I Got A Legendary Sniper Rifle - GLSR Chapter 2 (Part 2)
And he’d already prepared the answer.
“Well… I spoke with my parents yesterday.”
“And?”
“I explained the situation in the unit, and they told me to just come home. Said I should help out with Dad’s shop.”
“Hmm.”
Junghwan nodded.
He had heard that Lee Hyun’s parents ran a small neighborhood store.
It was a common post-discharge path.
Still, Junghwan, a former ROTC officer who had risen to battalion commander in special forces, had a gut feeling.
This kid—he’s hiding something.
“You didn’t reawaken, did you?”
“……”
A probing question—and yet Lee Hyun’s expression remained completely calm.
Of course, his mind was anything but.
‘Damn. This guy didn’t become a Lieutenant Colonel for nothing.’
Junghwan knew everything that happened in the battalion like the back of his hand.
Even when everyone else tried desperately to hide secrets, they always somehow slipped under his radar.
How did he even consider reawakening in a situation like this?
Wasn’t it the rifle that awakened?
But Lee Hyun knew what kind of man Junghwan was, so he just laughed it off naturally.
“Ha ha ha, no way. How would I live four years as a half-baked Awakened, then suddenly reawaken the day I’m told to discharge? What am I, the protagonist of a novel?”
To be honest, Junghwan still suspected something, but it did sound far-fetched.
It had only been one day.
What were the odds of reawakening in that span?
Even so, Junghwan said:
“Go to the infirmary.”
“…I’m sorry, what?”
Lee Hyun tilted his head like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
The battalion infirmary had a basic mana measurement device.
Not especially accurate, but enough to tell if someone had reawakened.
And Lee Hyun had always had very low mana to begin with.
Junghwan repeated:
“Come on. If there’s nothing to hide, get tested. Coincidentally, a directive came from HQ last week. Seems there are officers hiding their Awakening and then becoming Hunters after discharge, so now they’re enforcing final physicals before release.”
‘You’ve got to be kidding me…’
When did that kind of notice even come down?
Lee Hyun clicked his tongue at the army’s cruelty.
If you awakened with levels, you were exempt from military service—but if it happened during service, your term was automatically extended five more years and you were reassigned to a Hunter unit.
That’s why everyone said: if you’re going to awaken, don’t do it in the military.
In other words, if they found out Lee Hyun had reawakened—five more years of service.
It was a merciless sentence for someone who had just resolved to leave.
But Lee Hyun…
“Yes, I’ll take the test.”
He rose confidently from his seat.
His attitude said clearly: I’ve got nothing to hide—go ahead and try.
“Hmph.”
Junghwan, a little surprised at Lee Hyun’s unexpected boldness, tilted his head, but then headed to the infirmary first.
Bzzz—
The test was over in an instant.
Just stand on a rod-like scanner, and it would scan.
The military doctor gave Junghwan the results.
“Same as before. Just enough to fire a mana rifle twice, then it’s over.”
The doctor, who usually mocked Lee Hyun as well, spoke in a condescending tone.
Normally, that would’ve stung—but Lee Hyun smiled genuinely.
“Thank you for confirming, sir.”
“Huh?”
The doctor looked slightly flustered by Lee Hyun’s unfamiliar demeanor.
‘He must have finally snapped now that he’s getting discharged.’
Well, maybe he was just at peace with it.
Of course, the real reason Lee Hyun smiled was different.
‘Test me a hundred times—nothing will show. My mana hasn’t changed.’
Because it wasn’t Lee Hyun who awakened—it was his rifle.
He had briefly wondered if the system link might include the rifle’s mana, but apparently not.
Which is why he hadn’t even distributed the stat points yet—just in case.
In any case, everything moved quickly after that.
Junghwan contacted personnel, and the discharge certificate was issued.
“You did well.”
Junghwan patted Lee Hyun’s shoulder as if he genuinely meant it.
But Lee Hyun thought differently.
‘Yeah, sure. Everything was already prepared in advance.’
If Junghwan had truly cared, he wouldn’t have let NCOs—or even enlisted soldiers—badmouth him openly.
How could he know everything else in the battalion but pretend not to know about that?
He must’ve wanted Lee Hyun gone too.
And so, Lee Hyun gave them exactly what they wanted.
“You heading out today? Or tomorrow?”
At Junghwan’s question, Lee Hyun answered right away.
“It’s decided, so I’ll leave today.”
“Alright. Good job.”
“Yes, sir!”
“I have business at brigade today, so I can’t see you off. Sorry about that.”
“No problem! Thank you for everything!”
“Yeah, okay. You know you’re still military personnel until the end of the day, right? Be careful.”
“Ha ha, I’m not some new recruit. I won’t mess up like that.”
With a firm voice, Lee Hyun left the commander’s office.
Even as he walked out, Junghwan still had a puzzled look.
He couldn’t even imagine.
Who would ever believe that a gun had awakened, not a person?
At most, he probably just thought that running his dad’s shop was better than a soldier’s pay.
Back at the dorm, Lee Hyun packed his rifle and belongings.
Not that there was much.
Just a few clothes and random things.
He hadn’t really been “living” for the past year anyway, so it made sense.
Just as he stepped out of the barracks, a group of NCOs he knew came laughing toward him.
“Did you hear? Two-shot freak’s finally leaving.”
“Ugh, it’s about time. Major must’ve made a tough call.”
“Apparently even the major was kinda hoping for it.”
“…Hey, look.”
They spotted Lee Hyun and cleared their throats awkwardly.
One of them—Staff Sergeant Park Geonwoo—raised his voice openly.
“Hey! He’s not even a soldier anymore—why so quiet? Say goodbye! See ya~!”
He waved mockingly.
Geonwoo had been in the same class as Lee Hyun, but ever since he’d been passed up for promotion—probably blaming Lee Hyun’s shooting skills—he’d openly shunned him.
‘This isn’t even how promotions work in special forces, you idiot.’
Did he not know, or just didn’t care?
Normally, Lee Hyun would’ve smiled and walked on.
But not this time.
Step— Step—
He walked straight up to Geonwoo.
Then leaned his face in right in front of his.
Geonwoo, a full 10cm shorter, flinched backward in surprise.
“W-what, are you insane?”
“Whoa?!”
The nearby NCOs tensed, wondering if a fight would break out.
They were both technically Awakened, even if only half-baked—and both had special forces training.
Once punches flew, it wouldn’t end nicely.
A moment of high tension.
But then, after staring silently at Geonwoo for a while, Lee Hyun smirked.
“Yeah. Take care, you punk.”
“W-what?”
Lee Hyun’s smile deepened.
Not worth exchanging another word.
They were trash he’d never see again.
