if he was amazed, but his face also turned red.
“He’s from a mercenary background, right? He’s on a whole different level in terms of what he’s thinking.”
It wasn’t enough to describe him as rough. He seemed like a guy who had rolled around in the war zone.
“Well, that doesn’t sound like a good idea. If you get caught, even if you attacked them, you’ll be expelled, and torturing someone is worse than killing them in self-defense.”
Rather than preaching morality, saying it like this seemed more appealing to Helmut.
As expected, Helmut nodded.
“Then let’s drop it. It could cause trouble if it comes to light.”
That was the only reason. Sian heaved a sigh of relief.
“Let’s hand them over to the soldiers. If we report it to the Academy as well, they’ll probably interrogate them.”
They handed over the Black Hawk gang, who were lying injured, to the soldiers.
Attacking Academy students in Baden was treated as a serious crime and would not be easily forgiven.
Sian used a simple healing spell on Asuka, who was covered in wounds.
“This isn’t my specialty, so go back and get proper treatment.”
Without a word of thanks, Asuka turned his head sharply. Sian chuckled and said, “Let’s go.”
They headed straight to the Academy’s administrative office. It was to report the attack incident.
Helmut and Sian had to attend as witnesses.
“Such a hassle.”
Sian seemed to be enjoying this unexpected turn of events, but Helmut, who had been thinking of going back to his training, was not pleased.
If he had known this would happen, he would have left them alone and gone back.
Upon hearing that Asuka had been attacked, the administrative office staff, realizing the seriousness of the situation, summoned the head of the Swordsmanship Department.
Alan, the instructor who happened to be present, listened to Sian’s account along with the administrative office staff.
Sian was explaining the situation because as a third party, he could convey the situation more objectively.
“So, who hired someone to attack Asuka? Is it true?”
“Yes, it’s true. The attackers were armed and specifically mentioned him as the target.”
As Sian testified, Alan, the instructor, countered calmly.
“The person who picked a fight might have pointed at Asuka, couldn’t it? You said you encountered Asuka while he was running away. The attackers were already chasing Asuka.”
He had to look at the situation as objectively as possible.
“No, they knew who I was! They approached with an ambush and provoked me! They were planning it from the beginning! There’s no way I could have escaped when I was caught up with just a few of them!”
If they had been ordinary opponents, they would have been turned into mincemeat. Alan was aware of Asuka’s skills.
He nodded.
“So, Asuka, who do you think targeted you among the second-year noble students in the Swordsmanship Department?”
Asuka replied irritably, “The noble guys from the Swordsmanship Department, of course!”
“Any suspicions?”
“Yes.”
Asuka listed the names of the suspected culprits. Alan’s forehead furrowed as he heard the names.
Discrimination against commoners within the Swordsmanship Department was a known issue. Patricia had shared this information, and it was a problem that couldn’t be ignored, especially with the added complication of violence against commoner students.
“I’ll have the guys I mentioned brought in for questioning immediately. I don’t think they directly hired someone. They probably did it through their families. If we press them, one of them is bound to confess.”
The psychology of nobles was predictable. When Asuka spat out his disdain, Alan lowered his head.
“For now, there’s no evidence that they did it.”
“Then, leave it alone!”
“No, we should question the captives to find out who the client is. Don’t worry. The investigation will be thorough. Even if we have to use magic to make them confess.
And if it turns out that Academy students were involved in this, they will be appropriately punished.”
Expulsion and even more severe penalties were possible. If a noble family was involved, the sanctions could be even more severe.
Helmut spoke with an expressionless face, “They’re from Black Hawk. They’re used to this kind of thing, so they won’t confess easily.”
“Black Hawk, hired by nobles for dirty jobs. Are you sure?”
“Yes. As sure as the client being a noble.”
“In fact, only nobles would hire someone to target others.”
Sian shrugged. The administrative office staff summarized the information they had testified to, and Alan, the instructor, said, “I’ll report this to my superiors. I’ll also discuss it with the instructors. You guys should go back for now. Asuka, get your wounds treated.”
It was already quite late. The Academy infirmary operated 24 hours a day, but emergency care was only available at night.
And emergency care had already been provided by Sian. Advising him to go to the infirmary would probably result in being told to wrap his injuries with bandages.
However, emergency care was not enough for his injuries.
“What about the injuries? you were cut deep on your side. I’ve tried to heal the surface a bit, but even a slight movement could make it worse.”
“I’ll just sleep, and it’ll get better when I wake up. So don’t worry!”
Sian clicked his tongue.
“You can’t do that, you’re not a monster. Are you stupid?”
“This is…!”
