Swoooosh——

It was a rainy day.

Choi Lee Hyun, stepping out from the bachelor barracks, lightly wiped the rain-spattered combat boots and entered the base.

Just then, soldiers passing nearby saluted him.

“Sir!”

“Yes, Sir.”

Lee Hyun passed by after returning their salutes.

“…Hehe.”

A small laugh rang out.

Sharp— as if stabbing into Lee Hyun’s back.

He froze for a moment—

But he didn’t turn back or call the soldiers over.

Because he knew—disciplining those soldiers wouldn’t solve anything.

‘Two-shot wonder.’

That humiliating nickname, a symbol of the military’s closed nature, was his.

Even Lee Hyun couldn’t deny it.

He wasn’t a Hunter, but an Awakened.

Not the kind of Hunter who levels up and grows, but one who only had access to a few system functions: using mana and low-level physical enhancement—no potential for growth.

Even among Awakened, his natural mana capacity was pathetically low.

Firing his mana stone rifle just twice would push him to the brink of unconsciousness.

What nickname could better describe him?

On his way to the admin office, Lee Hyun passed more soldiers and officers.

Each time, sneers—subtle or obvious—stabbed at him.

Still, Lee Hyun greeted them with a bright voice and tossed light jokes.

That was his way of dealing with them.

Creak—

He opened the old door and stepped into the admin office, where Major Junghwan, Captain Seokjun, and Sergeant Major Donghyeon of the ‘Blue Dragon Special Forces Battalion’ were talking.

Nowadays, even special forces units were primarily tasked with large monster combat.

They operated with enhanced personnel compared to the past, so there were more soldiers.

“So anyway—”

“You’ve arrived?”

Lee Hyun greeted the major with a cheerful tone.

“Ah, Choi Lee Hyun’s here.”

But the moment Lee Hyun entered, the conversation came to an awkward halt.

The major, captain, and sergeant major all stared straight at him.

It was rare for both the major and sergeant major to be at the company’s admin office.

“Is something going on?”

Lee Hyun asked.

Junghwan shook his head.

“No, no. Nothing special. You know we’re going shooting tomorrow, right?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Right. Our battalion—no, the whole command ranks first. Naturally. Even the brigade will come to watch. But I hear it’s going to rain?”

“No problem! I’ll nail bullseyes all day!”

Lee Hyun replied confidently with a nod.

Raindrops were no obstacle to him.

As long as he pulled the trigger, he hit his mark.

Junghwan smirked and patted Lee Hyun’s shoulder.

Then, as if to confirm something, he asked:

“Good. So… you’ll be using a regular rifle again tomorrow?”

“…Yes.”

Lee Hyun nodded, his expression slightly stiffening.

Since the Gates opened, special forces snipers—Awakened—mostly used their personal-bound mana stone rifles.

Lee Hyun used one too, of course.

However, since he depleted all his mana after just two shots, he used a regular rifle in training.

“Got it. Captain, I’m heading out.”

“Yes, sir!”

Seokjun and Lee Hyun saluted as Junghwan left, who waved briefly and shut the door.

As Seokjun sat back down, his expression was awkward.

Trying to break the tension, Seokjun spoke.

“So… any signs of improving past two shots?”

“Oh, come on, Captain. Hasn’t changed in five years, has it?”

“…True.”

Why even ask such a pointless question?

Lee Hyun couldn’t bring himself to ask.

Bang—! Bang—!

At the battalion shooting range.

One soldier from each platoon—12 total—plus Lee Hyun, the battalion’s direct sniper: 13 in all.

It was Lee Hyun’s turn to shoot.

Target distance: approximately 600 to 800 meters.

Randomly rising targets at the farthest training range—barely used by other snipers.

Lee Hyun had no spotter, so he had to locate targets by eye before firing.

It wasn’t much of a problem.

The targets were shaped like monsters—easy to spot even at a glance.

In the control tower, Major Junghwan and the Brigade Personnel Officer observed Lee Hyun’s shooting results through binoculars.

The personnel officer, notorious for being strict, was left speechless.

“This is just… unbelievable. No spotter, even.”

Junghwan’s expression was stiff.

“I told you. He’s insanely good with a gun. I’ve never seen a guy like that in 20 years of service.”

“I can accept that he’s hitting those targets at such distance in the rain. But how are the monster targets going down? With a regular rifle?”

The officer was most curious about how the monster targets—designed to only fall from lethal force—were being knocked over.

Unlike standard targets, which fell if hit, the monster types needed power equal to killing a real monster.

If another sniper used a regular rifle, they wouldn’t drop even at half this distance…

“They’re made pretty realistic, right? If you shoot them in the eyes, they go down.”

“…Excuse me?”

The officer looked like he’d just heard a bizarre joke.

Shoot the eyes, and they fall?

That meant Lee Hyun had hit every target in the eye.

Was that even possible?

But even as this miracle unfolded, nearby snipers sneered.

“Heh. Two-shot freak’s trying hard, huh?”

“Does he think he’ll get reassigned back to the field doing that?”

“If he had any shame, he’d leave already.”

“Forget it. He’s done for anyway…”

Even lower-ranked spotters were openly mocking him.

Though it rained, their voices were clear enough for Lee Hyun to hear.

The officer frowned.

“What’s with them?”

“Let it go. They know too well how things work around here.”

“…”

The officer had no reply.

After all, he and Junghwan were directly involved in the thing “they know.”

“It’s a shame. If not for that incident…”

“Yeah. And it wasn’t even his fault.”

Bang—!

The sound of a rain-soaked shot rang out, and another monster target dropped cleanly.

Junghwan briefly lifted his eyes from the scope and looked at Lee Hyun.

Then he added quietly.

“No, maybe you can’t say it wasn’t his fault at all.”

A cursed mana capacity that only allowed two shots.

To be born with such a body, despite possessing this level of skill, was a kind of misfortune.

It happened a year ago.

Lee Hyun’s unit, 2nd Platoon of 1st Company, was dispatched to respond to an emergency Gate opening at the Tower With an Open Door.

Originally, 1st Platoon should’ve gone.

But the 1st Platoon leader broke his leg playing soccer the day before.

Junghwan still remembered the conversation as he sent 2nd Platoon out.

“Hey, can you manage with just two shots?”

“Heh, sir. Isn’t it enough if I kill with those two shots? I’ll bring everyone back safely, so don’t worry.”

It wasn’t impossible.

The advance recon team reported a single D-rank threat: an Armored Orc.

If hit properly, the team would’ve returned safely.

But that day, the 2nd Platoon was annihilated.

Only Lee Hyun, sniping from the rear, survived.

Bang—!

He shot an Armored Orc through the eye with one clean shot. The operation seemed to go smoothly.

Then another one appeared.

Bang—!

He killed that one too.

With no mana left, Lee Hyun had to be dragged from the front lines by the support unit.

He could do no more.
