Helmut: The Forsaken Child - H.F.C Chapter 95 (Part 1):
*Midterm Exam*
Erun and his two friends finished their studies and returned, but they were exhausted, while Sabbat and Jerome had left the academy.
They could transfer to another academy, but they would never set foot in Greta Academy again.
Asuka still followed Helmut around, but he was no longer the helpless accident waiting to happen.
Helmut unintentionally grabbed Asuka’s leash, and Asuka, who was leashed, became as tame as a wild dog turned into a domestic dog.
His habit of not being able to speak without swearing improved, and he had tamed his temper. Sian’s influence must have played a part in it too.
On holidays, the three often went around together. Only Alea never joined.
Helmut also integrated quite naturally into the swordsmanship department.
Anyway, there were no incidents that would make him write a reflection after that day. Helmut was no longer a superficial presence in the swordsmanship department, but a skilled and diligent individual with a likable appearance and seriousness and sincerity to the sword.
In the swordsmanship department, the most important thing was one’s skill.
Furthermore, he had changed Asuka. The reason the second-year swordsmanship department students, who had been tormented by the crazy dog, had to like Helmut.
Of course, Asuka still occasionally hindered Helmut’s progress in the swordsmanship department.
But thanks to him, Helmut could be evaluated as ‘a guy with a better personality than you’d think, unlike Asuka.’
Even Asuka himself had improved to the point where he could converse with the swordsmanship department students, a significant development.
Since entering the academy, the first exam Helmut was about to face was the midterm exam, which was approaching.
‘Has time passed so quickly?’ Helmut suddenly realized.
His time at the academy was passing swiftly.
After focusing more on training, Helmut was holed up in the training grounds almost all the time, except on holidays.
His fellow swordsmanship department students often came out to the public training grounds to spar, but he didn’t respond.
Alan, the instructor, didn’t interfere with dueling outside of class hours, but dueling itself didn’t help Helmut much.
Instead, it seemed that Asuka was participating in duels. This had a positive impact on the improvement of the second-year swordsmanship department students’ skills.
“Is that a sword you’re holding? Seriously? Not a joke?”
“I’m curious, how did you get into the academy? Seriously, if I were an instructor, I wouldn’t pick you, even if you paid me.”
“Are you injured or something? How can you be so slow if your leg isn’t broken?”
Facing Asuka’s disdain and harsh words, they became even more focused on training.
Perhaps Asuka had developed a taste for tormenting his fellow students under the guise of dueling, but he never challenged Helmut to a duel.
Perhaps he knew he would lose anyway.
“Hey there!”
Sian waved to Helmut as he returned from class.
While Alea often arrived later than Helmut, Sian always returned to the dormitory earlier.
Helmut couldn’t figure out how he did it. Sian had some mysterious tricks up his sleeve.
‘Is it because he’s a spirit magician?’
“Are the midterm exams coming up soon?” Sian casually asked.
“Yeah.”
“It’s your first exam, are you confident?”
“Is there a reason not to be?”
Helmut has secured first place in the practical exam, which accounts for most of the score.
The written exam is thoroughly reviewed to a level that is not difficult compared to the transfer exam. There seemed to be no issues.
“You mischievous boy. but, I’m worried. You’ve been playing too much this semester.”
Sian, who was friendly with everyone but not particularly close to anyone, voiced his concern.
So he didn’t have much to hang out with, but he got interested in Helmut in front of him, who played hard all semester.
Sian thought he wasn’t very greedy. Alea took care of the top, and he just had to take the second place.
But this time, it seemed difficult to maintain that second spot.
Greta Academy, where only the elite gathered. Among the swordsmanship department, magic department, and academic department, the reputation of the magic department was the highest. Because the dean is a mage.
Other students spend the night in the lab or library as a daily routine, but Sian has hardly been to the library since this semester.
With his ability to control light spirits, his practical exam score would likely be high due to his specialization in spirit magic, but the written exam was the issue.
Helmut pointed out sharply, “You’re worried, but you’re still playing right now.”
“…Is that how you’re going to put it? Our departments are different, and we don’t even have any general education courses together, so we only see each other on occasions like this. You should remind me so I don’t forget.”
“My memory isn’t that bad. If you’re worried about your grades, you should study.”
Helmut responded coldly and without any warmth or empathy.
“Why did you play too? Why am I the only one feeling pressure about grades? This doesn’t seem fair.”
“You had holidays, and I only played on holidays.”
Sian grumbled in the end, his face sulking in response to the truth that hit him like a hailstorm.
“Seriously, you’re too much. Is your future hope to be a drill instructor?”
“I’m leaving now.”
Helmut turned his back on Sian. He knew half of it was a whine. As far as Helmut knew, Sian was smarter than he thought.
