- M.L.E Chapter 50: Real-World (Part2)
Amidst Pessius’ voice, the enthusiastic cheers of several people echoed. Led by the three massive Sky Fortresses and sixty Vanguard units on hoverboards, they advanced toward a city with a population of 500,000 where the lordly castle of the Viscount Parma is located.
“Are you not going back? There won’t be any time to relax, you know?”
“Ugh.”
In response to the clear command, Parma’s representatives suppressed their complaints and boarded the floating train that had been prepared.
I reached out my hand to Arcia, who was sitting beside me as if inviting her to dance.
“From now on, Arcia and I will be directly on the front lines. I’ll leave the command to Lord Pessius for the time being.”
“What? Your Excellency? What’s going on?”
“Let’s go, Arcia.”
“Yes!”
“Your Excellency!”
I was carrying a gorgeous white robe with the Vanguard Force Armor function and a magic staff with the Force Sword function.
Arcia was armed with dark-colored power armor with a classic design and a dark power sword as we left the command center.
[Vanguard units! His Excellency the Marquis Lawrence and His Excellency Countess Klein are participating in the war in person! Protect them!]
“Yes!”
Despite the urgency in Pessius’s communication, the Vanguard units responded with a resounding cheer, whether they were perplexed or not. Arcia and I increased the pace, leading the units from the front.
“Hehe!”
Someone chuckled.
They said that seeking revenge only left emptiness, and it ultimately led to more vengeance.
But I don’t think that way.
‘Because there’s nothing that provides a clearer sense of purpose than revenge.’
Starting with Anna and Cedric, all the way to the Academy’s villains.
The eradication of their existence could be considered the starting point for a new future.
And most importantly…
“Isn’t it fun to watch your enemies twist their faces in agony and scream?”
Flying through the air with fierce wind magic, I wore an immensely joyful smile and cast the Seventh Circle’s grand magic.
—
Inside a chamber within Parma’s stronghold.
“You better have low expectations. I’ll torment you in the most horrific ways possible. I’LL MAKE YOU REGRET BEING BORN INTO THIS WORLD.”
Prince Viscount Parma, who was being watched by knights like a prison, chewed his fingernails, recalling the line Adrian had uttered in the past like a curse.
Back then, he had dismissed those words as insignificant and had even laughed them off.
But now, those words cut deeper into his chest than any dagger.
-Thud!
Prince Parma poured a glass of whiskey on the table and gulped it down before slamming the glass down roughly.
“Damn it, damn it.”
During his Academy days, he had never felt any remorse for beating or tormenting his fellow students. That was because this world was a strictly hierarchical society, and he had merely instilled discipline into those below him.
However, he never anticipated that the actions of his past would grow like a snowball, eventually coming back to haunt him.
No, it’s natural not to expect such a thing.
In this caste society, there had never been a case where someone from the oppressed class suddenly rose to the highest ruling class.
“Adrian, that bastard is the abnormal one!”
He thought this was a story even more absurd than any melodrama.
Prince Parma turned to one of the high knights assigned to monitor him and asked, “What are the chances of winning this war?”
The high-ranking knight responsible for surveillance clicked his tongue and replied briefly, “Honestly, it’s tough. Just the military forces demonstrating in front of the territory are more than double our numbers, and they even have an Archmage and an Aura Master waiting. Honestly, we can’t win this battle.”
Initially, when Adrian had applied for the territorial war, Prince Parma didn’t consider it a significant problem. However, with Adrian’s actions, which scoffed at his judgment and mobilized a massive army, Prince Parma’s actions of gnawing on his fingernails became even more agitated.
“What happens to me if we lose the war?”
Currently, no one within Viscount Parma feels sorry for his situation. Due to the wrongdoings of Prince Parma in the past, only the unfortunate civilians, soldiers, and knights were dying. No one felt sorry for him.
Seeing him reaching for the bottle again, the high-ranking knight seemed to be unable to bear it any longer, and spoke coldly to the prince in an irreverent manner that had never been seen before.
“You still only think about yourself even in this situation.”
Prince Parma protested, perhaps out of pride in the situation, but before the high-ranking knight, who now seemed like he might draw his sword at any moment, he couldn’t muster the courage to get angry.
“May I tell you what you should do in this situation, young master?”
“Is there something…?”
“You should personally offer yourself to Marquis Lawrence. If you help him achieve revenge, even a little, his anger might be alleviated, right? Then the damage to our territory might be reduced.”
To this statement, Prince Parma widened his eyes in disbelief.
“How could you, of all people, suggest this to your lord’s son?”
“Everyone in the castle probably thinks the same too. You were the one who used to indulge in wickedness, so nobody understands why we are on the verge of death now. When those below us die, they will blame you, not Lord Lawrence.”
“Uh…”
“Have more than ten people, innocent of any direct or indirect wrongdoing, died by your hand? In the end, I’ve finally found out what ‘YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW’ means. THANK YOU SO FCKING MUCH FOR THE LESSON.”
With the high knight’s statement and the agreement of the surrounding knights, Prince Parma finally realized his position.
He couldn’t simply blame it on bad luck, as their reactions were too hostile.
“I reap what I sow? I’m part of the ruling class! What the hell is the problem!?”
As if answering Parma’s lament, the head of the household’s chief knight, who had opened the door and entered, placed something in front of him.
“Knight commander?”
“These are Vanguard equipment, the Force Armor, and the Force Sword. You know how to handle Aura, right?”
“But why?”
“Wear these and request a duel with Marquis Lawrence.”
“Wa-What?”
“It’s Viscount’s order.”
“Father…? But…”
At the words of the knight commander, Prince Parma realized that he had been abandoned.
“B-But the royal family hasn’t given permission for the territorial war yet, right? They might still prevent it, right? Besides, this is unreasonable. It’s an absurd pretext, isn’t it? Why go this far…?”
“We’ve just received acceptance for the territorial war from the royal family. Soon, the territory will turn into a battlefield.”
At the news that the territorial war had begun, Prince Parma, as well as the knights guarding the room, were left stunned.
“There isn’t much time. Come on, quickly.”
“Holy shit! Damn it! Why are you doing this to me!”
Under pressure from the knight commander, Prince Parma eventually refused, spewing out all kinds of abusive language, and the knights captured him and forcibly filled him with equipment.
